That money's keeping me from losing my place. I've chewed through a portion of my retirement fund (Hopefully I won't need food when I'm old) and part of the emergency stimulus package went to extend my unemployment. I'd rather borrow it now and pay it back later when I'm in better straits. There's very few job positions available where I'm at (and a LOT of competition) and because I bought this place two freekin months before I lost my job, I can't move without racking up a ton of debt by selling it at a huge loss. Bad times.
Currently to fund any new hobby activities, I have to sell off some of my collectibles or my gaming items. You don't always get an even deal but what else can you do?

You want an idea of how desperate I am for a job?
Advert in my local Paper's job section (a meagre three pages long this week..) is for a Butcher. Pay is pretty good (£25,000 a year, which give or take is knocking on $40,000) and experience is preferred, but not essential.
I am not a Butcher, but I fancy a crack at this. So I will be applying, and offering my services as a trainee for £18,000. Yup, £7,000 less than they are offering, because it will be £18,000 MORE than I am earning at the moment.
This market sucks. Thanks a lot banks. Thanks for lining your own pockets without a care for the future. Arseholes.

Ditto. I tried to get a job at a Jack in the Box (fast food burger joint, for all those no in the know) that had JUST opened. While I was there, 30 people applied. 30! I got passed up because I couldn't carpool on the weekends. You know it's bad when fast food companies can feel comfortable with interview questions like "What excites you about working for (insert company name here)?" and "I get to pay my bills!" isn't an answer they want to hear, knowing that the job market is bad enough they can be picky. Really, WHO is truly excited about a minimum wage job flipping burgers and listening to customers complain about service?

Yup. A new edition of 40k means a new Rulebook for everyone, along with a new SM Codex for roughly half of their player base. AoBR building off BfM is basically all-meat, so it bumped cashflow like crazy. And Apoc has been a bona-fide "hit".
This year is probably going to be tough, and the IG / Planetstrike release is going to make or break the 40k numbers. GW is pushing WotR, because they need a real "hit" on the LotR front since they can't push WFB this year. If GW finishes anywhere near last year's numbers, they will have done exceptionally well.
And this is why GW isn't gambling on Dark Eldar, even though the rules are ready to go - with most competition getting hammered down, GW needs solid hitters.
If GW releases the rumored plastic Thunderhawk in Apoc, we'll know GW sees choppy waters and needs every penny of revenue.

Bloody hell Moopy. Best of luck finding fresh employment! I for one *hate* being unemployed. Not so much the lack of cash, more from a self respect thing. That first pint of the weekend taste so much better after 5 days hard toil. Quite aside from the monetary side of things, it's earnt in blood sweat and tears!
I'll be getting £128 a fortnight Jobseekers Allowance (form of social security) starting next week. Better than a kick up the arse, but man...I want a job!
I spent 9 months unemployed, then got a job for 3 months (nothing to do with what I'm qualified for, I'm a biologist and statistician and I got work as a store security gaurd) the company pulled out, another three months unemployed.
And recently I got a job working at an irish speaking childcare centre. I'm SO grateful and happy. I get to make a minor positive difference to some children, brush up my irish, and hell, earn money!
Hang in there lads. It sucks, but eventually you're gonna pull out. I know it's not exactly exciting to hear me tell you that, but I know the depression and worry that comes with unemployment.

I really feel you guys on this one. I worked my way up from store associate to head of outside sales, then promotions, then up to store manager. Then the owner decided he was going to bail, sell the company to a group of investors. So I've had my title stripped because people who are friends with the new owner got the job and I've had my salary cut by 55%.
I have 2 degrees and 14 years of experience. At this point I know what you mean Boss, I'm nowhere near doing something that I'm qualified for, but this is the age of the 'gigging' economy. Stable employment is slowly being replaced by having many part time jobs. That's what I'll be doing if things don't turn around here... Being a gigging musician, outside sales rep, and three other things just to make it.

It's a little too soon for WFB 8E. (only 3 years since WFB 7E was released) But I wouldn't be surprised to see GW milk the other side of the house with 8E releasing in 2010...

There wasn't anything especially wrong with 40k4 either, but GW turned the crank pre-emptively, rather than waiting like with 40k3.
I think the 4-year schedule is what we'll see going forward, because it's as fast as GW's players can stand. This allows GW to resolve niggling FAQ issues and get rules updates out a bit quicker, before the game gets stale.
Recall that GW no longer promises to update every army every edition, which is just fine as long as it's no more than 2 editions for each army.

GW hasn't yet raised prices, so there is no change to account for.
Heck, they hadn't even announced the price hikes when this went out.
Well, I was referring not specifically to the forthcoming US plastics rise in June, but to the numerous and well-documented price hikes around the world in the last ... well... every year since Noah was a lad. In particular I was referring to the massive (around 20%) hike in metals prices in October 2008.
GW appear to have increased their per-model price regularly higher than comparative leisure goods, yet after a period of decling turnover (2004-2007) seem to have recovered a level of growth in turnover again.
Maybe those still buying models from them are just as price inelastic as GW assume?
