Holy crap, I just remembered something.. I must have pushed it into the back of my head. Talk about repressing memories..
While going through basic traing at FT. Jackson, they were filming the movie renaissance man.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Renaissance_Man_(film)
they had the actors sitting in chairs right on the 'deck' and had them following us around to 'get into the mood'.
I got to meet Mark Wahlberg, Kadeem Hardison, Danny Devito and Gregory Hines (and the rest of the double d crew)..
We even yelled out the barracks window at mark who was sitting in his chair with his BDU shirt wide open and a white t-shirt. He gave us all the finger.. lol

I work for a Member of European Parliament these weeks since election is upcoming (Thomas Mann, he's my personal hero).
I meet with the Hessian Ministerpresident (Roland Koch, Gouvernour would be the equivalent term in the US) on a quite regular basis.
Other than that? Nothing. :( xD

I don't want to be human! I want to see gamma rays! I want to hear X-rays! And I want to - I want to smell dark matter! Do you see the absurdity of what I am? I can't even express these things properly because I have to conceptualize complex ideas in this stupid limiting spoken language! But I know I want to reach out with something other than these prehensile paws! And feel the wind of a supernova flowing over me! And I can know much more! I can experience so much more. But I'm trapped in this absurd body! |

I'm somewhat related to Neil Peart, drummer for Rush. And for the record, its pronounced PEERT not PERT.
Here's the relation. My mother's sister's husband's brother, so my uncle's brother. So he is an uncle twice removed? No one ever believes me so I never "name drop" except when they pronounce the last name wrong, usually when proclaiming his lyric-writing abilities...
Gaming wise, turns out one of my old guild members actually works for Blizzard, but not in development, so had to play Wow like the rest of us.

I called in to Dennis Miller's radio show about 2 months ago to talk about the movie In Bruges. I got about 7 words in (still counts as bff).
A family friend went to school with Brad Pitt at Kickapoo HS in Springfield, MO. My mom has a picture of Yakov Smirnof (sp).
My friend Mark used to live in the Sacramento area and knew a guy with the first name Bill. I forgot his last name, but his claim to fame is that he has one at least one GT with every fantasy army.

My cousin is James Spader. He used to read me bed time stories when I was a kid. When his first movie came out, Tuff Turf, no one in my high school believed me that I was related. It was very satisfying when he came through town several months later, and I was able to take some pictures with him at our house. I sure enjoyed making a few folks eat their words.

Talked to Peter Jackson on the phone, as an interview for an intermediate school (middle school/11, 12yr olds) newspaper. This was when production on Lord of the Rings hadn't started yet. Asked him the usual questions that a (reasonably) smart kid would ask a filmmaker.
Met Tem Morrison (Jango Fett) at the Armageddon convention.
Met that cute blonde lady from stargate SG1 at the Armageddon convention.
Got into a fist fight with Pikachu at the Armageddon convention.
Got into an argument with Mike King (comedian) at a bar after spilling a drop or two of tequila on his shoes.
Am good friends with the kids of a TV presenter (who has his own 7pm current affairs show), met him obviously. And eaten his BBQ and drunk his liquor.
Through that connection, briefly met most of the LotR lead actors. They were all dicks. Frodo got drunk and pissed in my favourite fountain!

I hear better things about him now but, back in those days, he was a TOTAL pr*ck. He let his own high opinion of himself go to his head.
Oh, crud. I almost forgot another... back in the day, PRE 3rd edition D&D... I wrote into Dragon magazine to express my opinion on some changes someone had suggested (he wanted gnomes and halflings removed from future PHB's because they weren't HERIOC enough, and wanted [wait for it]... GOBLINS put in, instead.
So, my letter was printed and, in part of it, I used the phrase "The play's the thing." A couple issues later, they started titling a series of articles "The Play's the Thing."
I used to have TWO copies of that issue of Dragon (can't recall the #), but they were lost in a fire.

I've met Uma Thurman, Michael J. Fox, Warick Davis (very awesome and very polite), Phil Donahue, Brooke Hogan, Miley Cyrus, and a few others while working at Disney. I missed Harrison Ford by a half an hour and Neil Patrick Harris by a day.
Warick was wearing a shirt that said "Judge me by my size, do you?" with a pic of yoda standing by a ride height stick.
The wife worked at the Hotels, and helped Trey Parker make reservations on his honeymoon, even helped him find a dinner jacket to attend a meal at Victoria and Alberts there.

Gaming related sadly... I was talking to Jervis Johnson at a GW Open Day and we were discussing old games. I happened to mention how i disliked the precursor to Battle Fleet Gothic, especially rolling the dice in the box lid. Jervis replied that he thought it was an elegent way of doing it, and i told him straight up "no, it was crap"...
jervis's response, "well, i designed it".....
i then managed to upset him even further by suggesting that they re-release Pygmies for Warhammer... he thought that the original scultps and concepts was slightly rascist.... oops...

Well, parking on campus is a bit deficient. Almost forgot: a couple of years later I was almost run over by Stephen Hawking. He was headed to dinner; I was going around a corner and that wheelchair can move pretty fast. Sadly, he's a lot less active these days.
