It just wouldn’t be leaning forward if not on the scenery piece.
But would work I suppose..

Well colour me excited about Delaque. I really want to see the sprue to see what kind of fiddling can be done to bash/convert the new ones.

The worm & brain are fething dope tho!

If you have it handy, I'd highly suggest the lamp from this or the old Cities of Death scenery kits instead:

I hate those flight stands too. I used the Shardwrack Spines for my Akhelian Eels and some assorted elfy ruins from kits for my sharks. Still getting the lamps set up for my Orlock Wreckers.

Me in 2018/19: Those Delaques don't look like Delaques.
GW in 2021: Hold this beer.

Dunno that I needed a Dark City/Dune/Matrix mashup. Actually, I know I don't.

And they still desperately need to work out how to add debris, flying bases, tactical rocks and irregular shapes to Necromunda bases. They consistently look like unfinished garbage, every time.

Efficiency is the highest virtue.

Bit of 1.5-2mm brass rod does the trick for me, looks much nicer too imo (remind me of some nice 18th century wire used to mount a preserved insect specimen or articulated skeleton)

Why do they need so many books for Necromunda. I tried keeping up with all the Gang wars book, then got the Gangs book. Necromunda Dark Uprising kinda killed it for me at $290 for a box set that was beyond my breaking point.

I have some hope for the new Hive War box set depending on price. But then seeing these house books on top of the gang books is just so much redunancy just to field an extra unit or so?

GW just is in love with all their stupid codexes and books.

So is one of the things in this box prospects? Is the floaty thing a brute? What'd they actually talk about on the stream?

From the article, the melee guys are the champions, the jumping one with extra arms and the one holding the snake are prospects, and I’m not really sure where the beasties fit - it says ‘they’re accompanied by’ after the prospects but I dunno if that means them specifically or the gang in general.

I think they’re sweet though, probably my favourite of the expansions to the 6 gangs.

I like the one with the sword, and the flying brain thing. Both of those save this kit IMO, I am not fond of that one with its arms flailing as it's up on that debris, that one is some peak level derpyness. At least they're a step up from the Van Saar surfers.

Yeah, I really like these, possibly the strongest of the second wave reinforcements IMO. Way better than the green goblins and jump pack Orlocks, definitely.

I liked the old Delaques back in the day, but come on, it's not 1995 anymore - plain bald guys in trenchcoats does not work in 2021. GW needed to dial the designs up quite a lot and I think they hit the spot - these models are great.

The Delaques in 1995 looked futuristic, an actual dystopian future. While I certainly liked the models, once The Matrix came afterwards it seriously dated them to the 90s. I like that these new ones take inspiration from The Matrix but push it in a more creepy direction. They’re back looking like the future to me. The old Delaques would look good as minis for a Judge Dredd game but I think they’re out of place in the 41st millennium.

Wow.

I was kind of hoping the Delaque second box would look more "old school" to the them to the 90's minis, but no, they went completely the opposite way. These are just weird.

I'm honestly not sure if I like them or not.

I do like them, but then I’ve embraced the reinvented look for the Delaque. They’ve managed to make them look pretty sinister overall, and they’re my choice for campaigns.

But the criticism of them is entirely valid. The five other gangs got modernised, with only the Van Saar really deviating (armour plates instead of a Still Suit). They look great, but for sad old grognards, we can still use our original gangs. Sure the older models will be noticeable, but not due to the design cues.

Delaque? They were a pretty significant departure, and one can’t really mix the old with the new as effectively. They’ve also, from memory, had the biggest overhaul in their fluff, with the confirmation they have psykers (both born and created), and strong hints that perhaps they’re not actually human.

It’s a cool background - but enough of a shift that long time Delaque players might feel short changed.

Exalted for truth.

Though to be honest, some people are still stuck in the 90s and everything that comes afterwards looks like the future to them. Even if it's actually the present.

True as well.

