THE THREAD OF TEMPTATION!

Simple Rules:

post

(1) the army you are currently working on (collecting/assembling/painting);

(2) why you got into them;

(3) the army (preferably one mentioned in the poll) that you would give up on the current one for;

(4) why you would do so.

+ + + + + + + + + + + +

For me:

(1) Witch Hunters

(2) Besides being really drawn into the Soritas' background and their cool design, I like cheap power armor and faith. I also have nothing against super-easy-to-assemble (Exorcist aside), statically-posed, simple-paint-schemed miniatures, either.

(3) Dark Eldar

(4) I'm also really into these guys' look. Can't say too much about their background as it is currently pretty flimsy but (unlike a certain dakkatron) I do like the idea of Space Elves and doubly like the idea of Evil Space Elves. I'm not too familiar with what they do on the table outside of Thor's tactica or whether they would still work like that in a new codex but I'd be willing to try. Like many, I'm a sucker for the new thing so an updated model range for these guys would sorely tempt me . . . and unlike Valkyries, Trygons, and Flesh Tearer Chapter Masters, I don't think I could muster the will to resist building a kabal . . .

I might get back to my sisters eventually . . . poor girls.

Your turn!

Three Color Minimum

1. Currently building up a new unorthodox eldar list for fun play.
2. Eldar were my second army and I still have a soft spot; I also wanted to test some painting techniques. I just enjoy their aesthetic in general, which also leads into:

3. Dark Eldar

4. I am constantly tempted by a number of 'fun' builds; I also would love the painting opportunity. I think DE schemes are usually a bit bland, IE black with a neon contrasting colour (pink, green, purple etc); and would love to make a more 'eldar-esque' theme.
I should also say the only thing that is really stopping me is an immanent new release, and complete makeover to the models / playable lists.

1. Currently building Space Wolves
2. After reading the codex and getting into the Space Wolf Omnibus, I fell in love with army-wide counter-attack and some really amazing models.
3. Dark Eldar
4. Part of it is that I want to play a 'bad guy' army (Since I currently have Space Wolves and Tau) - and a 5th Edition Dark Eldar codex with new models would fit the bill. The other reason is that I've seen some really amazing Dark Eldar painting/modeling (Even if the models themselves are ugly) and if they got some new ones, I'd love to give them a try.

1. Currently working on Orks, after a year and a half of nids
2. I like the idea of a violent horde and orks have some fun and goofy conversion/scratchbuilding opportunities.
3. Tau
4. I love the aesthetic and it is far from what I'm used to playing. Assuming a new codex to provide points fixes and some new toys they seem like a fun army.

1. Building both Alpha Legion, which I apply both the Chaos and SM Codex to for various fluff reasons, and Orks.
2. Alpha Legion has got some pretty epic, yet still mysterious fluff behind it. The legion just screams versatile play. I play the Orks just for having a good time. Just beating the crap outta stuff with the Orks is just sheer entertainment.
3. Dark Eldar
4. I love both of the Eldar factions, and would love to play both. But I would really like to play DE for a bit first, simply because it gives me a truly evil army to play, that is also something new.

1: Tau
2: I was 13 & they were just about to release. I saw the battlesuits & thought Mobile suit. Still playing the as my #1 army today.
3 & 4:I really want to play Dark Eldar, even bought a Talos & warrior squad (albeit on sale). Got the codex too, but I have heard a lot of rumors pointing to "end of this year" for them. Normally I'd dismiss it but they seem to be quite prevalent lately & hopefully they will get new models. The current ones are kinda bad looking (excuse my poor grammar) so I'm hoping they get a cooler, more sinister, make-over.

(1) Imperial Guard

(2) The sheer humanity is the primary force. I believe the 4th ed Codex summed it up best. Something along the lines of:
4th Ed IG Codex wrote:
...these guys face gribbly alien monsters, superhuman creatures who feel no pain and technology that approaches sorcery in its sophistication all with nothing but a lasgun and some guts behind it.

Its really that underdog kind of feel they give off. No matter how hard the enemy might smash them, they (for the most part) go down fighting, kicking and (more often than not) screaming.
It's good to have a faction that is indeed fallible. That can, and often does fail, but still pushes on. No acid-spitting, mindless, 1337 warrior crap. They are the most...human.

(3) Inquisition. (Combined )

(4) In a second. Even though I have recently sold the majority of my Inquisition/SoB/GK forces I would come running back in a second if a new (Combined) Codex presented itself. There would simply be too much shiny new stuff to keep me away. The very idea of plastic models (Affordable? Maybe! ) leaves me wistfully dreaming...

Nobody expects them. Hell, we may even get extra specialised wargear!

There'd have to be some sort of specialised countdown of course. Something our enemies would never expect...

(1) Imperial Fists

(2) After a false start with a Tau army and a successful Night Lords force, the new Chaos codex meant that it was time to look for greener pastures

(3) Eldar

(4) I have half a dozen models that I painted in the Yme-Loc color scheme and they look really awesome. I like the fact that my Imperial Fists play the way they should: they're a hammer, sturdy and destructive. But Eldar require subtlety and synergy, something that MEQs lack. Dark Eldar would fit the bill, but I prefer the "good" Eldar look a bit more. Besides, I already have WFB Dark Elves, no need for two armies of pointy-eared pirates.
Shas'O Dorian wrote:2: I was 13 & they were just about to release. I saw the battlesuits & thought Mobile suit.

That was EXACTLY my experience. The WD with the Tau Index Xenos / crazy release coverage was my very first (also, it had the first Cityfight battle report, which eventually led to my Night Lords). I had been a huge fan of Gundam Wing (even though I can't stand any other anime). Anyway, I thought it was cool to see someone with a similar story.

1.) Orks, going from mech-assault to dread bash

2.) After running mech assault orks for so long, and the new kan/deff dread models out, it's time for a change of pace.

3.) IG

4.) IG have always been an army I've been interested in. The only thing stopping me besides enough money to upstart them, is that I really don't want to paint a second horde style army!!! If there was a way to keep the model count down, and keep the competitive level up...I would.

2) I am just about to leave the British Army and wanted to create an Army that had the same colour scheme (sad I know).

3) Blood Angels

4)The first army I ever colected way back in 1994 was Blood Angels and with the release of the new codex and the lovely new models (my opinion don't jump on me) I am really tempted to start them again. The main problem with this is that I already have a puppies and smurfs amries and my wife will go spare if I by more SM and unfortunately she knows if I start painting them red then they are a new Army.

(1) Space Wolves. I plan on having 2 or 3 great companies worth, replete with Titans and Thunderhawks.

(2) Space Vikings with guns. Need I say more?

(3) I wouldn't, but if I HAD to pick one it would be Eldar

(4) Space Elves with guns. Need I say more? actually yes, I do... they have a lot of very good opprotunities for freehand painting, which is something I havn't explored much of with my wolves. Also, the fluff behind them being a dying race is pretty cool IMO.
