Hi everyone. I've been away over Easter, so I've not had much time to work on this, so just a small update ^^;

Thanks again for all your kind comments! Lot's of great advice and also some motivation boosters!

CMDante and Migs, my Shapers arrived in the post this morning, I really can't wait to get using them after hearing your praises for them! So stay tuned c:

@Malika, I'm not sure about combining the Kroot kit with the Ghoul kit, as you can see in the picture below I've made the ghoul actually very tall and the kit comes with a nice variety of limbs. I would quite like to work with some Kroot rifles as I'd love to make some muskets (perhaps) from them, but I'll save that for later! (I had hoped to make some Kroot Mercs. at some point anyway!) With regards to a heavy weapon mutant, I originally thought no, as the Plasma Gun is so freaking large on the Ghouls anyway! Although I have a spare Heavy Stubber that might be suitable (the Delaque one), but the idea of using an Ork interests me!

When I make my next Mutant, Wehrkind, I'll post some shots before the limbs go on! :]

Anyway, here is what I've been working on so far. I am struggling to take nice pictures, but oh well. I must stress that I am not up to the standards of painting most of the =I= crew are, however these are still very PIP 0: ! Hopefully I'll be able to finish them off in a couple of days!

Tell me what you think :]

I like the palette a lot and the character are really coming alive now.

You do need to drill out the barrels ASAP though!

Haha, yes I will drill them out as soon as I can!

I'm glad you like the palette. I am going to try and apply lots of weathering and rust to these models to really make them come to life! (And also improve my painting skills!)

I really like the muted palette that you have used here, it looks great. I love the servitor and the mutant but I'm not too keen on the merc. I'm not convinced by the dark skintone. I don't think it has enough definition to it, maybe a few more highlights or some stronger shading? Also, the hair doesn't really stand out.

I don't mean to criticise too much. Overall they look great.

Good work! I love the colours you used, but I have to second the Lost Hobbit, the mercenaries skin looks as though not yet finished, especially with the great paintjob on the rest of the mini.

EDIT: Just noted that it's PIP, so no surprise it looks as if it was not yet finished...

Wow! I have to aid my voice of praise for the choice of palette, they just ooze atmosphere.
Something about the colour and poses just suggests a moonlight raid of some sort...

I like the skintone of the Servitor and mutant, how did you do those?

You sure have done your conversion justice with this paintjob. And you get a plus for painting them in so muted colour, always appreciated(I spellt it wrong now didn't I?).

Really admire the sepia tones to this group. Migsula picked up on the drilling issue chuckle, otherwise nothing too critique till you're done.

On a related note, ..I must buy some of those Servitors!..keep forgetting. They are so well sculpted.

Great update.

Looking pretty sharp! I am quite a fan of those servitors too; Inquisitor Shootybits has a pack of three, and despite being pretty much the same they look the part just right.

I might agree with the notion of highlighting the skin tone on the merc a little more, as well as suggest that you should alter the hair color a little. Having one's skin tone be very similar to one's hair color can be a little off putting in person, but on a mini it really confuses the eye and can muddy up the preception. Of course, these are still WIP, so no doubt she will be sharp as anything here shortly

If I may make one request: Paint something on the hat of the mutie. That flat brown is kind of dull at best, and really would benefit from a nice red or maybe orangey-yellow symbol or pattern on it. There just isn't much definition to keep the eye entertained, and that color of brown says "ew... cat made a mess" too much for me on it's own. Of course, that might be my cat's fault more than your painting skills :-P

Thanks for all your comments again! I am glad you like the palette scheme, as that last picture stood, only base colours and a wash had been applied. Critique on the palette was the main thing I was after (Plus I always like to post a picture if I can when updating!), so I am really chuffed you all liked the colour selection :]

Those three models won't actually be in the same gang together, I plan at the moment to create a gang solely of mutants (they will be the Deeper Vileness), the Necromunda minis will be painted up for the use of mercenaries, for the arbitrator to employ, and for other players to perhaps "borrow" so they only need to convert an Inquisitor to start playing! But the brown and sepia tones will be applied to all the models I make for =I=munda to group them all together!

@Modhail, the skin on the Mutie and Servitor is just Fortress grey with a Devlan Mud wash over it. The current plan is to build up the skin with more washes and perhaps highlighting with Fortress Grey/ Skull White/ Elf Flesh, so fingers crossed it turns out okay!

@Wehrkind, a motif on the hat is a great idea! I'm going to sit down and plan one now :] (thanks!)

At the moment I am currently working on a heavy for my Mutant Gang but not much progress so far. So I carried on working on my Escher miniatures today. I aim to own the entire range and have it all painted so I was VERY excited when a Mad Donna new in blister arrived through the post today!

