No. It's models first, rules last. New rules are always written to sell a new model kit. There are the odd exceptions (like Chaos Possessed), but for the most part the rules are written to sell a new kit or sell a kit that didn't sell in the previous edition (eg. Assault Terminators).

Does this mean I should stock up on possessed? They might be the best thing since sliced bread in the next chaos codex. Or one of the legion codexes.

Once upon a time, I told myself it's better to be smart than lucky. Every day, the world proves me wrong a little more.

Possessed. Skyray. Tau rail snipers. Chaos spawn. Thunderfire canon. Tankbustas. Biovores. Raveners. Wraiths. Pariahs. Those ork gyrokopters... I can keep going with this. Every time they make one new kit that looks a bit strong, they make two that are crap.

But keep hitting that horse. Its endearing.

You live in a complete fething fantasy land Shummy.

They make rules to sell models. They're a model company. End of story. They're a company that sell models, so they'll do that and only that until they can't do that any longer. It's not a conpiracy.

You seem to be the only person here denying that. They also make loads of mistakes - as we've seen time and time agian - so if the rules suck (or aren't as good as something else) it's probably because they think the rules are good, or even that they think the 'ooh shiny' effect will work regardless of what they write.

And half of those units are your opinion. Spawn and Possessed, yes. Thunderfire Cannon? It's been debated. Skyray and Sniper Scouts aren't bad units in and of themselves, they just compete with Railguns, and Tau need Railguns more than they need more anti-infantry firepower.

And listing Wraiths and Pariahs? Come on now. You are really grasping at those straws. Every model in the Necron range was new when they came out. Every single one. And they'll be buffed come the next Codex, because GW designs rules with a pendulum effect (something else you see to deny).

Anyway, I've danced this dance enough times with you Shummy. You can now thrrow in some more ad hominems in your 'rebuttal', attempt to trivialise my points with the 'dead horse' comment (much easier to debate someone when you just ignore their arguments - you and DD are wonderful at that). Hell, even make reference to 'Facepalm' as that seems to be so popular and clever at the moment (and it's another neat trick for getting out of any real argument). I don't care. I'm done arguing with you over this. You can deny reality all you like, but GW are a miniature company first, rules company last. Don't like that fact, then piss off.

They are a company that sells miniatures, thats true. They do certainly exist to sell models. I'm debating whether or not they overpower new models to increase initial sales. I am arguing that they don't, since honestly most new models aren't very powerful and plenty of old ones randomly get buffs. That falcon sure wasn't new, neither were those plaguemarines, or that daemon prince. I don't see them making a new predator kit. I wonder where the new kit is for vindicators, they sure got a big boost.

I wouldn't call it a dead horse if you ever did anything but say "OH GOD LOOK AT STORM SHIELDS AND LOOTAS, THEY SELL MINIS. ERGO STORM SHIELDS AND LOOTAS ARE AMAZING BECAUSE THEY WANT TO SELL MORE".

An old model makes them just as much money as a new one. Period.

At least half of all new model releases are (arguably, since quality is ethereal and based on opinion) bad in game. Period.

They are a game company as well as a miniatures company and aren't going to make much if people stop playing their game because of its unbalanced and unfun in game play. Period.

The reason I call it a dead horse is because you spout off the same trite crap every time without ever backing yourself up beyond simply quitting the argument. Its a dead horse. The horse is dead. It's no longer alive. For every example you can give of them trying to boost sales by making something better than it should be I can give a counterexample of something that was underpowered and didn't sell well as a result. They are just inconsistent, not devilishly clever.

I'm going to have to go ahead and agree with you here. They don't overpower models to increase sales - that would require competence. They overpower models because they don't know how to balance for crap and they don't care to try.
