I think all the negativity aimed at GW (and I'm one of the worst...probably ) comes from an illogical attachment to said company......I mean, as an example, you buy a Ford Mondeo.....you love the car and enjoy driving it! Ford then replaces the Mondeo range with....something else, you go for a test drive....but decide, its not for you....what do you do? Do you buy it anyway and complain on public Forums that Ford is rubbish? or do you simply go and buy a Toyota?

GW has clearly taken a new direction from what some veterans remember as a "hey day" of gaming. Theres no need to send them letters, or demand a return to their old business strategy, the best message you can send them is to simply walk away!

The only sense posted in this thread.

This whole thing reminds me of another company, Palladium books, who is very strict about online content and fan made things. They too are quick with the C&D and have said their lawyers advised them it was for the betterment of the company. Maybe GW has subscribed to this little bit of legal advice and started to clean up the "mess" and keep their product under a watchful, controlling, eye. With the release of LRB they feel like they owe no more in the way of online content and have no expectations to give any more. So they give us a sub-par product and say "You're better off using the older rules" just to avoid expectations of any future online material.

GW is up to something and it is only a matter of time before we find out what is going on internally. I just wish our voices and money meant something to them.

Also they do owe us a lot because GW targets such a niche market it matters if we spend our money there or not.

I'm back!

So, what is to stop Galek (or whatever his name is, sorry) from distributing his version? Free of charge, of course. Or maybe he could make a dance mix and sell it for 10 bucks and attach a copy of the rules with it!

I feel that I must join Malecus in asking, Rule Wise what is the difference between the editions? I perosnally do not care about anything else but the rules. If they are the same if not better then I don't have to bug my buddy for his pdf copy of the old rules

This came up in the last thread, GW owns the trademarks and may own some of the copyrights on any of his work. If he rewrites to eliminate any referenc3s to GW trademarks and rephrase anything that uses GW's language he could release the game as Gorecup (or whatever) but he cannot just put out his own BB rules without GW permission.

I'm not a player of BB, but seeing how GW has treated this situation, I'm glad to say I'm not. I've personally had a bad vibe from GW for a very long time now. I gave 5th edition a chance but quickly decided it was a PoS. (My own opinion nothing more)

Brand Loyalty for me stopped years ago when I first realized I couldn't buy bits from them any longer. The loyalty I do have is the good time and friends I've played the games with and it ends there. GW will never get another dime from me and I really don't care if they stay afloat at this point.

At this point their IP will outlive them.

Your money means a lot to GW. Spend it elsewhere. Play Warmachine or Flames of War! Solid rulesets from companies that actually communicate with their fans.

Games Workshop have seen fit to punch the fans again f**king typical like so much they do to us veterans all the time.

What really boils my blood is the credits page where so many fans contributed so much and they just remove it to protect their own artistic interests.

They butchered it. They messed with the format and made it a more difficult to read font and size.

They did not make anything simpler or easier. Without the single page format, finding things will be very tough, and small print sucks when you are scanning for a rule.

Especially when they have pulled pages and messed up the references.

They pulled the credits AND the designer notes where Jervis thanked the rules commitee and Tom (Galak) Anders.

Also, Where the feth are the Slann and Underworld Pact teams? they were supposed to be in there.

What bugs me the most is the paragraph at the top of the first page. They basically call them unofficial league rules, when they were designed to be the basic and tournament rules.
WTF?

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Also, the rules that are in the box game created many more lopsided and un-fun games than all of the rules versions since put together.

I really do not see myself purchasing any new GW stuff as a result of this.

I was already going over to Warmachine/Hordes for my gaming fix.

Now I am going to add Malifaux and others for my model fix.

That company does not deserve my money.

Is it possible for someone to post the LRB 6 pdf before GW changed the editing? Or would that violate copyrights since they've posted up this version?

I know this is off-topic, but I figured out GW's stance on brand loyalty:

They're just acting like typical alpha males. GW doesn't want to treat veterans like crap, no. They just went on a few websites about how to pick up girls and applied the same logic to brand loyalty. So they transformed their geeky, nice exterior into a mondo PUA and now they're rolling in cash. Brilliant!

Let's face it, if GW treated us well, they'd be friendzoned and we'd just leave them for some other company that treats us like crap...

Apparently his hands are tied by legal stuff, and a condition of his contract with GW was that he destroy all of his LRB6-related files, so there can be no other versions of the PDF released. He's also urging nobody to host or in any way modify the file, pointing out that GW would come after him should something like that happen. No idea how credible the threat is, but he certainly appears scared by it.

The supply does not get to make the demands.

I don't think GW think brand loyalty is important because what I think is they think that the constant inflow of new 12-year-old Spase Marien (Hurr!!!) fans is enough to compensate for the 16-year-olds leaving. (If that makes sense.)

Veterans are the cherryies on the icing on the cake. You won't really notice if there are only 8 instead of 12.

The unresolved questions are how valuable in marketing are the vets and whether enough vets are pissed off enough to stop helping GW market the games.

I was impressed that it needed an FAQ page. Isn't the point of a new version of the rules that you fix the bits where people are 'frequently' confused by the rules.

FAIL!

GW is a business who is interested in protecting its intellectual property unfortunately part of protecting said property is to use litigious practices to protect your property.

All businesses do this its part of business GW is no different.

Basically it's really gakky what GW by not acknowledging who worked on the product but ultimately it doesn't change anything.

GW does not care about its customers only in so far as if they are purchasing their product.

GW knows that long time players buy less product because they already have previous models.

This leads them to garnering more interest in getting new plyers to get into the hobby.

That's mighty good of them as it cost them nothing in the first place. Anyway, I highly doubt they could charge anything for it unless their contractual arrangements with galak and team were drastically altered. You can't simply let someone write a book for you for free on the basis you will not charge for it, and then a few years later when the book is ready to be released suddenly flip them the finger and start charging customers.

Can't wait to hear what Luke and JJ from world's end have to say about this - I think they are the closest thing we have to independent blood bowl spokesmen, and those with the greatest chance of being heard by GW. Not that it will change anything, but I think it's so sad that this is such a let down - I could probably cope with the rules being less good than LRB5, but to let the production values slip so badly...unforgivable.

Just thinking about the point that someone suggested that GW only goes for new blood, preferably in the form of a 12 year old, or younger no doubt!

But, without T.V. advertising, one has to wonder HOW they go about attracting this, shall we say, extremely fickle age group? Surely wandering past a GW doesn't have enough pull to attract these young players? especially given the relatively geeky nature of the whole gaming scene......and, what about the competition...Playstation 3 or Xbox 360 anyone?

My guess, is that the game interest is generated more via word of mouth, or veterans introducing their kids, and the kids of others to the game.....if this is truley the case, then by ignoring vet players, they are inadvertantly cutting off the branch they themsleves are sitting on.

Who here will push their children into the direction of GW, I sure as hell won't (if I have any that is )

So, my question, how do they get the kids through the door?

Could this also be why they have given BB a bum rush? knowing its clearly a vet only played game, and of little or no interest to the sprogs....who clearly are attracted to Space Marines and nothing else......

Man down, Man down....
