umm the plastics are the same price as the metals there replacing and infact more expensive.

Well are they the same or not? How can they be the same price but more expensive?

Me I'm totally quitting anything to do with GW.

I got (back, for the first time since RT) into 40k with 5th and have slowly been building up a Smurf force. But no longer. I *could* splurge on the plastics I want to take my 750 points to the next stage. But I'm not. Because at somepoint they will all be painted an then I will be facing a butt-reaming taking it on any further. I'm better off quitting 40k now before I go down that road.

And this has put the kai-bosh on WotR too. I have around 900 LotR models from the LotRSBG in my various storage boxes. I put them away when I decided I'd got bored with the old game a couple of years back. But have dug them out recently for the new game. Having played a couple of games I *was* going to pick a couple of my favourite forces and WotR-ify them (i.e bulk up the plastic troop components, and buy the odd extra hero model, to make them effective 1000 point forces.) But no longer. To coin a phrase "sod that for a game of soldiers".

This price rise was no surprise - its in the May WD. And I had been prepared to swallow a quid or 2 on a box. But £5 on a £15 box! 33%!!!! FFS!! That is just absolutely outrageous even for GW.

They make me want to puke, they really do.

Sod them. Sod the lot of them!

Nerd rage FTW!

Cheers

In all the years I've been playing GW has never done a price decrease. It will not happen. Ever.

GW have recently decrease their price *supposedly .

here it comes..... wait for it....

They "lowered" the price for the Cadian boxes

Well GW is pretty silly imo they guess most of us never took grade school math?

The "box" IS cheaper. It's just the contents that aren't.

If you've got a multi-year backlog of stuff to build & paint, and are only waiting for "mega" releases like a plastic Warhound / Revenant / Cobra / Scorpion, then this isn't such a big deal.

It's not mysterious how inflation works. However it's quite mysterious how people think it works, especially in relation to materials like plastic and metals. Threads like this amuse me.

holy gak, inflation's at 33%, I'd better start buying wheelbarrows before they're more expensive than the cash you stuff them with

This is a perfect example of actual inflation vs peoples "understanding" of the term.

No. A better way to stimulate the economy is to invest the money into something productive. If you spend money of cheap junk from China (or in this case the UK) all you're doing is adding to the trade deficit.

If you really wanted to stimulate the economy, you'd take that money, invest it in starting your own company (probably by pooling with others, or buying shares of someone else who has a good idea), hire staff, buy machinery and equipment, and, you know, actually produce/contribute something rather than just consume.

Saying spending on foreign imports for your hobbies stimulates the economy is akin to saying eating Big Macs stimulates your heart.

I know what you mean. After all, we all like GW. Their prices are fair and their rules are good too.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

Materials cost inflation, fuel cost inflation, and currency inflation:

Now adding!

Trade imbalances and national debt.

£20 for 24 figures seems ok to me (shame it's LotR stuff).

£15 for 10 Cadians and £25 for a Squad of space Marines is a bit of a joke.

If I bought this stuff I'd be really upset.

So £25 per tac squad, feth that, works out at £2.50 per model!
you can buy blister packs of models for £6 for 3.

looks like DKOK will soon be the cheap guard to collect lol

but my parents wont let me buy stuff from ebay

Unless they simply don't want to let you order things online at all, you could just order directly from their website.. www.maelstromgames.co.uk (or http://www.wargamesempire.com , they seem cheap as well).

The issue is the problem is like petrol/cigarettes/whatever (to gamers at least!).

If you are interested in the hobby you will buy the models whatever the price (within reason).

I think if the plastics are going up to £15 then this is a disgusting increase. I bought 20 Cadians for £18 about 6 months ago - now they are selling 10 for £15?/ wtf

The issue will be more of a long term thing - I rarely buy models these days as I have such a back catalogue of stuff to paint. However, when these are finished, I will just buy much cheaper stuff from other companies (which are sometimes much better scultps too). The only GW tourny I ever go to is the GT and i already have armies for this....

Long term gamers will hate GW more and more and buy less and less.. Kids will pretty much always buy the stuff.

To be honest, I am surprised another company is not targetting a similar market as GW has very little competition in the younger gaming field. I suppose it would take a massive cash influx to compete but I think they could clean up vs GWs overpriced models and systems.

Please see my new 40k blog. I have joined the 21st Century!

Apparently as the rumour goes all boxes are seeing a 5-25% increase, blisters are going down and paints are going down.

As for the reason to the increase its to pay for the raises of redshirts.

GW has gotten rid of all of its part timers and have put into action a training system where the red shirts will get a raise every 3 months after completing a training session, after 2 years they will be able to manage their own store and will be making roughly $15-18/hr which is a huge increase for them.

So the moral of the story is; next time you buy a box from your LGS remember you're paying more so little jimmy ADD at the games workshop store you'll never go to is getting better service from the redshirts.

Rick Priestley said it best:
Bryan always said that if the studio ever had to mix with the manufacturing and sales part of the business it would destroy the studio. And I have to say – he wasn’t wrong there! The modern studio isn’t a studio in the same way; it isn’t a collection of artists and creatives sharing ideas and driving each other on. It’s become the promotions department of a toy company – things move on!

The problem with getting 12 year olds turned on to wargames isn't the prices it's the marketing.

GW have had a lock on the 12-year old boy market for nearly 20 years. All their friends play GW games. There's a GW shop in the high street of many towns, or at least nearby (in the UK anyway.) And GW games are full of kewl stuff like shouty marines with chainswords, or Chaos warriors with giant axes, and spells that blow people up and so on. On top of all that the rules are pretty simple to learn.

Any company that tries to compete in that market has a big job to do.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.
