Currently won't be purchasing it, $165 is a little too pricy for me, for a game that i have never played before and am yet to understand the hype about it.

Maybe if i get a chance to play a few games instore and understand it then i might look into purchasing it with mates, or over time pick a copy up from the inevitable ebay sellers.

There isn't really an option for me in the poll.

I am interested, it looks like a very nice set, and if I had the money I would buy it. Unfortunately, since it is limited edition, I probably won't have the money until after it sells out, so I won't be buying it.

Not if the only copy there is is the demo copy. You come in, see the demo copy, then pre-order for its eventual release.

All the GW stores i know of have been given a demo box, they received them today (was in store to see the models and the kits when they arrived).

They are tasked to get them painted so they are able to play through demo games i believe. Also from what i could gather it seems to be similar to the first version of Space hulk.

You know the original Space Hulk game (1st edition) featured Blood Angels, right?

It wasn't until the Deathwing expansion that the Deathwing were introduced (which makes sense).

Pre-ordered as soon as was humanly possible!

Rogue not sure about buying so many just to split for sales (assumed from your earlier post), especially when you see people that won't be able to get the money together in time to buy one, just seems a bit off somehow? Not judging though.

However I am oddly curious how you get on with this, keep us posted!

Is there an order limit beyond 10 at a time?

I bet if someone plays there cards right they could actually turn quite a profit. Pretty cool if you ask me.

After looking further into the set, I have become a huge fan of the commander terminator. I wonder if there would be a way to get GW to produce that mini as a regular. Fantastic work though, really.

Honestly, the first couple of terminator pics they showed looked nice, but the more and more they show, the termies look way too "blinged up" for me. The genestealers don't really do it for me either.

$100 is quite a bit high for a game that isn't played that often and minis I'm not that jazzed about.

Got mine on preorder.

I've been waiting for this a very long time to not get it. I would love to see a fully redone Epic/Adeptus Titanicus and a more substantial relaunch of Necromunda now that we have a lot of nice plastic terrain. Those would be instant purchases for me, as well.

But I won't say that this is all roses for me. I have quite a few comments about this release:

I was disappointed that the tiles aren't plastic as per the rumors, but it is not that big of a deal, since the cardboard tiles my friends and I use from our 1st edition Space Hulk sets are still in good working order. I have been toying around with the idea of cutting plasticard/styrene sheets and gluing "granny grating" on them to make my own plastic space hulk tiles, so that may be a project for me in the future (and best of all, I can make them with 40mm squares).

As someone working on a Dark Angel army, I am disappointed that the Terminators aren't Deathwing, but I look at the box art of the original Space Hulk set and the original metal Terminator box (the one that came with 8 Terminators, including the Captain with the grenade launcher on his powerfist...and has the Dark Angel Terminator scheme in black!), and I can see why they would release these as Blood Angels as a homage to the original Space Hulk and Terminators. I do think the miniatures are fantastic, though it just didn't work out in my favor this time. Though I may end up painting a small Blood Angel force for fun, because of this.

I disagree with the secretive nature of the release, because I feel that it caught a lot of people flat-footed in terms of their finances. I think a lot of people would wanted to buy this, but can't right this instant got hosed, because they weren't allowed to prepare themselves for the purchase. The limited nature of it sucks also, but it may have been due to the outsourced nature of release. However, the secretive nature of it is unfair for a lot of potential customers who knew that Space Hulk was coming out, but didn't know when and didn't know it would be a limited release. I for one was anticipating it to come out around Christmas.

And the price was a bit high for me. I was initially anticipating buying two sets, but because of the high price, I've limited myself to just one. And from what I've read here on Dakka, it seems that the high price has priced a lot of people out of buying any at all, which makes sense to me, as the price of this release can buy a lot of other things.

However, I can't help but find myself completely and utterly stoked for this to arrive. Maybe it's the nostalgia talking. Maybe it's the nice 'Eavy Metal paintjobs on the website. I don't know. But right now, I am really excited about a GW purchase, and the truth is that I haven't felt this way in a very long time.

I like the miniatures, especially that Librarian and the Genestealers. Space Hulk was my introduction to 40K and I still think it's a rockin' concept.

Unfortunately:
-I just got refused student aid for my return to university for teacher training, so have had to borrow 10000 euro.
-I haven't got enough saved.
-Course is too intensive to reliably hold down a part time job.

So I would really like to buy it, but I can't right now, which means I probably won't ever. I think the limited release is a dumb idea. Also, GW, don't lie to me. It's insulting.

Basic basic rundown of Space Hulk.

