Dogs are better at conceptualising, investigating and socialising, as far as I'm aware. What did cats do as well as monkeys?
Visual memory.
They also have the ability to produce tools in certain circumstances.
As far as socialization is concerned I'm not sure that dogs are actually better at it. Cats form social groups when permitted to do so. I know I've heard more than one line of argument that suggests the human belief that cats are solitary animals has lead to a skew in results with regard to their actual behavioral abilities.

Cool. I'd be interested in reading any of that research, if you have it handy? Behavioural ecology is one of my favourite subjects, and I'm always happy to be proven wrong.

That's not really true since any comparison of intelligence, as thing in itself, between species is based on anthropomorphic assumptions. This gets even more problematic when looking at breed variation, and the intellectual capacity being tested.
There have been tests in which cats have produced results comparable to those of monkeys, which, to my knowledge, dogs have never done.
Interestingly I read studies, measuring brain size. Your basic domestic cat is litterally more stupid than his 19th century forbears. Evolution doesn't necessarily mean greater intelligence.

I'll see if I can fine the one on visual memory. I know I long ago lost track of the tool use article.

Makes sense. Greater levels of provision would have lead to a reduced need for brain activity. Just like the rest of the body, the brain develops from use in the course of childhood.