I'm actually curious about what will be revealed in the background of House of Shadows. It's clear we won't have all the answers, but I hope to get at least something about the weird rumors of dead people or people from other houses suddenly looking similar in some Delaque's faces.

Yeah, a sprue of "Scum" in trenchcoats with goggles who happen to have a few snake emblems here and there and a line about "These aren't Delaque. Honest. Because you can trust house Delaque WINK" would probably go a long way.

Along with a reason for anyone else to take Scummers. If you go Narco Lords, you never know what they're carrying inside those trenchcoats.

I always loved Delaque as a gang but never liked the original models. They didn't embody the thin/pale/whispery-vibe described in the fluff IMO.

So I'm happy with the redesign, and very pleased to see a champ waving a psudo-katana.

For a more old-skool vibe, Heresy Miniatures has some fantastic trenchcoat gangers. Sadly the scale is a bit off compared to the newer stuff, but the actual models are fantastic.
(And of all the Houses Delaque can probably most easily get away with being skinny and slight of build)

Why?

And nice [current year] argument there.

Because of two main reasons - one, miniature design and production technology have evolved quite a bit and by going to plastic it is now possible to create more layers of detail and options to models. Now, because of the existing constraints (one small sprue per gang) the full design space has not yet been explored and I see that some people have problems accepting this, but here we are. Consumers expect more detail and more complexity in the sculpt (if nothing else, to justify the price increase!)

Two, and more importantly, popular culture has also developed quite a lot since the mid 90's, and in general, concepts require more depth and more different levels of content than was required in the 90's. The audience expect more than just "cool guy in trenchcoat with a shotgun" (which incidentally is the entire plot of a whole bunch of 90's action movies), plus like a single paragraph of background text.

So, more background/lore that describe multiple concepts mixed together into a more complex character is matched by a more (conceptually) advanced sculpt, incorporating more ideas than just "bald guy in a trenchcoat". Visual design cues that reference multiple movies/books, plus more overt weird/psyker/alien elements to match this.

In this thread there are LOTS of posts basically saying "these new miniatures are not exactly like my old miniatures, therefore they are gak". What I'm trying to say is that, sure your old miniatures may have been great in 1995, but sorry they just wouldn't be that great if they were released in 2021. Nostalgia is a powerful drug. The world has moved on, maybe you should too?

But that's not the argument. Nobody's seems to be saying that these models are bad, just that they're not to their taste, while the old models were. Taste is completely independent of available production technology or current pop culture.

Denny - good link to those miniatures. Old-skool Delaque weren't very much to my taste, but those are a close representation.

Well H.B.M.C called them "Hideous" and I tried to show why the new Delaques don't look like the old ones.

And this is why people shouldn't expect the new ones to be like the old ones. Sure, taste is one thing, but expecting GW to cater to your personal taste (which is based on an old 90's design) surely leads to disappointment eventually.

GW couldn't really produce anything too similar to the old ones again, because culture and expectations have changed.

So, like if they would re-release the RTB01 beakie marine kit again many old grognards would maybe buy one because of the nostalgia, but it would be a pretty tough sell when it comes to recruiting new kids to pick up the hobby, they expect something along the lines of tacticool primaris marines instead. Culture and expectations have changed.

GW had no problem producing "same design, but modern quality" for 4 of the other gangs, with really just Cawdor also getting a noticeable aesthetic shift. You can bend over backwards to justify it all you want but really you're just doing unpaid marketing spin work for a corporation, you're not presenting any sort of logical argument or factual information.

And there comes the apologist strawman.

Where are the logical arguments or factual information in your post?

All I've seen is personal opinion with a hint of entitlement.

"They've done it this way for gangs A, B,C and D, therefore they could have done it for gang E" is a logical argument. You making up random gak about culture shifts is not.

I don’t think people are saying they couldn’t have done it for Delaque for the most part. And whether they should have is just a personal aesthetic choice.
