I like the dirty yellow, but the model as a whole could use some contrast. With some blacklining, it'd look great.

Without some contrast it looks a bit like it was just an old mini left for dead on a high shelf for a few years

Love the yellow, but also, I need contrast.

Honestly, it looks more like a rock statue with red paint on sections.

It is a neat rock effect, though.

I don't think the OP is suggesting the model is done.

It looks like the detailing/highlighting is still to come. He is specifically asking about the look of the weathering/grime on the yellow sections of armour.

Personally i like things to look like a "lived in universe". What are your plans for basing?

Um whats wrong with your model? theres no skull on the wings and wheres his breather grill? I think your in need of a better quality model ive never seen such shoddy work on a space marine before none of its your fault but I think you got a fake set o space marines or your working with a beginner kit sorry im not trying to flame you im just pointing out what i see wrong

The marine looks like it is one of the push-fit ones from AoBR set. They dont have alot of details as they all have boltgun arms which cover the chest.

Admittedlty they're nto great models but they are cheap on ebay and perfect for testign paint schemes or fillign out squads.

Anyway, i like the yellow. I've never painted it mysefl btu have read in many places that it is one of the hardest colours to do well. Once the highlighting/detaisl in finished it will look really good.

As for the basing, i woudl humbly suggest some sort of urban or wreckage theme to tie in the dirt/grime element of the scheme.

Cheers for the responses guys.

As Praxiss said it is one of the snap-together AoBR marines, they certainly aren't great but I am just using it to play around with colour schemes.

The model is no where near done, like CT Gamer said, I was just looking for feedback on the weathering!

Basing would definitely be 'urban' style, starting with a dark grey and drybrushing up to white.

Cheers again.

Once some lining and boltgun is applied it should look good from 3 feet.

Intresting orkyben, keep us updated as you go
The granulation however is a bit odd ,not sure thats an effect of the weathering or orginal basepaint ?

A decent basing job will also help the contrast, but as a bajillion other people said, blacklining would help. I've never done it myself, so I have no advice to offer there.

Looks cool, very good for yellow. I agree on blacklining, and if you don't already know about them, I suggest a micron pen, they do wonders.

I like dirty marines. They look better then fresh from the factory look IMO. I bet if you based it, it will take away from the YELLOW!!! MY EYES!!! look a bit. Bases tone down minis and help bring them all together. Give it a try and see how it works.

I royally cocked it up with the highlighting so the poor chap is currently spending the night in a jar of Dettol.

I'm going to give it another go, perhaps with slightly less grime in a few days.

Have you thought about making him dirtier around armour section edges? (like some of the panels on his leg or around joints, tubing or vents)
