new dread = weak sauce
Looks like I'll be converting a FW dread.

It'll probably look better anyways...

At first glance I thought the HK's were either spotlights or hello kitty eyes. It seems like they're trying to mimic warmachine with those giant arms though. To me it doesn't look like a new sculpt, just a hacked up job of an old model.

4. Profit!

This is only -slightly- less ugly than the metal Venerable dreadnought they put out. The worst part about it is how weedy its shoulders and hips look after they grotesquely oversized everything else. The limbs are far too detailed, the sarcophagus is way too bare of details, and the shoulder mounted gear is just silly looking. If it wasn't so much better than pretty much every other dreadnought in the game, it'd probably be another huge non-seller like his fugly infantry brothers, the Catachans.

I award this model 3 Fails out of 4!

Note: With minimal trimming, you can fit the LC turrets from the baneblade kit over the plastic dread's arm pegs, and they actually come out looking pretty nice... since the kit is, itself, in plastic, It shouldn't be a problem to convert these things into something severely awesome-looking with minimal work.

That's a very good point. It doesn't take much to make ugly plastic look decent.

Doesn't look great but isn't too bad either. With some conversion, it can be really good to field.

All the options for the Ironclad, or all the options for the Dread (TL-Autocannons, Plasma Cannons, etc.)?

All the Ironclad options I'd expect.

Minus the odd one or two which usually annotate GW's definition of 'all'

If you want to convert off an expensive new kit, might as well as converting if off AOBR ones.

I've got two of the AOBR ones and while they're nice enough, the boxed plastic one is much better. At least if you buy one siege dred you'll have the arms for converting an AOBR dred into a second siege dred and sell your AOBR arms off to someone making a card dred.

I think it looks more lightweight than the standard dred. It looks 'stripped down' IMO and the front armour does seem tau-esque.

i wouldnt field it as an ironclad at all, keep the arms and get a FW body. Like i said before it would suit being a techmarine dread far more easily. At least it is plastic tho. i wont complain about that.

The Ironclad of course, the regular Dread can rot for all they care.

EXALT!

If one is replacing the Ironclad kits' oversized Popeye arms with the ridiculously huge weapon mounts, and his giant cartoon feet, then what is the point of buying the kit over a Black Reach cheapie!

ITT, people don't realize how ridiculous and unworkable the regular dread design is (it can barely move, and it's arms don't make sense), and how much of an improvement the legs and arms are on this new models.

Let's be honest Shummy, DoW did a pretty good job of taking what is a very clunky and illogical design and making it 'work' (as best as they could).

Honestly I don't mind this new Iconclad. The fact that it is all plastic makes it very attractive to someone who loves conversions, especially if it comes with all the Ironclad options. With any luck Forge World will make an alternate side Hurricane Bolter mount so I can have a dread with twin banks of Bolters (useless, yes, but damn that'd look cool!).

Yeah, the Seismic Hammer is a disappointment. I was hoping for mega Thunder Hammer. The feet are also really weird. I don't like the tau-esque lines, either. On the upside, it indicates a conversion won't have to do much. Add a bit of sarcophagus armor and a armor codpiece/tabard and you're there. Heck, they didn't even obscure the harness wiring on the sarcophagus!

I am pretty bummed about this too. I don't know what I was expecting body and armor wise, but I really wanted the seismic hammer to be either a piston driven, pneumatic penetration device of some sort, or a dreadnought sized thunderhammer with a bec-de-corbin. I didn't really expect a weapon that looks like you need to hold it in place while it gradually works its way in. That and the melta gun looks really awkward compared to the old Furisio version.

I might still buy one, since I sometimes like models better in person, but I am not as exceited as I was previously.

... I need to make a thunderhammer/storm shield dread. That would kick ass.

Love the ironclad
may have to make a small ironclad spam army now
they actually look like they can move about.

also, those HK missiles better not be fixed in place :K
they will get used as bitz.

The smaller wires have received armoured coverings but I guess they should all have been covered.

The seismic hammer does at least look like it's designed to destroy things through vibration rather than hulk smash but a drill bit would have been better I reckon.

I think that when most of us thought 'Seismic Hammer' we were thinking "Big Freaking Hammer" and not "Pneumatic Impact Hammer".

Its almost impossible for GW to make a decent iron clad imo without changing the structure beneath.

I mean it was already a box . How do you give more armor to a box without making it more boxy!

This is a fantastic idea! I am totally stealing it. It would be clear at first glance that it is better armored, the shield works as a DCCW, etc. Brilliant!

Not impressed. The only think I like about it is the arms. The body just looks too weedy to be AV13.

Nice of em to make a model for the Ironclad, but I already convert a black reach dread.

I'm actually curious if it actually comes with TWO heavy flamers for both arms.

I don't know if I am just so used to looking at the normal dreads, or if this Ironclad model really looks bad.

I don't really like it now, but I may like it after I play against some guy with 3 them smashing away at my army and fully painted.