The lightings really bad at the moment, so I apologise for the dark picture (I'll take better ones soon). It's just to show you what I've worked on today. I built up the skin tones on the Escher I am painting (and applied some 80s panda eyes! xD ). I then tried out my new Shapers -which are simply amazing!- I gave one Escher a custom hairstyle and upgraded weapons, on Mad Donna I extend the fringe and gave her bangs, with both models I tried to make the hair look windswept.

So yeah, any C+C is very very welcome, although I understand everything is hard to make out (-better pics soon!-) Otherwise this small picture is for your enjoyment, and to rest assured that I am not being idle ;]

Thanks for the recipe! I hadn't expected it to be so simple... I'll have to try it out soon.

It's a bit hard to see the GS work on the new ladies, but the skin on the girl in the centre certainly looks a lot more alive now.

Nice start so far on the new mercs. I need to pick up some of those 'munda Eschers and other gangers for my LatO. They really have some nice character with that "dark, post apocalyptic civie" look so lacking from the mainline 40k.
I do think the one on the left's right hand pistol looks a tad off. I am not really certain why though... possibly the size, but I think perhaps the angle of it in her hand. Maybe it needs to be tweaked a few degrees towards vertical. The rifle though looks darn near perfect; just needs some gas vents in the muzzle section there to add that finishing touch.

Still doing a great job!

Can I jsut way WOW Bottle! I think the thing I like the most is the clutter of gear on your scratchbuilds. It really gives them the complicated look of being a "character" rather than just another trooper. Great job on your GS work, the improvment is great in just two figures and you will find those shapers are awesome. I got one and it really does make pushing and pulling the gs into whatever shapes you want super simple. Now I just need to Try ProCreate to see if it is really all that it is suposed to be(All the good stuf of GS + all the good stuff of Brown stuff hard edges, etc).

Again, showing great stuff here!

Hey everyone. Thanks for your comments and views again, really makes me feel happy that people might be enjoying this blog! :]

@Malika: I would love to use the Demonettes, I love Migs' Sniper Girl conversion, and I think they can get some real Blanche-esque convertions from them, which are much more suitable for true =I=munda over the House Escher Gangers. I think I will attempt it at some point, but I must admit, my love for the Escher range is clouding my judgment, so I keep having urges to paint them! (I will just turn them into a straight Necro gang, once I have enough painted!)

@Werkind: I agree with you! (as always! xD ) The pistol seems really over-sized to me too. I wish I hadn't cut off the original stub gun (I had given her a plasma pistol), because every pistol I try is totally oversized. (In her hand is a shaved down auto-pistol!)

For the observant among you, one will notice my thread thus far lacks an integral part of =I=munda... Inquisitors! I aim to remedy to situation as soon as my Empire Wizards box set arrives, so stay tuned (a Tech-Priest and Assassin are also in the works!)

- RL gets in the way of this hobby, but really I don't think i'd want it any other way. Anyway, it turns out that I may be moving to South Korea very soon (if everything goes to plan). and so my potential to make =I=munda models will not change, but my scope for games will drastically. I light of this, I have spent the last few weeks just slapping basecoats on everything so I could get some games in! And today was the first reward from all that grafting!

So here is a battle report for your enjoyment, (if you so wish.) None of the models here are finished in painting, except the older Necro Minis (with the grey rubble bases). I will make all these models look nice once I move, and possibly before. (Including the old Necro Minis, as I think I've gotten much better since then -something you'll have to take my word on because I've not posted a finished model yet!-) But they all stand up okay for a battle report!

This battle report is inspired by the great work of one literary genius, Xanthos! I aimed to make it a narrative report in a similar way. It shows the final scenes of the Crime Boss Papa'jin (controlled by me), and his hunters, the Bounty Hunter Jacob Bones & Co. (controlled by my little brother -his first ever Necro fight-). It takes places on the edge of an industrial complex in the wastelands of Corpionus IV:

+++start transmission+++

The Fall of Papa'jin

Jacob Bones spat out his cigar and stamped it into the dust covered ground. He was up an hour before dawn. The rest of the team were still resting and he had wondered out of the camp to survey the landscape around him. He grimaced. The swirling ash storms obscured everything more than a mile distant. Worst of all they would be traveling through the thick of it today. He was sick of all this. For the past two weeks he and the team had been forced to trek across the wastelands on foot, their APC transport wrecked in the Sludge Flats just outside of Fell Ordamentum, the last Imperial settlement on the border of this desolate land. They were pursuing the interplanetary Crime-lord Papa'jin, an ruthless individual who headed the Golden Serpent Cartel. Jacob Bones had no quarry with the man, but in his pocket was a 4000 credit contract from a man who did.

