Well, as it happens, I got done with the other head, and thought I could paint it better, so I was going to remove the head and simple green it and start over, but I guess I used too much super glue, and the head was essentially destroyed in the removal process.

So I made a new one. I like it better, as he has a calmer, more severe look. He seems more in control, which a psyker should be, lest they lose themselves to the warp.

For him, I used the sponge trick and a fine brush. I dabbed some boltgun metal in the larger black areas.

I'm planning a different method for my next one, though, to see if my results are any different, involving liquid latex and the trusty airbrush.

Well, I'm back from the dead. My "I'm going to paint an army" declarations never seem to take off, but when a competition shows up, I have to get ready. I give you Bjorn the Fell Handed.

And the painting has begun:

I've currently moved over to the base, so I'll post more as I move toward completion. Thanks for looking!

Bjorn the fellhanded is looking phenomenal, I am in total awe of your modelling skills.

If I may be so chheky to ask what bits you used and what is your sculpting technique?

Let see if I can remember everything;

The Banner is brass rod, a WHFB Chaos Marauder Cav banner, & bit from the old 3rd ed. SW sprue.

The Dreadnought is the Forgeworld Mk IV Venerable kit, with Plasma Cannon & Assault Drill arms.

A wolf head backpack and a few banner poles were cannibalized for the smoke launchers and exhaust vents.

You'll see where a lot of plasticard was used, as well as glass miccrobead throughtout for rivets.

The base of the top wolf pelt is a WHFB wolf, while the "belt" is a marauder champion bit, a coulpe of tails, and some talismans from dwarf banners.

Reworking the legs, I tore out the original groin, and replaced it with one from a plastic dread.

A few other misc. bits here and there, but that's most of it.

I just sculpt until I get it the way I want it; trial and error basically.

Wow. Amazing stuff here man; I love what you're doing with the Wolves, particularly the very-well balanced weathering and the older colour scheme; really nice and exactly how I imagine wolves. Beautiful work. Seriously.

Can't wait to see the finished Bjorn; I love what you're doing with him; particularly the head. I admit, I fear the (fell) hand could be a bit over-sized, but otherwise it looks great and with real momentum.

Love it. Can't wait for more.

P.S. Once you've got Bjorn ready, can you put him facing your other Dread as your existing one's fist is in prime cupping-position?

Well, the update for the legs is a little lackluster, I admit; just one photo, but it's a pair of legs, what are you gonna do? With these done, (aside from a light coat of dullcote) I'm moving up to the admittedly more exciting part, the torso.

It's starting to come together, and while I find myself usually getting distracted easily, I seem to be keeping a good momentum going.

Thanks again for looking, and for all the comments.

@wyomingfox: The snow was easy and hard; for the base (the easy part) I just mix Woodland Scenics snow with good old Elmer's white glue until it's a goopy paste. Then I take some toothpicks and a flat sculpting tool and lay it down and shape it where I want it. The hard part was figuring out how to put it on Bjorn himself. I could not find a tutorial for this anywhere, I just knew that I had seen it done before and loved it. It is ridiculously simple, and I felt stupid after I figured it out. I take some more snow, my brush, and some watered down matte varnish. dip the brush in the varnish, dip it in the snow, and brush it onto the model where I want it, paying attention to recesses, and areas where a little snow might pool temporarily, as well as leaving some flakes brushing across the armor, like he's wading through a bit of a blizzard.

@Just Dave: You might be right about the hand, but I look at it this way, a lot of crabs have a dominant fighting claw that seems a little oversized for their bodies, that they use to kick some ass. As long as it looks more intimidating than goofy in the end, I'll be happy. I might be able to work out a cup shot at the end.

Well I'm going to get a little faster with updates, and post them as I get a noticeable amount done. That way, you all aren't sitting in the dark for 2 weeks while I finish a whole chunk of him, just for one photo. Here, I got done with the hide backing on the fur, and the lower and chest portions on the bronze. This let me attach the torso to the legs, and finally glue in the head piece, which was the first thing I painted a week ago. hopefully tomorrow, I can get the fur on the "warbelt" done, so that it doesn't look so sloppy. (I hate that. )

As always, thanks for looking.

I'm planning some OSL, nothing over the top. My plan is for the plasma coils and the little sensors under the torso, as well as to beef up the osl around his eyes, which you really can't see, but is there.

I don't know Beamo, I actually light the toned down OSL on the wold skull eyes. A pale and more sinister light. I sometimes get tired of seeing ever OSL lense painted as if powered by LEDs.
