I'm in a Blood Bowl league and one thing I know to be true is that painted miniatures always do better than unpainted ones. That's always been true, regardless of the game.
Last season, my minis were unpainted and I ended up at W3-T0-L3 (and I was bloody lucky to break even). Between seasons, I painted the team. This season, so far, I'm at W4-T0-L1. Much better (and against some tougher teams too).

The first time you field the freshly-painted unit, it will be destroyed in a humiliating fashion.
You can jinx your opponent by saying "Anything but a one!" just as they roll the dice.
Your dice get tired. You should swap them out when they start to roll poorly.
Threatening your dice does not help.
Always buy ugly dice. Pretty dice think it's enough that they look good; ugly dice put out.

There's a saying at my LGS, "Touching another man's dice is like touching his balls."
There are so many superstitions in gaming and I would wager that 90% involve dice. I've seen people mid-game walk up to the counter and spend $30 on new dice because they thought their old ones were rolling poorly.
Personally, I don't buy into superstition stuff. Not seriously, anyway.

If you paint your minis with your own blood, they'll do more damage.
If you're play O&G, saw off a goblin's head with a craft knife as a sacrifice to Mork before the game to get better rolls.
Masturbate over your Slaaneshi daemons to make them stronger.
You can make your penis bigger by winning a tournament.
If you kill someone with a chainsaw before the game, all your models wielding chain-weapons are stronger.
|
People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made. |

- Call them "rocket launchers" not "missile launchers" because they'll hit more often if "miss" isn't in the name. This way they'll hit about 1/5 times instead of 1/8 times.
- You never touch another man's dice. If you roll said dice, start praying.
- Chessex dice roll more 1's than any other dice.
- The more you like that IC leading your army and the more effort you put into modeling/painting him, the more pathetic his death will be.

If you refuse to let me roll your dice, or you choose your "lucky" dice for certain rolls, I prefer that you put your dice away and play with my dice on the table.
I never say "Anything but a 1" on a roll for fear of jinxing it. I always say instead "On a two up."
I shake all my dice two handed before throwing them. But this is more of a etiquette thing, so I get a proper randomized roll.

There's a guy at our club who is so unlucky with dice that if another member is having a bad day you will hear the shout or, "Steve did you look at my dice!?" I swear the the only fix for them, if he's touched then or been close to them, is to get a priest in to throw some holy water about

Live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart. Trouble no one about his religion. Respect others in their views and demand that they respect yours. Love your life, perfect your life. Beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long and of service to your people. When your time comes to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song, and die like a hero going home.

I never use missle launchers in any of my lists, as all the years I have played I have never managed to hit a single thing with them.
I have lucky die that I set aside during the course of the game for important rolls.
I use giant dice for my Baneblade, just cause.
Dice that roll bad get set aside as unlucky that game and aren't used.
Touch my minis without asking and you liable to be stabbed with a hobby knife or get a broken hand, I'm always afraid the moment so one picks up without asking their going to drop it on the ground.
I talk to my die during the game.
I also feel that I can sometimes predict the die roll. I have done it a number of times and gotten it right, several times in a row as well.

Rolling dice one at a time as opposed to all at once. Sometimes it is beneficial for some reason or another to roll a unit's shots or attacks individually, but i'm always shaking with fear as I do it, because it feels like you are dooming yourself as you fail rolls one after another...

A long time ago in a gaming shop far far away a local gamer made a statue of one of those fat chinese guys sitting in the lotus position with his palms resting on his knees facing up; he placed two small dice with the ones being on top and painted the whole thing gold. This was the Buhda.
So when someone was going to roll we would say Buhda Buhda Buhda to invoke his wrath on the player.
Also, dont touch my dice...
Not really a superstition but I hate people touching my dice.
edit:
Oh and if you get the makers of the game to roll your dice they will intrinsically roll better; I know alot of people have gotten Dave Arneson the maker of D and D to roll their dice and bless them I am not joking. Hell I did it at Coastcon he is more than happy to bless your dice.
I guess the same could be said of the Makers of GW and 40k but this is something I have heard more than one gamer claim to have done.

Based on D&D/ RPG rather than wargaming, but most still applies:

Making the wrong gun-sound will jinx your rolls (Never go "pew pew pew" when firing Shootas! or "dakkadakkadakka" for your lascannons!)
If I keep a couple of "Broken trukk" craters handy, I won't need them until turn 4, but if I leave them on the shelf, I'll be reaching for them on turn 2.
