At my university you'll probably see George HW Bush at least once in your stint here. My roommate actually met him and his wife today.
On the same note I met Defense Secretary Robert Gates yesterday after Muster. I wanted to ask him about the changes in the defense budget but it was a little inappropriate at the time. Being after Muster and all.

I got to talk to Mark Hamill for a few minutes way back at Gen Con '95. He's a really nice guy and I remember asking him about voicing the Joker in the Batman cartoons. He wouldn't do the voice for me, but he said he really enjoyed voice-acting.
Later on, I stood in line to get an autograph from him (again) but this time he was there to promote the Wing Commander CCG. The security was passing out cards of his character and that was the -only- thing he was going to sign. No Star Wars stuff, period. Well of course everyone kept out their SW stuff and Mark was happy to sign it. The guy in front of me had a header card from the original 1977 store display that had most of the main actor's signatures on it. Mark geeked out when he saw it and gladly signed his name.
Just made me smile to see one of my childhood heroes be just as much of a geek as I am

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made. |

I also met Bill Clinton and George W. Bush, at different times. For the record, Bush's breath is DISGUSTING and Clinton looks fake in person.

After graduating high school, I worked at the same department store that George Clooney worked at. Of course, he was already in Hollywood by that time...
For those of you familiar with the movie Rain Man, the part after they leave the airport and come upon an auto accident and Dustin Hoffman's character gets out of the car and walks alongside the highway was filmed just a few miles away from where I grew up. Oddly enough, I've never seen the rest of the movie beyond that point.
On the gaming side, being here in Cincinnati means I know a few people from Ral Partha. I still bump into Golden Daemon Slayer Plaque (yes, plaque) winner Jeff Wilhelm occasionally and John Winter was a regular at the FLGS where I started playing 40K. I even have a Dwarf Anvil of Doom and Standard Bearer that John painted.

Hmmm... not that I've ever used it, but before Jason Richards became a Multiple Golden Demon award winner for his painting (some of his work is in the 2005-2006 and 2007 GW big catalogs), he had heard about me through mutual friends and asked if he could come find out more about miniature painting from me...
... after seeing his work a few months later, I think it was to find out how not to do it.

Gaming related:
I've played Magic with Tom Wham (an early Dragon magazine contributor who wrote all sorts of crazy games like King of the Tabletop, Snit's Revenge, The Awful Green Things from Outer Space, etc), Peter Adkinson, Richard Garfield, and others (what happens when you get into a game when it's first released), and have most of my Beta set of cards signed by the artists...
Other Celebrities:
I've met Terry Pratchett (who was most amused by the camera-watch I had at the time), Douglas Adams, and Rev. Billy Gibbons at various book signing events.
Ran into the guitarist and drummer for Motorhead circa 1991ish, in a Toys-R-Us while they were looking for RC cars to play with backstage. They recognized our accents (my family are English ex-pats living in the States) and came and said hello to us.

Have met Pratchett a few times and have several books signed by him.
See John Blanche, Alan and Michael Perry, Aly Morrison, Rick Priestly and several others at Warhammer World all the time but am too polite to go and bother them (despite wanting too.... I may need to buy Mr Blanche a drink one day...).
Attended Nuala and Warwick Kinrades wedding, and have the Taros Campaign signed by Warwick, but then again they did live about 5 doors up the road from us.
Met Larry Elmore many years ago and a Gen Con.
Talking of Pratchett I've met the real Hodges Arge.... a guy called Dave Hodges.

And so, due to rising costs of maintaining the Golden Throne, the Emperor's finest accountants spoke to the Demigurg. A deal was forged in blood and extensive paperwork for a sub-prime mortgage with a 5/1 ARM on the Imperial Palace. And lo, in the following years the housing market did tumble and the rate skyrocketed leaving the Emperor's coffers bare. A dark time has begun for the Imperium, the tithes can not keep up with the balloon payments and the Imperial Palace and its contents, including the Golden Throne, have fallen into foreclosure. With an impending auction on the horizon mankind holds its breath as it waits to see who will gain possession of the corpse-god and thus, the fate of humanity...... |

Hmm sounds fun. Now all we'd have to do is find Ulysses S. Grant's nephew and go ahead and throw down fistecuffs. (Note: I do NOT have an opinion on either general. The civil was was in the past, and I feel I shouldn't be effected.)

I think I have most of you beat here.
How many of you have met a famous serial killer? I have.
I met Kenneth McDuff back before he got released from prison the last time. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kenneth_Allen_McDuff)
Back when I first went to work for the prison system he was doing time on my unit and worked in our laundry depatment. I didn't pay him much mind as he wasn't famous yet and as just one of 2250 inmates on the unit, he really didn't stand out. It was only after he had been arrested and the big media coverage did I see his face on TV and say "Damn..I know that guy!".
As to more normal celebs I have met:
-I met Charles Manson prosecutor Vincent Buglosii at a book signing back in the mid '90s.
-I've met both Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity at book signings.
-I had the recently deceased porn star Marilyn Chambers sign a copy of "Insatiable" for me at an apearance she did in 2003.
-I got Gary Gygax to sign my first edition Dungeon Master's guide at a gaming convention in 1992.
-I met Col. Danny Mcknight (the guy Tom Sizemore played in "Blackhawk Down") at a big airsoft game a few years ago.
-Finally, I've met quite a few Texas political figures when they have come to tour one of th prisons I've worked at over the years including George W Bush when he was the governor.

I periodically go back to Jacksonville Florida to visit family and friends. I get in a game with an old friend at his house. I'm commenting on the absolutely beautiful terrain and armies that's he's accumulated. Lo and behold, Fred Reed moved into the area and games at my buddies house. My buddy commissioned Fred to paint up some of his armies. Sadly, I still haven't met Fred. I've loved his stuff since 2nd edition.

So both Peter Jackson and Robin Williams are gamers? Interesting. Jackson I could totally see. Williams, however, I have hard time believing he'd shut up long enough to actually play a game. Can you imagine playing him in a tourney and he starts in with his gay Cuban hairdresser bit?
