looks interesting at least. The "new" hull seems like it takes a bit more from the Russ hull in terms of styling.
Looking forward to seeing more. Is a new Chimera in the works as well?

I feel like I've been owned since I recently bought 8 of the current Chimeras. Oh well. Live and learn. The new model is a vast improvement to the current Hellhound. I still prefer the FW version though. I like the idea of presenting an obivious weakness to the enemy and not giving a darn about it.

Looks pretty good, fluffwise it's a smaller variant sharing much of the Chimera hull, which makes sense. So I guess we have at least two kits to look forward to - this one, and the 'normal' Chimera (presumably recut with new weapon options etc). And just maybe one with some of the heavy support variants, e.g. a multiple-choice artillery version would be fairly easy? - or maybe they'll leave all that to Forgeworld...

Looks awesome.
Will there be a new Leman Russ model? I just bought one thinking that the 'new' Leman Russ kit was just the current one with new turret options. But that's what I thought with the hellhound. I think the Leman Russ seriously needs a do-over - it's ooooooooold and looks too WWI for me. But just curious anyway.

I like it. Not as much as the Forgeworld one, but as has been stated already it is a vast improvement over the current model.
I wonder though, does anyone know if the barrel ends are modular like the ones on the Stormlord? It looks like there's a possibility that they are.

Is this the first time GW has put out pictures with a modular turret?
Cuz that is the same hellhound hull and turret with different gun ends in each photo.
Notice the metal flake on the hull and hte highlighting on the barrel base are identical.
I do not remember them ever releasing promo photos that used swappable parts.
I think it looks fine, adn has to be cheaper than the FW counterparts.
My cynical side notices that it was held back until the price increase.

This is a solid match for the CAD renderings, and that's a real disappointment.
There's nothing "Fast" about it at all, nor obviously better-armored on the sides. The turret and weapons are extremely uninspired, the "Banewolf" gun, in particular is an embarrassment.
By comparison, the FW designs are far superior, oversized rear fuel tank and all. Why, after demonstrating that they can convert the FW Vindicator and FW Valkyrie *exactly* into plastic, GW had to go with this particular design boggles the mind.
However, the rear compartment is especially intriguing and puzzling. If you remove the Hellhound Turret & forward mount, along with the rear deck plate, I wonder: does that convert into a Salamander or Griffon?
Anyhow, I am not at all impressed, and very glad that I scratchbuilt my Hellhounds.

I agree. I actually like the old HH better then this. I'm also willing to bet they modify the design 'just enough' so that Chimeras can't be made into HH with bits unless you do mad greenstuffing.

Unless of course they don't give those newly-sculpted side panels to Chimeras. Besides, the Space Marine vehicles already have variable armour values with he same exact chassis, so I refuse to get bent out of shape by this.

Wasn't it to be expected? Why do a CAD and don't stick with?
JohnHwangDD wrote:There's nothing "Fast" about it at all, nor obviously better-armored on the sides. The turret and weapons are extremely uninspired, the "Banewolf" gun, in particular is an embarrassment.
But the FW salamander IS fast?
I think those tanks eat up less space than a passenger compartment, therefore easier to "tune its engine".
Engine overheat isn't an issue on a flamer tank with a pyromaniac crew.
Sadly GW's gun design is uninspired like a mechanicus servitors dreams in the last vehicle designs (some shadowsword variants ).
Having full plastic kits may spare us time to convert them to better ones.
I'm really happy with a redone chimera chassis. Looks like they dropped the old sprues to add some variants from C: IG.
Can't wait to find out what the other plastic tanks are.
JohnHwangDD wrote:By comparison, the FW designs are far superior, oversized rear fuel tank and all. Why, after demonstrating that they can convert the FW Vindicator and FW Valkyrie *exactly* into plastic, GW had to go with this particular design boggles the mind.
This "barrel of wine" mounted on the back is superior?
All historic flamer tanks had armored tanks, why should GW keep those russian style nonsense?
GW may convert FW designs, but never admits to do so for coming releases.
Refused to admit to change the Whirlwind ( seen before in DoW ) or the vindicator ( seen before as Epic model ),still clouded what gets
moved from FW to GW plastic.
JohnHwangDD wrote:However, the rear compartment is especially intriguing and puzzling. If you remove the Hellhound Turret & forward mount, along with the rear deck plate, I wonder: does that convert into a Salamander or Griffon?
The old unused parts of the chimera hint on old variants, so possible to assume we get at least the artillery tanks with new cimera chassis. Slamander isn't part of C: IG, but good question how compatible GW keeps their kits with FW.
Since GW promotes FW's vulture conversion kit in the apoc datasheets its almost sure plastic and FW upgrades stay compatible.

While the weapon design is a little disappointing the idea of an internal fuel tank makes sense and at least in my eyes makes the model look better. Way better than the previous GW version and the variants out by FW.

The slimmed side panels aren't bad, but nothing to get excited over.
Oddly, the SM Vindie actually has additional armor panels (though GW keeps the AV the same as the Pred, which doesn't...).

Yes, expected *and* disappointing, like a GW price increase or SM sub-Codex update.

The FW salamander is much less bulky than the Chimera, so it looks a little faster.
Yup.
The new side panels are OK, as above, but the real question is whether they fixed the wheels & tracks to be Baneblade-style.

It looks faster and sleeker than the actual model, which is still a brick. With an even larger turret.
Yup.
It's too bad the FW Hyperios didn't become the new Whirlwind.

I liked the old school helhound, though only because it did sometyhing about the fugly lasgun ports and became a way of using a single Chimera hull in my army. i liked the foreworld fuel tank on tracks, and i like this.
Spoilt for choice really.... But above all that I am a cheapskate when it comes to shelling out on models, I need to be to get all I want at a price I can afford. Good yes, but not good enough to get me to replace my old skool Hellhound, and way behind command squads, a Shadowsword, two Stompas and a whole Vampire Counts army on the to-get list. So thumbs up for the kit but I won't be buying.

All jokes aside, the turret looks like they took a page from the plastic superheavy kit- one barrel with a modular front bit that makes it a different vehicle.
