I have trouble imagining the bean-counters would let them release anything that competed with anything they are currently selling. Like when I was trying to get metal daemonettes last year, it took me months to win an auction on ebay because they were so in demand that the bidding would usually run well over double the original cost of the unit. So while there's obviously a demand, anyone who *needs* daemonettes can buy the new ones, and re-releasing the old daemonettes makes GW compete with itself. For a company that's about pushing the highest quality product they can this would be a good way to tell that a new release isn't as good as an old release, but for a company trying to squeeze every penny out of their customers, it doesn't make much sense.

"White Lions: They're Better Than Cancer!" is not exactly a compelling marketing slogan. - AlexHolker

Well I imagine the "bean counters" will allow redundant models to be released if they are sold for more than the standard models. Just look at the metal imperial guardsmen that are available.

I loved that model for doing conversions. Albeit the pilots sucked. I just like the novelty of the figure.

Their old stuff is so cool! I loved their old plastics.

Genestealers, Genestealer cultists, old plastic Terminators, plastic Necromunda figs, Gorkamorka orks... oh and their Adeptus Titanicus plastics!

great stuff. I'm a big fan of old plastics.

aka_mythos wrote: You obviously haven't worked in any industry that does injection molding.... I have. Those things are heavy requiring special arrangements for storage and require a degree of care irregardless of use. Just storing them you have to regularly oil an care for molds or they rust or deteriorate to a point of being unusable. One reason GW killed the bits selling was because alot of the older molds were dying and they could justify redoing all of them, thus it isn't as simple as just pulling off a dusty shelf of unlimited holding a mint condition 20 year old mold. They will likely make a single new mold for each model and run it till the mold dies. Even just retooling the old injection molds, the plastics would require a quantity exceeding a couple thousand to justify the cost.

And you obviously only work with metal moulds. Not every injection moulding business uses metal, i know where i used to work used hard silicon moulds, they don't require lifting agents, and are much cheaper than metal moulds, also require less upkeep. Also there is no detail loss while working with them, if you use them correctly. So GW could quite possibly just have old moulds sitting there waiting for a bit of injection love, who knows.

Old model wise, all the old lesser daemon models would be nice, the guitar totting noise marines would be fun

GW has only ever used metal molds for their plastic kits. Every publication they've had describing their process has said so. Injection molding by its definition would require a mold made of metal. The pressures would generally exceed the capabilities of rubber. Unless your company is using some exotic proceedure, or simply pouring a resin into a rubber mold it is unlikely your company is using injection molding. A 10-15 ton press is required to keep the sort of molds GW has shown pictured closed while the heated plastic is forced into the cavity. A rubber mold would deflect and destort the cavity under even the lightest injection molding machines' presses tonnage.
