Thanks fer the tough love. As Bigtoof (the snakebite settlement) comes together, my assembly focus will turn to the gobbos. I don't want to do much converting on the boyz. Just a little bit on every model The cult is a lot of pinning work, which was annoying to begin with, but I think I'm getting more of a handle on it. Which is kinda silly because I'm using smaller bits of pin. But I have to cut the night goblins up into so many pieces. It's hard to keep track of it. I think that's why the cult has been waning on my hobby table. But no more! I'm making a concerted effort to get more of the minis painted, so I have something to look up at and say "that's where this is going." I think I need a few more colors, but I'm trying to make do as long as possible... I'm running out of paint tho. I got two more squig hoppers primed today. I think the coats probably dried and left little spots of metal. So a quick touch tonight, perhaps, then on to color blocking. You know, I almost forgot how I had done the Redcap uniforms... so let me write it here for future reference: Base Coat Top: Yellow Bottom: Yellow Wash Top: Red Bottom: Bleached Bone I saw a video tut. that will make the display base / diorama easier to make and lighter... I think. It was a model train video that showed making hills by wadding up newspaper and covering it with large sheets of plaster. I'm not sure how much support the plaster will need for as big as I'm making the mountain (not very big compared to model train tables) but there will be plenty of cave to form an inner structure. If I can make progress on a more regular basis, and on both (all) projects more regularly, I may start a more general blog. The Good Green Work Bench blog... we'll see.

Wow, this is the most response i've gotten for the cult in a while... granted, I haven't posted on this thread (until recently) for a while. Thanks. I've got two more assembled. They just need a tiny bit of GS... tiny, not only because they are so weedy, but because there is very little left to do. I should have some free time starting tomorrow after noon... late afternoon, so you can expect more pics late in the weekend. I sure hope some of that all consuming non-hobby related life doesn't get in the way again...

as reliably as it gets, I was pulled away from my desk as soon as I got started...
I did get the yellow undercoat on the hoppers robes. 2 of them will have the brown mushroom robes. I primed... one more cultist (I think, maybe it was two).
I may buy the empire militia box, to get started on the pirates, soon... next week-ish. Maybe, or maybe I'll keep building the 40k force. We'll see.
Anyhow, If the animals are cooperative I may get quite a bit of work done this week. Of course, it may turn into every other time I have a chance to get some work done.
At any rate, the number of greenskins ready for paint is growing. So, hopefully, I will be able to conveyor belt my way through handfuls of them at a time. I'm getting more practice assembling them too... although, I'm doing much less conversion work on the 40k greenies than on the cultists... generally speaking.
And another thing... my camera has gone on vacation without me. So you'll have to wait for pics if I do manage to get anything done.

First: Sorry for the bad photos. All I got right now is my phone. All the same, I wanted to let you see where the cult stands.
I've got the colors on the squig hopper and herder cloaks, and most have the first layer of skin color too.
I also started putting the gobos together again... FINALLY!
I was put off of it for a while, but now I've had some experience with pinning and I got some better (newer) glue. It's been a lot of little cuts, and close to the finger, but it's moving again... finally.

I've been having some fun here. The Fungal Foragers are coming together nicely. There are a few gobos foraging and a few hunting... and the one having a flash back... but he's got a buddy now too, who's trying to take care of him.
Here are the newest cultists to join the Foragers:
You can see the Shaman... he will most likely count as the standard barer, but I might try playing him as the champ. He is the head forager after all (he makes the fungus beer).
Here is a shot of the fallen tree scene...
I'll take some better pics when more of it is painted, but I wanted to show you the gobo freaking out and his buddy trying to calm him down. Notice the beer he's offering. Not that alcohol is the answer to all our problems (I've got better solutions) but it is made from fungus, and they are goblins for crying out loud!
Something else... you probably can't tell which gobo is suppose to be freaking out... The one with the bow and arrow ready to fire. He is looking backwards compared to the unit and he isn't looking where he's aiming. Note, that last bit isn't uncommon for gobos, but so what. Hopefully it will all be clear once I've finished painting them.
Hope you enjoy, let me know what you think. Thanks.

Thanks, Deminyn. The squig hoppers and squigs are my favorite too, RiTides.
The first twenty Fungal Foragers are almost ready for green stuff. I've got two more to finish up assembling. One in the back row (with no arms) and the other laying down on the job, on the right column. Some still have arms blue-takked on, that is just to make it easier for me to get into different areas when gap filling.
I'm really happy with how these gobos are coming. Let me know what you think.