He smiled and lit up another cigar. This would be enough to put him into retirement. Well, as long as the mercenaries he had hired to assist didn't demand any costs on top of their extortionate 1000 credit hiring fee. The old bounty hunter Jacob Bones frowned. The mercenaries called themselves the 'Scarlet Pistols' and were all under the command of one Miss Scarlet. The woman terrified Jacob. As soon as they could track down their prey the better.

He heard the crunch of footsteps behind him. The weight and rhythm so famliar to him, he knew it was his assistant without even looking.
"Corvillion, why must you disturb me? This best be pleasing news."
Corvillion stood beside him and looked into the distant with a disgusted look wrought on his face, "Quick Snake has returned."
"...and?"
"He has picked up the trail again-"
"Well about time."
"There is an ancient industrial complex to the South East. They are somewhere inside there, and They are going to be waiting for us."
"Seems they have a scout too."
Corvillion nodded. A few moments latter he added, "Why do you think they've bothered to trek it out this far in no-mans land? The Native reports that they have two guests with them.
"I see. These guests have joined them recently?"
Corvillion shuck his head. "They've been with them since Subsequor."
Jacob Bones shrugged. "I don't care why they're here, try not to tire yourself with such thoughts my friend. As long as we can claim bounty on his new friends, he could have a hundred for all I care. Now tell me, what of our Royal Princess, has she awakened from her slumber?"
"Miss Scarlet? I'm not sure, last I saw she was ordering the native, Quick Snake, to make her some breakfast."
"... and did he?"
"Well I saw him urinating on the side of her tent."
"Oh my... can we keep him as a pet?"

Dramatis Personae

The Good

Jacob Bones - an old Bounty Hunter, armed to the teeth.
Corvillion - his apprentice. A gunfighter with 2x Bolt Pistols

Miss Scarlet - Leader of the Scarlet Pistols, armed with a Plasma Pistol, Stub Gun and Chainsword
Barret - the heavy, armed with a Heavy Bolter
Tiffin - the agent, armed with a Silenced and Scoped Auto-Gun
Minavra Delan - a fierce fighter, with a Plasma Pistol, metal Club and Flack Armor
Nyro - the new recruit, with Auto-Pistol and Crowbar

Quick Snake - the Native Tracker on a personal warpath (to what end, who knows?)

The Bad

Papa'jin - Crimeboss and leader of the Golden Serpent Cartel, armed with a Bolter and Stub Gun.
"Chef" - a charismatic fighter, with his "gut buster special" (Heavy Bolter)
Kaey Sum - an impetuous Juve armed with an Auto-Pistol and Photon flash flares.
"Egg" - a secretive individual with a Stub Gun.

Chik'te - another Native Tracker, armed with a Shotgun and Club.

The Ugly

Two secretive Mutants, their role in this story in unknown, although they accompany Papa'jin and his Gang.

The Fight!

On the outskirts of the ancient industrial complex, Papa'jin - tired of running - turns to face his pursuers and fight them off.

He orders his gang to set up on the very outskirts of the complex. Aiming to gun down his pursuers before they can get too close.

Papa'jin and Chef take up positions towards the south edge, the Mutants keeping close eyes upon them.

The Native, Chik'te arrives beneath them, scouting out the lower regions of the complex.

To the North, youngsters Egg and Kaey Sum arrive, boasting to each other as they fire warning shots into the air.

The mercenaries Tiffin and Minavra Delan arrive amongst the outer-ruins on the southern flank, ready to dash for the cover ahead.

In the centre, Miss Scarlet takes the newbie Nyro under her wing to show her the ropes!

To the North, Barret accompanies the two bounty hunters as they scout cautiously through the ruins.

Quick Snake is a master of infiltration, and is already creeping across a factory floor.

He freezes as he hears people approaching...

Spotting the loudly talking Juves to the North, he waits silently.

It Begins

The Mercenaries to the south all start sprinting across the open ground, darting from cover to cover trying to remain unseen as they approach their targets.
However, up on top of the 2nd story building, the mutant armed with the Auto-Gun spots them in the distance, he barks an order at Chef, who proceeds to spray a hail of bullets at the ruins distant. One of the shots hit Minavra Delan as she attempts to close the ground between them. The wound causes no lasting damage but sends her out cold for the rest of this fight.

Lucky for the rest of the mercenaries, the Heavy Bolter jams, Chef throws it across the floor in frustration.

Jacob Bones, his assistant Corvillion and the Heavy, Barret, all fan out as they approach the factory to help cover Quick Snake. Corvillion spies the rival Native, Chik'te, moving beneath the buildings and fires several shots with his two bolt pistols, pinning him in place.

