Subject: Tanksgiving 2009 - USA takes the record for the most tanks in a GW battle.
I stopped by the Milwaukee GW store... and it looked at least like they were actually playing an organized game.
Sorry the Chicago event was so lame... that staff should be reprimanded for that.

faeslayer, I thumbed through that album and saw a Warlord Titan! Holy freaking crap! Any idea how it was made or anything?! I have wanted one for ages. If you know or know someone who can help me, shoot me a PM, please.
I would appreciate it!
Oh, and that is just a disgusting amount of plastic and resin for one event. Seriously.

Oh gosh... I will have to take some pictures at the LA Bunker for their next event... Honestly I have yet to see a warlord that wasnt...bad (Im sorry but thats just how it is) Like seriously they are made from pvp pipe and card board... like there was no effort into them...
For those of you who remember Daves Warlord (the one many people that was going to be a new release from FW when they first saw it) that was at the LA bunker for some time (I even got to play in a battle against it!!) so that was cool... but sadly no one else has put nearly as much time and effort than his and I have yet to see another one better than his

I know that one and I would love a tutorial on how he did it. That is what I am shooting for. My store does a lot of "Tank Battles" set up like Tanksgiving, so it would be the best possible option (since Imperators are out of the question!).

Mmm, fat nymphos...
OH, frat! Um...hmm.
Well anyway, sounds kinda lame I guess. I wouldn't have participated just because my stuff is unpainted. Also, bringing bikes, walkers and MCs kinda defeats the whole purpose of a tank battle doesn't it?

They weren't in the same place, you didn't actually play a game properly (they shot an imaginary target) and most importantly- it wasn't all painted and assembled?
Pah- doesn't fly with me
The record is still held by Manchester in the UK, complete with a game were both sides played- moved and blew each other up with full shooting phases and again...
I went to the first Operation Citadel they did in Chicago a few years ago. I brought over 100 fully-painted tanks. Unpacked them, put them on the table, lost the roll for 1st turn, and put them back in the case. To an unpainted horde, none-the-less.
After hearing how they were running it this year, I opted to stay home and paint instead. It's just not my thing. I hope the people who went had a good time.

Yet another thing(alongside Adepticon) I hope to finally attend in 2010.
I'm debating whether to bring just my Imperials(over 22k points, haven't counted out my AV units yet)) or to bring all my "Forces of Order" armies(Imperials + Eldar and Tau).
Or to just say screw it and also bring my Traitors and other Xenos armies as well, just to put down even more AV units.

The odd part is they've taken 40K, a heavily abstracted game who's abstractions lead to all sorts of oddities and imbalances... and then further abstracted it to the point where:
A). The models don't matter.
B). Range doesn't matter.
C). LOS doesn't matter.
D). The actual target of the attack doesn't matter.
E). The result of the attack is simple "killed/not killed".
Combining the count of vehicles from more than one store is not "breaking the record". If that was a valid way to break the previous record then any group of stores at any time could combine and say they broke it. What if all the game stores in a given state in the US decided to ask their customers to show up with tanks and then they combined the total of all the tanks in those stores? Would that number be a valid record breaker if it surpassed the current record? Or all the stores in a given country? I don't think anyone is going to recognize the count from two stores combined as setting a record over the current record which was set in a single location.

I was in attendance at the LA Battle Bunker location this year ('09). I believe that many are making more out of it then needed. The event was simply designed to let people show off a bit, flash their LARGE army of vehicles, or conversions, etc. I was part of the GMI Gaming store that showed up.
Now, in advance we were simply informed to bring anything from GW product line that had an Armor Value; Dreadnoughts, Rhinos, Baneblades, Titans, etc. We were never informed of anything about "Monstrous" or "Gargantuan" creatures until we arrived, and thus the only such model from our combined efforts was jus 1 An'ggrath. BUT, we did show up with 662 vehicles, which won our store the Tank Buster Plaque/trophy. The other Riverside store, The Adventurer's Guild brought over 450+ vehicles, about 350 of which belonged to a single person who won the Tank Buster Plaque/Trophy for single player. Our 2 stores (both based out of Riverside, CA.) combined to have over 1/3 the vehicles in attendance.
There's been some speculation about painting and the such...I believe only a small portion (less then 10%) of our models were unpainted. I saw NOTHING in LA that was unassembled...but I also didn't get around to to every single table during the event. I was more worried about my table! Between all the tables that i did see, maybe 20 montsrous/gargantuan type creatures were in attendance. Funny, the UK youtube lists Tyranid Monstrous Creatures as ok... ...
With the question of fully assembled and painted, even that can be questioned, as in the UK pix of models, many of the tanks have a simple single paint color on them...that counts? What degree of painting are we talking about? This all just boils down to silly arguements over an event that was suppose to be fun and entertaining, which it was!
World Records are meant to be broken, but with loose rules, it'll always be in question.
Once we all arrived at the event, we had to take 5 tables in the back (why on the floor?) to set up, and it was wall to wall vehicles! Quite crazy looking, and awe inspiring....then we were handed out sheets of paper with a simple formula for how GW was running the event. Our tables went ahead and rolled 3 Turns worth of dice, but apparently with the formula set up in place, the LA Battle Bunker was able to wipe out the Chicago Battle Bunker in one fell round of shooting! Chicago Battle Bunker fired at the same time, and damaged/destroyed most if not all our "void shields"...then Baltimore jumped in, sent a "barrage" at us, which we were then asked to roll for "Barrage only" shots and ended up taking out Baltimore as well...
So that was the lil' storyline and event that was "Tanks-Giving". We all (GMI Games) had fun at the event, and look forward to attendance next year!

But sadly.. england still win in the purpose of massive tank wars... The chaps in manchester used these lines more or less (Keyword on MORE OR LESS)
A. The units useable were:
- Transports (and their troops of course, but they ain't counted for the actualy no. of tanks)
- Tanks (Dur)
- Monsterous creatures
- Anything else with a Armor value
B. The units had to be:
- Fully Painted (I believe it's the 3 color rule they use)
- Fully Built
C. The setup is:
- 2 sides, each side had roughly equal points.
- You could only attack the other enemy in front of you (For the purpose of keeping the giant game going)
- At the end of the game, which ever side wiped out the most players wins

From the way it was explained to me by a GW employee at the LA bunker was somthing like each tank gave you a stucture point. I do not know what AV it was was but thru the feed you fired at one another until the bunker was destroyed. So I guess LA blew up Chicago without chicago even getting a turn which is what they employee told me their goal was. I am kinda glad I didn't go.
@Darkgeneral
I cannot believe ONE guy had 350 tanks. Man that is insane! Finally a chance to use 'em.

Superscope: Now those are quite simple rules, and easily enough followed. The problem we had here in the States was the communication issue...didn't know about Monstrous/Gargantuan creatures, etc. I do prefer some paint (3 color minimum) on the models, and I'm sure next year it'll be inforced! We didn't line up to play each other, it was an LA vs Chicago event...maybe next time!!! Interesting enough, this has sparked and impromptu challenge from the LA Battle Bunker against the GMI Games Store to have a large, Mega-Apocalypse game! Store vs store! So now we're setting a date and points limit/start...
smart_alex: Hey Alex! How goes it brotha!?!??! Aint see ya' in a bit! Yeah, the 350 vehicles belonged to Senobia from the Adventurer's Guild of Riverside...might have to get an Apocalypse game in with him!

The turns were simultaneous- LA started at 1:00 local time, Chicago at 3:00. The AV was 12. There were two turns- no tanks were ever targeted or removed, so no one could really be prevented from firing back. LA, at least we were told in Chicago, won by 400 "hits" between the two turns.
