I'm sure everyone's aware of the Firewalker Pack coming out on the 23rd (it's the 23rd here and I can't get it yet, dammit!), including the Hammerhead tank and 5 new missions (free for all Cerberus Network members), but we've also got something else due tomorrow; new appearances for Garrus, Thane and Jack. I think they're groovy. The goggles, they do nothing! And there's a new character due in early April: Kasumi Goto, the Master Thief. Source for everything

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made. |

Wait, the new outfits are 160 MS points for the lot. I think Kasumi is 580 MS points or something around that.

I had to keep downloading all the DLC for the first game so my wife could have 100% completion on it. Don't really want to do the same for ME2 to be honest (running low of cash ), but I do like free content, and I am happy to get free missions.
So long as the only stuff you have to pay for will be new outfits and cosmetic stuff, I am happy (not read the link as I can't access it at work, so not sure what we will be getting for free and what you will have to pay for, as well as the nature of extra content etc ).

I won't pay for the new outfits just because they're extraneous...Kasumi will be added to my HDD the day it comes out.
Have downloaded Firewalker, haven't had a chance to play it yet due to blogging...but I'm looking forward to it. I can already tell, though, that DLC post-story-completion is going to feel disjointed and wierd. I think it would be an interesting experiment if Bioware created some DLC that was specifically designed to keep the adventure going AFTER the main story line had ended.
Mass Effect 1 DLC was disjointed in the same way...I had to go back to old save files pre-story-completion to actually play it. At least now I can use post-completion files for Mass Effect 2...and I've only beaten it with one file so far...

It actually fits in just fine. There's not nearly enough new dialogue and I'd like additional Hammerhead missions in the future, but the current ones are fun and challenging. This tank is really fragile.

This bugged me about the Tali romance. There was all the suspense building up over her mask finally being removed, and then the camera faces the back of her head.

The same thing happens in Halo: Combat Evolved. People used dev tools to move the camera in the ending cutscene and behold! He wears two helmets!

I finally got a chance to start playing the Firewalker DLC last night...and was bored very quickly.
It adds nothing to the story, there's no new dialogue, it very much feels like something that was meant to be in the full game but they didn't finish in time...
It actually has me thinking a lot about DLC and what DLC should and shouldn't be. Kasumi's Stolen Memory also looks like something that should have shipped at retail.
My character file that already completed the story is who I started Firewalker with, and this content felt totally disjointed. I'm probably not going to bother playing the content with her, I might just use it for my second, Paragon character so the content gets integrated into the whole experience...but even then I suspect it's going to feel like a standalone as it has absolutely nothing to do with the story. Kasumi's Stolen Memory hopefully WILL be integrated into the story.
At this point I feel that DLC should never, ever be placed within the main storyline. If you're going to release DLC after the fact, then make it an entirely new adventure which is meant to take place after the main storyline has been completed. Had they done this with Firewalker, recorded some new dialogue, breathed some real life into it, then releasing as late as they did might make some sense.
Most people I know have already beaten Mass Effect 2 and put it aside for newer games.

I think Firewalker was more of a "Test Run" to get people used to controlling the tank and finding feedback on whether or not it would be worth building on. I'm saying this because Bioware is planning future tank missions, which we can only assume will be more like conventional missions and will include more dialogue.
Kasumi, on the other hand, is supposedly going to add 5 hours of gameplay that introduces her and her story, so it'll likely be -very- dialogue heavy if my experience with RPGs is any indication. If you're not in Cerberus Network, I would suggest skipping Firewalker -until- further Tank missions are released. Save your cash for Kasumi Goto. For one, Shepherd is in a suit for the first part of the mission, so instantly it wins some James Bond points

Firewalker IS free...if you're in the Cerberus Network, which is why metallifan said:
metallifan wrote: If you're not in Cerberus Network, I would suggest skipping Firewalker -until- further Tank missions are released.
I think he means to say "It's not worth paying the 1200 MS points for the Cerberus Network, and Firewalker, until they have more tank missions."
The only free stuff on the Network is:
- The Normandy Crash site mission (meh, gives you a little exp and a helmet for your room)
- Zaeed character and his loyalty mission (meh, I look forward to trying the evil choice for that one but other than that I didn't use the character much in my parties)
- Cerberus Armor (don't wear it as it covers the face during missions and ruins dialogue for me)
- Eviscerator Shotgun (everyone with a shotgun in my parties uses it)
- Arc Projector heavy weapon (haven't had a chance to use it yet)
- Firewalker DLC (opined upon already)
If that's worth the MS points for you, go for it. I'm not sure if I'd bother with the Cerberus Network or not for all this, however. I think the Eviscerator might be the only thing I'd miss, for my Insanity-difficulty run. Other than that...

Exactly what I'm saying, in fact. I bought the Collector's edition, so I got free Cerberus access, but those that didn't - don't spend money on Firewalker just yet. Get it when the new tank missions are out, but not before. Kasumi Goto will likely be a much more worthwhile purchase, judging by the previews on various sites that seem to have mostly good things to say. I hear it isn't -perfect-, but it's still a very worthy addition. I guess we'll find out in a couple days

Well if you've got Cerberus, then you might as well get Firewalker if you haven't yet. It's still good fun ripping around blasting stuff with a flying tank. I found it to be a fun time waster. It's probably something like test-flying one of these:
And no, that isn't photoshopped. Anyway, yea. Good time waster if you can get it free. But not worth the money if you're not in the network.

Actually, metallifan, I found the Hammerhead to have incredibly smooth handling. It's so much better than the Mako it's not funny. The only thing it's missing is some kind of secondary weapon, like a machinegun. I don't like having to use the cannon all the time.
That said, I think there are too many pessimists in this thread.

Oh I wasn't saying it was bad. I agree that it's actually drivable. The Mako was a ing nightmare.
In fact, I actually lol'ed with joy when I saw the Mako half-buried in the Crash Pack. I was referring to the missions being more of a time waster and practice than something that actually aids the storyline.
The referance to the real Flying Tank was just me saying how much fun the Hammerhead is (And how I'd like my own flying tank)

I liked the mako, nowhere else have i found a tank that can tea-bag enemies to death.
As for the hammer head, I've only manged to play a couple of the missions and so far i'm not that impressed, they seem more like races than anything else.

Keep in mind that the Hammerhead was never intended to be an integral part of the game, unlike the Mako.

You could tea-bag them, assuming you could actually steer it toward them without flying off to the extreme-left or extreme-right or flip right around to face arse-backwards at the slightest tap of the controls
Again, these seem to be test missions for feedback on the vehicle itself. There are future Tank missions in the works, and I'm assuming that they'll be better planned out and executed. There wasn't even really dialogue here, which also lends itself towards seeming like more of a dry-run of the Tank as an additional angle in the game. I'm willing to bet we'll see better-constructed, more in-depth missions as time goes on.

Funny thing is, I've never had any problems with the mako at all, except when i thought it' be cool to do a drive by snipe with the mako's cannon and drove straight into a lava pit.
Also, you make a good point about the mission being a test run, i'll be wiling to wait see what solutions them come up with based on player feedback.

I'm on my second play through, and downloaded all the extras so far. I liked the hammerhead, although the resource gathering was a bit easy, I only had it blow up on me once, and that was just because I rushed in for a kill and got blown up by a prime.
Can't wait for the Kasumi DLC to come out.