Papa'jin and the Plasma armed mutant begin to move down the central gang way, Quick Snake looses his cool and bursts from his hiding place, hitting the Crime lord and wounding him, but still not enough to take him down. Papa'jin hisses with frustration and aims his Bolter at the Native. The Crack Shot hits home, and Quick Snake crumples, falling to his knees screaming and clutching the wound.

The two Cartel Juves, climb up onto the factory floor, ready to finish off Quick Snake, however they fall into view of Jacob Bones, who had just rounded the corner. Aiming up his Bolter with telescopic sight, he aims at Egg and shots him off the back of the factory. Egg hits the floor and lies there still for a few moments, before trying to crawl to safety.

Under the orders of the mutant, Chef clambers down from the 2nd story building onto the southern gang way, and pulls out his shotgun, ready to shoot as soon as another mercenary makes an appearance. Meanwhile, the female mercenary Tiffin, is unfazed by her friend getting knocked out and continues to run down the southern flank attempting to flank the Cartel. In the centre on the ground floor, Corvillion closes in on the native Chik'te hitting him with shots from both of his pistols. The native falls to the floor a trickle of blood running from his left ear.

Papa'jin's impetuous shooting of Quick Snake proves to be his biggest mistake, as he falls into the sights of the Heavy Barret who lets loose with his Heavy Bolter. The flurry of shots strike the Crimelord across the face, horribly scarring him. He falls onto the gang way, screaming, clutching his face as he tries to crawl to safety.

With Papa'jin down, the mutant rushes forward for revenge. However, The Plasma shot flings wide of Barret.

On the Southern flank. Miss Scarlet has finished orchestrating her pincer attack on the Heavy Chef. She snaps an order at Nyro, who misses wildly with her Auto-Pistol. Cursing in frustration she steps out into the open, not thinking twice about the Shotgun fire from Chef that also misses wildly. She raises her Plasma Pistol and with a snarl on her face fires a full power blast, hitting the Heavy in the arm. Flaying the skin down to the bone. He falls into a motionless heap.

Nyro stands in awe of the ancient buildings, the green fighter forgets herself for a few moments.

Tiffin continues to strafe down the south flank, almost ready to cut off any escape.

Things are looking dire for the Cartel. In one last ditched effort, Kaey Sum rushes forward to shoot down Jacob Bones.

Foolish and rash, the young Juve must have wasted his ammo in warning shots, as the gun clicked empty.

The Mutant on the top of the 2nd-story building could see everything in front of him. Chef and Chik'te out cold. Papa'jin, and Egg crying out due to their injuries. He barked the withdraw call, the remaining gangers all breaking their nerve and beginning to flee the battle.

Kaey Sum runs back across the factory floor and down the ladder. However the bounty hunter's assistant Corvillion had fallen back to help his master and rounded the corner to see the fleeing Cartel ganger.

He drew and leveled his pistols in the blink of an eye, gunning down his second victim today. Kaey Sum bit his lip and held his nerve, attempting to crawl to safety along with his companion Egg, who had almost recovered from his previous wounds.

The Plasma armed mutant ran back across the gang way, dragging the still conscious body of Papa'jin with him. The Mercenaries were closing in on them from all sides.

The two bounty hunters pulled out their hand-cuffs, ready to take down the youngsters. Egg climbed to his feet only to be shot back down by Jacob Bones. As the two were being closed upon, Kaey Sum also climbed back up to his feet and drew his knife. Accepting the challenge, Jacob Bones spat out his cigar and drew his chainsword. The lad only lasted one round before he was cut down with 4 strikes of the diesel powered blade.

Jacob lit up another cigar and prodded the boy with his boot. To his amazement he had survived against the odds.

Towards the centre, mercenaries were closing in and the two mutants panicked. The Plasma armed one, who had been dragging the body of Papa'jin, left the Crimelord to his fate and made a break for safety. The Mutant on the second floor had no chance of escape and in a last attempt leapt off the building, only to fall and cripple itself.

The crippled mutant is closed upon on all sides.

At last, Tiffin arrives to cut off the escape routes, and spots the fleeing Plasma mutant. Knowing this could be her only chance to revenge her injured friend Minavra, she raises her scoped Auto-Gun and... misses.

The mutant makes his escape of into the wastes.

Epilogue

"Boss, should we go after him then?"
"Who?"
"The mutant who got away!"
"Alas, I haven't the foggiest what you're raving about Corvillion."

Jacob spoke the truth, such a complete lack of caring for the fate of the last mutant, had erased it from his mind. He did not care why the mutants were travelling with the Cartel, that they somehow had control over such a powerful figure. And he did not care what they were doing out here in the middle of nowhere amoung a fool's mountain of junk. He had 6 captives, the infamous Papa'jin laid unconscious at his feet. Jacob lit up a cigar and looked at the fallen Crimeboss, "Let's hope they recognise him, with his face looking like that..."
