Does that mean people at your store try to get girls to hold their dice bags?

Yeah its kind of sad that both Dave Arneson and Gary Gygax are dead.

If I lose it is because I had bad luck, if you win it is because you cheated.

It almost seems like certain of my models are cursed. My Lash Prince always dies on the second round of combat and never kills anything. In two years I've never once rolled Repair on a Rhino. Anytime I use a Dreadnought it dies the first shot against it.

I have a friend that swears that shooting is more accurate if you paint in the lenses on your models (works for him, too...)

Personally I "chaos load" my dice. If I am just sitting them on the table I have the number I usually don't want facing up (i.e. ones up in 40K, 6's up for a system like GURPS). They roll better for me when I do that.

And never ever tell me that the roll/chop I'm making is a critical one. It just ensures that it gets blown.

Its simple: overspecialize and you breed in weakness. It's slow death.

No way! Tau die by the squad. I just don't run Raiders. Multi-melta attack bikes and Drop pod Sternguard with combi-meltas are my preferred method of dealing with railguns. And combined they cost less than Terminators and the Land Raider.

I don't really have any superstitions.

My dice follow the rules of statistical probability (allowing for Standard deviations and another factor that cannot be precisely calculated - luck.).

If my opponent insists on using my scatter die, it will roll close to maximum scatter in a direction not conducive to his unit survival (one did this just this past sunday. Used my die for the scatter for his GK terminators. They scattered off table and he rolled a 1 for the DSM using one of the two dice I pair with it for scatter.)

They work well for me otherwise.

Touch formica.

I once prayed at Church for my bad dice.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

Space Marine Whirlwinds, even a battery of them, cannot hit a dang thing... unless it's between 18-24" of them. Then suddenly the dice start rolling good.

Example: A group of Chaos Terminators came in behind the Whirwinds and they managed to take down all but one of the Termies. Meanwhile every other time they've ever fired at something, line of sight or not they drift so much or the roll is so bad no damage had ever been dealt by them. Caiphus Cain of friggin' heavy support.

When it comes to dice I roll better right handed and have to be able to to a group of dice with just the one hand otherwise I don't feel in control of them and the roll sucks.

I also do better when people tell me I can't win.

Also I've carried the same blue d6 in my left pant pocket since 1995. It gives me +1 nerdiness.

i also know a guy who never played without getting 5 mins too pray :S also here are some other notes ( from me )

Always whas your dices with a sink of yours before playing a game

Never make "funny" jokes as : What are you gonna say if i roll a 1 . Or : And here come my 6's !

Never try too get a teammate that has never played the game before

Calculate your odds before starting

Calculate your points value at home

The more work you put into your model(paint/convertions etc) the better it will do

Painted models performe better than unpainted ones, but the first battle for a newly painted model ends in death or destruction. I have never had a new model survive it's first game.

* Never say "anything but a one" or "I need a 6"
* Always jangle the dice in your hand. Not a pot.
* Your newest unit will always feth up horrendously.
* Don't use up all your sixes. Sometimes this can't be avoided, but with the new Rending rules you'll see a lot of people accidentally using up all their sixes on the to hit roll. As the dice have used up the sixes, you're less likely to rend. Also T4+ enemies sometimes need a 5 or a 6 to wound, so don't use up your sixes on to shoot.

If you see the sixes on To Hit, you know your fethed for the To Wound

I have one that I believe should be a universal no-no for all gamers. Never ever, ever say, "Anything but a one". You are nearly guranteend to roll a . I have learned this the hard way throughout the years: Inner Circle knights, Dwarf Lords, are even more prone to this phenomenon.

Other ones I have personally:
*Characters (other than mages) die horrible deaths outside of units
*Melta weapons (though awesome) seem to never hit when I use them
*Power Fists=a maximum of 50% successful to-hit rolls
*If I play other people and they choose to run, their models become Kenyans and will roll 5s and 6s for their run dice.
*The more time I spend on a model (conversions and painting) equals epic failure on their first outing. This led me to a temporary hiatus in the use of the Empire Steam tank, Leadbelchers, and any special characters.

The prouder you are of a paintjob on a model, the worse it will do.
Ork PK nobs actually only have one attack, the others are decoys that only EVER roll 1 or 2.

One of my good gaming buddies always picks dice the opposite of what he needs, if he needs to roll high he'll pick out the 1's and roll them, for low he'll get the sixes out and roll with them.

Not just 40k/WFB - but for ALL tabletop games.

The newest/shiniest/most recently painted model/unit is the one that will get wiped off the table first to the luckiest of dice rolls. The more recently painted the model, the worse my luck will be.

My nice new, shiney, just painted that afternoon, Iron Dwarf Heavy Cruisers died to blummin' Dragon Lord Frigate fire last Thursday... Frigate fire! I ask you! He had to roll something like three 6's on 5 dice to even scratch the paint work, and he managed to blow BOTH of them up!

The best dice superstition I have ever seen was a FLGS Ork player. He would take the most consistently unlucky dice out of his dice bag, and smash them with a hammer. He would then proceed to gather up the pieces and glue them back together in a rough manner, to clearly show that they were badly damaged. Then, at the start of each game, he would set them next to the rest of his dice, with a little painted sign that said "The Price of Failure".

He felt it motivated his dice to roll better, on pain of death.

I've debated modelling a commissar hat for my dice for just such a purpose....

1) If I ever need a 2+ to do anything in 40K I always roll a 1. Terminator saves 1s BS 5 Melta Pistol Shots 1s, powerfists 1s.

2) Rolling lots of dice always gets me better results than just rolling 1.

3) My imperial guard models never fail leadership tests from shooting, because if they do I put them away and re paint a whole new squad. Puts a whole new spin on summary execution.

4) My friend plays a vulkan army specifically because he has worst rolling ever. Twin Linking helps modify bad luck

Mine only concern dice.

- Never touch my dice . Mainly cause they are mine not yours. Bring your own and if you forgot, then go and buy some. Also its cause i dont want your grubby, unlucky, not sure where they have been hands touching them.

- I always will use new dice for each thing im doing. Ex: 10 shots roll 10 dice. 3 wounds require 3 new dice not the ones i rolled for the shots. Now i dont mean i buy new dice just new dice from the same brick just to be clear.

- Dice can and will be fired for performing poorly.

- I always buy new dice for a new army. A nice set to match the color or theme of the army.

- Never combine sets of dice in the same container. They can be rolled together just not stored together. Also i dont leave them in the container during the game always have 2 different piles on the table.

This is silly! Buttons are not how one escapes dungeons! I would smash the button and rain beatings liberally down on the wizard for playing such a trick!

I always use a different color dice to represent a sergeant or IC's shots or CC attacks (even if they are the same as others being rolled). They always perform better when held accountable for their own action.

1 mortar will always roll a hit, a unit of 3 will always scatter maximum distance in the wrong direction.

And the dice that come with GW starter sets always roll fantastically. I became very tough to beat after I traded my cube of mini chessex dice for a few sets of starter set dice.