So- as I was taking these shots I realized I don't ahve 20 of them yet... :( After taking out the snotling filler base I'm missing 4... as only makes sense.
I still need to GS them and add a few details (left off to make the GSing easier).
Anyhoo, here's the pics:
1st Rank
The gobo on the far left is holding a cross bow that I've had since the late 80's.
2nd Rank
3rd Rank
The gobo on the right (with one foot in the air) is standing on the rock in the 2nd rank. The very same rock that the crawling cultist has his hand on.
4th Rank
Now for some detail shots, to show how a few of them fit together.
2nd Rank Detail:
Fallen Tree Scene:
The next one is to show how visible those mushrooms will be once the unit is together.
3rd Rank Detail:
These two are kind of an odd pair, one with half a body and the other with a dislocated shoulder. The one is actually helping the other out of the water (the surface of which I will be green stuffing). He is stepping over a small stream, too.
Additionally, these pics are taken from the back of the unit. As it turns out, most of the cultists are not watching where they are going. Leave that to the lot in front.
One more file on the right and this unit will be assembled to minimum requirements. Later, it will get a 5th rank. I'll probably get started on the Squig Hunters unit bases next, before getting to the green stuff. The idea is to collect as much "to do" GS work as I can before getting into it. It's likely I'll ease into the GS, doing a couple cultists at a time, when I need a break from scenic work.
C&C welcome. Thanks for reading.

I think they are looking really cool, i would remove the bow from the hands of the one helping the other outta the water and replace it with some rope or a twig or something. the bow looks ummm unatural.

I was having second thoughts about the bow. I wanted to torn it around, but I'm not sure that would be better. I'll see about some twigs and take it from there. Thanks.
I'll snap some pics of them on the (very WIP) display board in the next couple days.

This isn't really an update... and I still haven't set up the gobos on the display board. Sorry. It really isn't much to look at yet. I will try to get to that soon. I did start working on the bases for the Squig Hunting unit (aka spear gobos). I'm quite happy with how the cave came out. It's built up on four regular bases. I'll get some picks of that up pretty soon too. Now, to the point of this post. I'm going to have a little extra cash soon and I'm having trouble deciding what I get next. I need more night goblins (at least one more box to make 3 units). I want to start collecting for the pirates too, tho. A box of the empire militia would be nice, and I need more squigs! The Doom Diver is also up there on my list, for both fantasy and 40K since I got the Batman and Robin orks.

Not much to update. I have slowly started GS work on the gobos. I did happen on a bunch of Dwarf Slayer Pirates at my FLGS the other day. A few slayer pirates and Long Drong and the standard bearer. I'm pretty happy about it.
Here are two of them up against a super grot...
More to come...

Don't know how I managed to miss the updates... The cult is looking good, and I can only admire the amount of detail going into what amounts to a 60 point unit... Congrats! Will you be turning the dwarf slayers into super grots, or will they remain as pirates?
As for purchasing: in these big projects try that buy stuff that doens't require addtiional bits, or buy with that in mind; it's what I try to do anyway.

Yeah, the pirates are gonna be pirates. I have trouble buying things that don't need more bits. That's mostly because I am looking at a set for only a portion of it's bits.
I'm into all of this madness to convert these guys anyhoo. So bits stores and ebay have been very helpful. I'm close to knowing exactly what parts I'll need more of for all my projects.
I'm also not a fan of GW's new style of model making, where the torso and legs are one piece, and in some cases the head too! It hasn't made the models any cheaper for us. It hasn't hampered my work, just made them more laborious, and I've cut myself a few extra times, I imagine.

Welcome the madness and embrace it, you're stuck with it anway. To illustrate, I bought a box of ork bikers just for bits to use on my grot revolution... And yopu'll find that in time, any item will show conversion potential. That's the moment to check with the wife/gf that she does'nt need the parts in question - because she still needs that blender, for instance

+1. I liked it too when models really were multipart instead of 'stick on the bolter and call it a day' multipart...

Just so you know I haven't forgotten about these gobos, I started working on the layout of their home table/display board. It's gotten bigger.
That's 3feet by 2 feet for those of you that don't want to squint. I know it's not the best quality image of the drawing, but I hope you can tell whats going on.
The lower right rectangle is a topographical map with a river running down the middle, with diagonal lines in it. The highest corners are the top two in that map. standing at 14 and 18 inches. With the lowest portion being in the middle of the bottom side, standing at 4 inches.
There will be several caves and two removable sections (the tall corners) that will reveal some of the cave system.
I was re-enthused by a bunch of Styrofoam I found at work the other day. If it goes smooth enough I'll make a few additional pieces to indicate where the troll lives and the road to the mining town lower down the mountain. Let me know what you think, Thoughts and criticisms welcome. I know it's not much of an update, but I have been neglecting the cult for a while, so I figured I'd breath some life back into it.
Thanks for reading.
