My first squad were Khorne Berzerkers. I sprayed them too thickly with black, used blood red as the base color and used a blow dryer to help it dry faster >.< I then used a silver and a gold paint pen to accent. It was pretty nasty.

Well (sadly) none of earliest efforts survive to this day but I have had some real doozies arrive in various job lots bought from Ebay including a horrific early Furioso Dreadnought which looked like it been immersed in a bucket of red paint. Took me about a month to strip it using some pretty heavy duty thinners!

The first model I painted was a dwarf - I was looking for figures to represent my RPG characters. That model wasn't so bad, really (just to give you some idea of when I started collecting; back then a dwarf or other single fantasy figure would cost you 60p!)
Like I said, the dwarf was not so bad. I then branched out into converting, and did a terrible hackjob on a barbarian figure. He was a muscley human wearing a loin cloth and a winged helmet, with a double-handed sword.
I used milliput to give him full chain armor and a cloak - and had very little idea of what I was doing. The end result was educational - but not beautiful.

Hmmm something is going on here.....Oh.... it seems there is some dispute over video taping of some sort......Frazz is really upset now..........wait a minute......whats he go there.......is it? Can it be?....Frazz has just unleashed his hidden weiner dog from his mini bag, while quoting shakespeares "Let slip the dogs the war!!" GG

FudgeDumper - It could be that you are just so uncomfortable with the idea of your chapters primarch having his way with a docile tyranid spore cyst, that you must deny they have any feelings at all. |

I keep my first 60 RT era space orks untouched to remind me how far I have come with painting. (also nostalgia reasons)
The plasma cannon Ork sort of up close.
Yes they are on a vomit world, still can't believe I based them like that. Hey it was 1987, thats my excuse.

I don't have the poor guy anymore, but my very first paintjob ever was an old Chaos Beastmen model, where they are single-pose casts where you just glued the shield on. I was a kid and had no idea what inks were or the concept of highlighting/drybrushing, so I tried painting the crevasses manually. Basically, it was solid black outlining on every muscle striation, it was just lolworthy, but I was so proud of it back then.
Wish I kept him. I traded that whole regiment off last year.

A little context
This was one of my first conversions, way back from the dim dark days of 2nd Ed. My main opponent at the time played Eldar, hence the trophy - designed more to annoy him than for any kind of background reason.
Shall we explore the travesty a little more?
The 'gem' (meant to be a captured spiritstone) probably fell off one of my sister's toys at some point, and was more than likely pink, hence the paintjob. The streamers from the bannerpole are magnesium strips I pinched from school during that experiment everyone does when they burn magnesium. The eldar corpse was the old 'everyone has the same pose' 2nd Ed guardian, which was missing its arms and a head. I replaced the arms with cunningly carved bits of sprue - I bet you couldn't even tell, right? Yes, the bolt pistol is held on with straps made of paper, no I don't know how he's supposed to reach it either.
I'm going to be honest. I love everything about this miniature.
Damn it i didn't realize how old this thread was goddammit

I tried something new with this guy and I just failed to execute the idea in my head. I wanted to try some recess shading with some oil paints to give a glow effect and it did not go the way I wanted to. I'm genuinely tempted to prime over it and start again.