You get a mission. Mission usually has an objective - Go here and flame this, retrieve this, get this and go back to the start, cross from one side to the either, X marines must survive for X turns, kill X Genestealers.

Each mission also has a map showing you how to lay out the tiles. Not every mission uses every tile. Maps can be multi-level. The map contains four important things:

1. Deployment.
2. Genestealer entry points.
3. Where all the doors are (doors can be opened and closed and are good for funnelling and cutting off Genestealers).
4. Where the objective/areas of special interest may be.

It will also define how many Marines will be in the mission (eg. Sergeant w/Storm Bolter & Power Sword, 2 Storm Bolters & Power Fists, 1 Storm Bolter & Chainfist & 1 Heavy Flamer & Power Fist), and how many Genestealers will be (eg. 2 blip counters to start, and 3 more every turn).

Genestealers never start on the table (or it's rare) and are instead represented by Blip Counters. Blip counters represent sensor contacts, and could end up being 1, 2 or even 3 Genestealers (previous editions included 4, 5 and 6 Genestealer blip counts, and even 0 Genestealer Blip counters for 'sensor ghosts'). They can be revealed by the Genesealer player, allowing him to place the required amount of 'Stealers on the board, or revealed by the Marine player if he gets within LOS of one. If that happens the Marine player gets to place the Stealers around the blip, so he can push them back and maybe even get rid of some if he forces them into a corner and there isn't enough room to deploy them.

Each Marine has four Action Points per turn. It's 1 to move 1 square forward, 2 to move backward 1 squads, 1 to turn, 1 to shoot, one to open doors (pretty sure on that). You can move diagonally, but you can shift laterally.

You have a random amount of Command Points, drawn randomly each turn. You can bluff your opponent about how many you have, and if he doesn't check and you used more than you had, his loss. I'm certain there's a reverse penalty (probably if you say you have more than you do and he checks, you lose all command points for the turn) but I'm not 100% sure.

Command Points are like blank squares in Scrabble - they can be used anywhere. Additional movement, shooting, opening doors, Overwatch etc.

Shooting at Stealers is simple. Roll 2D6, and if either is a 6 the 'Stealer dies. If you're on overwatch you get to fire at 'Stealers every time they move. So a Genestealer appears in your LOS, you roll 2D6 and on a 6 it dies. If you fail, the 'Stealer moves again, and you shoot again, this time requiring 5's and 6's. Then 4, 5 and 6's, and so on. You Jam your gun on doubles (I think), and it takes Action Points to clear jams.

HTH combat is dangerous. Terminator rolls 1D6, Genestealer rolls 3. Highest wins and the opponent dies. Very hard for Termies to win. Lightning Claws and Hammers etc. will improve the odds, but I'm not 100% certain how.

Assault Cannons and Flamers use ammo. Not sure how Donkey Cannons work, but Flamers hit a single board section, everything on that section dies on a 2+, and the flames hang around until the start of your next turn. Flamer guy can also detonate himself if you're desperate.

Genestealers enter via their entry ways, bringing on new blips each turn. Genestealers move 6 squares a turn and obviously cannot shoot.

The Marines have a time limit in their turn via the sand timer. Now sure how long it is - 3 or 4 mins - but you have to move fast.

The game is about movement, keeping good lines of fire, outflanking, and bluffing. Probably one of those minutes to learn/life time to master sort of things, but not as lofty as that might imply.

The marines in this edition also have the option of "guarding" which costs 2aps and gives them aid in melee ( a reroll I think).

I believe if you "bluff" ( lie) about your command points and are caught you auto lose.

Think marines shooting ( with storm bolters anyway) maxes out at killing on a 5 !

Believe ( not sure here though) the assault cannon is the same as the storm bolters ruels wise but "merely" with more dice.

Heard a horrific rumour that the broodlord is immune to the heavy flamer ( !) and requires 2 Ws done simultaneously ( ie a double 6 for a stormbolter !) to die.

My younger brother has ordered a copy. His reason was that it would be an easy game to play with his kid.

In a Bizarro World twist, he observed that if he somehow needs more genestealers (to play Space Hulk) he already has them (in his 40k army).

Somewhere in south-central England.

I've caved in.

After saying I would not order it because I already have enough 1e stuff, I've gone and ordered two boxes.

My rationalisation is

1. the tiles are compatible with my 1e tiles.
2. Everyone will want to play the new rules, which probably need the new models (e.g. the Thunderhammer.)
3. I can do something with the models, for example, the dead Terminator can probably be used for my Liberace Marines project.
4. It will go out of print so if I don't buy it now I will be stuck later.
