Depends which Jesus you're referring to. There's the one that hates gays, the one that hates wargaming but is ok with gays, and the one that's cool with both gays and wargaming. The latter is better to have at a party.

I find it interesting that the author feels that this is a newly discovered "Danger to Children". To me, her writing style points out that she is the first to have UNCOVERED a evil corporation trying to steal away our young impressionable minds(In reality it's only their pocket money). Don't you think that if this theme had any merit it would have been picked up in mainstream media? Don't you think Barbara Walters and the folks on 60 minutes would have addressed this? NOT EVEN STEPHEN COLBERT OR JOHN STEWART HAVE TOUCHED THIS SHTUFF! It's not "Big new's" because it isn't news.
I remember in her original post she stressed that we need to protect ourselves from "The government". With what? Guns? Violence begets violence, and handing your 7 year old a rifle won't stop your income tax increases.
PBS BLog
Adults aren't very likely to be affected one way or the other in terms of violent imagery and themes in gaming, but kids definitely are.
Sounds like some well researched information, the only research that was pulled was some random articles from the old GW website. Most of the complaints was in the wording of describing space marines. Which leads me to my next point.....
This person has no idea of what 40k is! They have no concept of the real fluff or they could have easily mentioned far more heavy topics such as the Inquisition and Exterminatus! But no, they spend all of their time on some of the afore mentioned articles that were in place to push product. Shpace Marineez and such.
No where in the article is it mentioned the hobby and social aspect of wargaming. I suppose those are just death cult gatherings?

There seemed to be an underlying theme of it having been manufactured to breed a new generation of Space Marinesque soldiers.
Which is even funnier.

What?! Black Leaf forgot to "move forward. Check for Traps."? What a useless player. You'd think the DM would've let her role a percentile at least instead of unilaterally offing her. Why doesn't her friend cut her down, she's still swinging? And that DM is way too hot and thin to be playing D&D. That cartoon is the fantasy.
On an aside, was Tom Hanks in an anti-D&D/roleplaying made for TV movie in the early 80s? Like '82 ish?

I don't recall the owner of that site claiming Christianity at all. I thought they were more of a left wing hippy type?

I assume Christ could attempt to speak to any human he chose to regardless of if they believed or not?
Also they discuss the SM term "angels of Death" to be offensive. To Christians I assume?

This is hilarious and I go to church...
I do have to say one thing about it, though. Having left a group which controls people's lives, relationships with friends/family, money, etc. just over a year ago, what scares me is not a silly hobby like this (which I enjoy). What scares me is people who throw the name "god" around, and use it to make other people do things that they want. That really, really scares me... because people are OK with disagreeing with other people, but when you throw "god" into it, all of a sudden you "can't" disagree anymore.
That's why I like that old star trek (episode? movie?) that ends with Captain Kirk demanding "What does 'god' need with a starship?". They'd been completely taken in by this alien thing pretending to be their creator... when really it just wanted their ship to get off the planet.
Sadly, that's how many of these things are... all about the money, or worse, whatever they can get from you...
Sorry if that's a bit OT! Just struck a nerve

The person who wrote this *IS* a nut-case.
If any of you read the original article (some months ago I believe) he/she/it speculated (seriously) that space marines were a way of brainwashing kids into joining the US army to offer themselves as military experiments or some bollocks.

Oh man that Jack Chick tract is a blast from the past! I used to collect those in church as a kid b/c it was the first cool artwork I was exposed to. And by exposed I mean I grew up in a Fundamentalist home (complete with NO devil TV ha ha), and even comic books were a no-no. But those tracts had some crazy art for a ten-year-old (I'm mid-thirties now). Nowadays I look back and those tracts definitely got me into comic books which got me into art.
I also remember a policeofficer/speaker coming to my church and warning parents about D&D games- I still remember sitting in church and thinking, "WOW THAT GAME SOUNDS AWESOME!! - WHERE CAN I GET ME SOME OF THAT?!" So church got me into Warhammer for sure. I wonder if that's why I like playing Daemonhunters... and why I am so scared of playing against Daemons? (I only mention that he was a police officer b/c he said police in central NJ had found a group of teenagers battling it out in some dark alley somewhere with chainmail & swords.)
As to the larger discussion of this website, I gotta ask: Is this PBS blog related to the PBS channel in the US?
As to the Christianity related stuff, my 2 cents are I'm a born again Christian and I sit in church sometimes and can't believe the wackiness I see & hear and other times I sit there amazed at how cool people are. That's what makes us people; we're all pretty wacky & cool.
