Jab that is the best way of doing it, gets rid of those half an hour arguments about whether you hit 3 or 4 men with that blast template, or whether that tank gets a cover save etc.

main ones we use:
KP based upon cost of unit:
50pts. or less= .5KP
51-100Pts.= 1 KP
101-150pts.= 1.5KP
etc.

That's quite cool. One we used in a campaign was variable KP depending on what choice the squad was from.
HQ = 5
Troop = 2
Other = 1
Then this changed in some missions in the campaign, so in some troops would be worth none, but Elites would be worth 2 or 3 . . . definitely makes the games more interesting.

Think that would be cool? Because we are in the process (the very long, slow process) of typing it up and we have been thinking of putting it out to the fan community. Not sure if that'd annoy GW though. Intellectual property etc.
Basically, we've accumulated so many house rules over the years that we couldn't keep track. So we decided to write a new rulebook with all our changes written in. It's based on third, with certain parts rephrased, contradictions deleted, rules we didn't like slightly altered, rules we like from other editions put in, and a whole load of our own house rules for things the ordinary rules don't cover.

In our 'group' we play by the rulebook until we get to a situation not explained (or just not explained well enough,) then we make up a house rule for it.

I only use the official rules, because the people who want to adapt them are usually trying to overpower themselves or weaken you, in my experience that is at gw manchester there's a list called gaming etiquette, and it says if you don't know a rule: 1) check your rule book 2) ask a member of staff 3) let the dice gods decide (4+) it also says don't pick up someone else's models incase they're wet, fragile or prone to spontaneous combustion, but that's hardly relevant

Depends. If we have some kind of special event (Apoc, P-Strike, etc.) I'll write up a custom scenario. When it comes to rules arguments, I usually concede. I'd rather give TFG his win so I can leave rather than drag my proverbial arse through wet cement.

I always use the 'reroll cocked dice' rule and we improvise on rules that arent well written, or sound weird. Like jab said the '4+ my rule' house rule is often applied.

We lost tons of players and I am not sure it was due to 5th edition, House rules disputes, game store rulings/management of game, or a combination of the above. We are down to about 5 players from 25, so we now do tons of house rules to mod the games and make them interesting. It has only brought one new player to stay. Not very encouraging to say the least.

Battleforge Games in Austin is where I play most recently and it can be a pretty serious sport there, so it's mostly official FAQ's with the occasional campaign with special rules. The Bell makes their own codexes, but I've only seen them used in campaigns.
I also wrote in "Other" because I can usually convince people to use terrain with an on the spot special rule. Special terrain adds flavor to the game.

Just things to do with cover saves, scenario's and moving vehichles really. Tanks should be able to move in banana fashion! None of this only pivoting once nonsense. Why dont people like 5th edition? To me it makes so much more sense than any of the others. And if people left your club because of GW bringing out a new edition then again, that doesnt make sense. Its not as if theyre moving on to a 5th edition free world outside your club! lol

we play with house rules that make more logical sense, my favorite one is that blasts actually kill the models directly undderneath them, but if a hit is rolled, they scatter d6 centimeters and rolling to would is normal, except that the model under the hole are automatically killed if the weapon is S8 or higher, invuln saves only, and always doubles out.

We miss some of the old edition rules of declaring shooting at the beginning of the turn. It's more tactical and doesn't lead to such a slap dash series of events which make less sense in war.
So we still play the declare all targets before shooting rules as house rules

Sometimes, depending on the game.
When I played Heroclix we used the 'Highlander' rule for non generics (with a few exceptions, such as Iron Man, but they all had to be different Iron Men, no dupes of the same piece).
We also had the unwritten rule of 'keep it friendly'. So no uber cheese teams, but come with a theme and play for fun.
When I played Mech Warrior, from the begining we had a house rule that tanks/mechs could move half distance and shoot.
Mostly we don't use a lot of house rules, or complicated ones, but occasionally we toss them in.

House rules only for necrons as far as I know to make them more like their fluff as in have them infiltrate and just a few minor changes to their codex to make it more enjoyable.
Note the rules are not to make them op but to make it fun and only if the opponent is ok with it otherwise no.
And ya dice off the table dont count.
