The only problem with Plague Marines is that they punch under their weight compared with similarly fluffy options like Possessed with an Icon of Nurgle, Terminators with an Icon of Nurgle, and Chaos Space Marines with an Icon of Nurgle. That I3 is a doozy, and you want a hard-hitting unit for when Typhus inevitably fluffs it.
But if you're going to take Possessed, you should take a Summoned Greater Daemon to pop out of their Champion. Typhus and a Greater Daemon beating on a unit can be fun.

yeah,
possessed don't have the random result - flight...
but it's true a greater deamon is a good option for a possessed squad, and you can concider the 36pts spent on the champion as part of the cost of the greater deamon.. still a bargin at 136pts... just make sure he's still around when you make the roll... i always have at least 3 champions on the board for the GD to summon off...
Panic.

Well, there is a second poster sharing my opinion.
Termies are much more resilient than Possessed due to their 2+ save.
Ask Necron players. They have a hard time removing Termies.

I would prefer termies as well, since Fearless is not really desirable in melee, and 2+ is much better than 3+ in melee.
If Typhus rolls a 1 and loses a wound, with Possessed you now have to hope you got the power weapons/rending to punch through armor, and do 1+ wound than your opponant to tie. Assuming your MEQ opponant has a fist or power weapon, if your Possessed got Scout for instance, you are actually at a disadvantage, having to punch through a 3+ save, even if your opponant needs 5's to wound while you need 3's. If you lose, you are taking even more saves.
However, terminators are not likely to lose as many, and all have power weapons or power fists, and so should still be able to do a sizable number of wounds in every game, every time. Even if they do lose, a LD10 is very hard to fail, and does not cause even more armor saves.

Fearless does keep you from ever running. If Typhus is in a squad that is below 1/2 strength and Falling Back he is essentially out of the game.

Possessed have exactly the same Invulnerable save as Terminators against the Powerfist. They have the +1S instead of the +1Sv which means they die faster to normal attacks in combat but do more damage. It's a decent balance when used correctly.
However, terminators are not likely to lose as many, and all have power weapons or power fists, and so should still be able to do a sizable number of wounds in every game, every time. Even if they do lose, a LD10 is very hard to fail, and does not cause even more armor saves.
Unless you only fight a few select enemies, you won't always have a LD10. There are multiple units, powers, etc. which can reduce your Ld greatly. There are even powers that make you Fall Back without ever getting to take a Ld test. In combat, a Terminator would much rather take a few "No Retreat!" armor saves than risk being completely wiped out in a Sweeping Advance. Sadly, Chaos doesn't have the ATSKNF rules that the Space Marines enjoy.

I'd like to note that the scout ability is also conferred to any transport the scout unit is in. Thus if they are in a Land Raider the Land Raider can then perform an outflank move which, besides Chosen, is awesome. So now comes my second question - How bout chosen instead?

it only confers scout to the vehicle if the vehicle is a dedicated transport so possessed can scout in a rhino but not a land raider, and chosen are the same way

Additionally, you roll daemonkin after deployment and after being able to declare outflank -- so you can never outflank with possessed.

A 12" head-start rarely hurts.
Still, rather irrelevant when we're discussing Possessed that will accompany Typhus in a Land Raider.

Chosen could work out kinda nicely, if expensively.
I love the concept of possessed but I really dislike the implementation in this book. Sure they're potentially nails, but I prefer to know what I'm going in with.

That is a very good idea to use Nurgle Marines with Typhus.

I wouldn't use Typhus. The lack of Eternal Warrior really hurts him.
And I'd say Plague Marines are better than termies or possessed, plus they are troops. They're the best objective holders in the armylist.
