I hate when people feel the need to offload their shot comings and inability to parent their children onto other means as to not make it their own damn fault for being piss poor parents.

I hope they never manage to make it back.

I just love how the guy says stuff like
"But this subject will be addressed. It's too important."
and
"Some don't want this subject looked at, at all. That is something we can't fix. We're looking at it."
It's like he/she thinks Wargaming is a huge conspiracy with a deep, dark secret and that they're doing Watergate-level investigative reporting. Get over yourself please.

Although biased the article did raise some valid points. With the age of gamers ever getting lower they are being exposed to a game that puts racism and intolerance in a positive light. The "good guys" are constantly trying to kill things that are different from themselves be they different by race, mutation or creed. Obviously most of us can take it all with a pinch of salt but to the younger folk it may not be so cut and dry.

I'm happy to see that they are trying to redo the article with a more objectionable standpoint. I have even contacted them and offered my help with it being someone who started the hobby when I was 6-7 years old.

It's funny how GW have made their stuff more Grimdark than ever while pitching it to younger audiances. They've removed a lot of the colourful wacky fun stuff and now it's mostly bald shouty men and purity seals. Admittedly they've slimmed it a bit the other way too though. Some of the more adult things have been swept away, Fimir don't exist now, possibly because according to the fluff they reproduce by raping and impregnating people IIRC. More recently they've made the Daemonettes more modest by covering their nipples up. Persomally I prefer the old colourful wacky Workshop, people knew how to laugh at themselves then.

Nonsense. The age of Gamers isn't getting lower at all. GW Hobby Centres aren't meant to do the Beginners days for anyone under 12. Mainly because of the insurance. Plus, when I worked for them, I was told to discourage kids who were too young from buying anything. Or to be more specific/truthful (depends which way you look at it!) discourage the Parents. Show the Parents a sprue from a random box. Explain the glue isn't exactly young child safe. Generally, they'll look relieved and drag little Johnny away!

Plus, I think the images on the fronts of the books make a pretty good stab at the theme and imagery contained therein. So once again, if a kiddy does go mental with a Chainsaw purging the Unclean, don't blame the company/artist/director. Blame the sodding Parents who couldn't be arsed to check the material their kid was playing/watching/reading was suitable.

This reminds me of that nutcase mother in the 80's who started "BADD - Bothered About Dungeons & Dragons" after her son committed suicide.

The son depressed and on all manner of drugs, but no, it was the evil devil worship of D&D that made him kill himself.

I love how when the little bastards do something wrong, it's the fault of music, video games, hobbies, etc... but it's never the parent's fault.

And yet, when their children grow up and are successful these same parents are the first to take the credit.

Warhammer, Heavy Metal, Grand Theft Auto, etc. isn't responsible for how your child turns out-- it's whether or not these dipstick parents can pry their heads out of their asses and spend some actual quality time with their kids that does.

Honest to god, anyone who reads this type of blog and finds themselves nodding in agreement needs to hand their offspring over to social services, who can place the kid in a home with a more capable parent.

Meh. People are dumb. A lot of PBSblog stuff is ridiculous. Just look at their article list...it's run by a bunch of wackos.

I like how they say they will only talk about the negative aspects of the games. Way to have a more balanced or objective article.

It's a self fulfilling prophecy. If all you are looking for is violence in games, then that's all you'll find. Also notice the extremely editorialized slant on the title of the page "deathtoys.html"

Seriously, if I wanted to, I could write a totally slanted article about the "violence" found on PBS shows (yea, I know, not related to the site, but it seemed like one of the most tame, widely known things I could think of...and it has the same name! ). I wouldn't mention any of the good stuff...just all the violence. I mean, have you seen where they show the lions tearing apart the zebra! Good gosh! Think of the children! Or the murder mystery where they find someone dead and bleeding on the floor in 19th century England? Or how about the animals having sex on primetime public TV?

It's completely ridiculous.

I imagine the next article will again be more editorial drivel.

Yeah, came out around the same time as BADD got started. Printed in a conservative Christian newsletter I believe. It's what started the whole 'Roleplaying is Evil' bullshittery in the US and among other fundamentalist Christian groups.

No, it's the one where a girl is part of a group playing Dark Dungeons (ominous!) who commits suicide when her character dies and apparently that means her group thinks she doesn't exist anymore.

I don't like it when people rip on Christianity as a whole but... cripes. Do they think that Gary Gygax (God rest his soul) was the Anti-Christ or something?

Neither do I, which is why I said fundementalist groups, as opposed to just 'Christians'. If I'd've said the later I'd have to include myself.

And I don't think D&D is evil, and I think this Deathtoy lunatic is just that - a lunatic. But then again we should be used to these things. Every second story about games is about how they're turning our children into mass murderers.

Do these parents not remember when their parents were claiming Rock & Roll music was from the devil/going to corrupt everyone?

I think FPS and simulator videogaming is far more of a direct correlation of game to real world violence.

All that video gaming is training our kids to better pilot those remote bomb drones that always seem to kill a hut full of woman and children in some random village in whatever country we have decided to bomb this month...

On a related note: I'm really pissed at Satan for not coming through with his end of the deal.

I mean I have been a devout follower of D&D (The original "gaming evil") since the early eighties and he still hasn't rewarded me with dark power, a demonic familiar or even a a cool disfiguring mutation on some part of my body.

I'm starting to wonder if it is all a cruel joke...

Is that one of those Jack Chick tracts? As a so called fundamentalist Christian even I find some of those, like that Dark Dungeons one, tracts over the top. He also likes to attack rock and roll music(even the Christian bands) and the Roman Catholic church.

Personally I think those types of tracts do more harm then good.
