Forever alone

What's with its waist? It would be falling over all the time.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

I like it! I'm not a fan of the missiles or the melta or the storm bolter positions... but meh. Conversions : )

i think when i get this model i will replace those missiles with the missile pods off a terminator. i dont like how chunky and useless they look. i'll be buying this just for another dred. and paint it up as a techmarine dread (possibbly with servo arms folded up on its back

The newsletter clearly states that this will be a multi-part plastic kit with all the options from the marine codex.

It has the chainfist option. You can see one in the Planetstrike book.

Yup, it's plastic all right (always was).

Looks kind of gangly with the over-sized limbs. You'd think the extra armor would have made them go with a bulkier look.

Love it! The CC weapons can be swapped out for whatever you want, hell it's plastic. Put on the power snippers from the AOBR warbosses you all have laying around, or use the much nicer looking chainfist and don't call it a chainfist. If you aren't using the missiles, mount the melta and storm bolter up there over its shoulders! The "over the shoulder guns" look great, very battletech-like.

It's going to be the same price in metal or plastic, I'm sure.

Who said anything about price? After the plastic AoBR dread, I refuse to buy another dread in metal ever again, as it's no longer needed... and I hate metal models with a passion.

That's all I use. Metal models cost more at retail, but after a while, they enter the second hand market, and that's where I do my business. You can strip and repaint metal models all day long, but the plastic kits are harder to strip and almost impossible to break down.

When is it coming out? I like the missiles. I've been toying with an Ironclad spam list that all have 2 HK missiles for the first turn, 12 HK missile, alpha strike. If IG armor 12 lists take off, it might be worth investing.

Looks like a Tau Broadside Battle suit. The feet and torso in particular.

I much prefer Jes Goodwins "regular" plastic Dreadnought design, and or any of the FW dreads.

This one is very unbalanced and over the top, just for the sake of bigger = better.

It provides some great oportunities for conversions though, I wouldn't build it as it is from the box though.

You hit the nail on the head, whitedragon. That's exactly the reason I like it - it reminds me of weird, awkward Battletech/Robotech mechs. (Hm....now, why hadn't I thought of a Space Marine chapter painted up in Skull Squadron colors...black and white with yellow accents?)

I agree. Overall I don't like this model very much at all... maybe it's due to the longer limbs, but one way or another it doesn't look any sturdier or bulkier than a normal dreadnought. I hate the seismic hammer, and the HK missiles are very poorly designed on there. I hope it comes with many more options to make up for what the normal dreadnought lacks.

Why are they calling a badly done oil well drill bit a seismic hammer?

At least now I have a piece to use in my diorama of a group of rag-tag IG engineers who were sent to an Ork Rok to drill to its core and plant a melta charge before it slams into some planet.

Today I didn't even have to use my hot-shot las; I gotta say it was a good day.

I think a swap for the FW siege drill would make this thing look amazing, particularly in a "counts as" situation....

I remember seeing the CAD and being disappointed then too. I like the plating and the profile(sans the missile ears) but there are so many design stupidities here. Why not have some sort of observational scopes on the top of the dread on a rotating base so the thing can actually see more than 30 degrees in front of it? Why can't the meltagun be incorporated into the close combat weapon like Hurons flamer? That thing is going to get knocked off or squashed the instant the dread gets into a fight with something. The seismic hammer looks like a drill bit, not a hammer. I was desperately hoping for Big-O style piston fist, but the obvious (and cool, somewhat believable option did not happen.) The same that went for the melta goes for the bolter. You don't attach a gun to the business end of a smashy bit without at least trying to incorporate it in such a way that it won't get smashed. The legs are better, but they still need to be longer, especially to compensate for such huge feet.

THAT SAID, I still like things about this model, but there were a huge amount of missed opportunities that were replaced with bad decisions.

EDIT for failing at grammer

Plastic I would assume. Was spotted on CAD stuff, and I can't think of a vehicle made recently that was metal, not since the Venerable Dread.

I quite like it. Very Marine like in the single purposeness of it. It's not here the look good. It's here to stomp you and your girly buildings in a tiny splutchy pancake type shape.

Soviet Kanukistan

1. Take a great plastic model and make it sub-par in its codex.
2. Modify that great plastic model in to a blinged up disproportionate monstrosity.
3. ???
4. Profit!

This is only -slightly- less ugly than the metal Venerable dreadnought they put out. The worst part about it is how weedy its shoulders and hips look after they grotesquely oversized everything else. The limbs are far too detailed, the sarcophagus is way too bare of details, and the shoulder mounted gear is just silly looking. If it wasn't so much better than pretty much every other dreadnought in the game, it'd probably be another huge non-seller like his fugly infantry brothers, the Catachans.

I award this model 3 Fails out of 4!
