God damnit. Total nerdrage here, but why the feth would they do that with the cockpit? That means that it's probably going to be a whole kit, rather than some parts you can replace on a regular Valkyrie. The whole kit will probably cost more than a plastic Valk plus a conversion kit, I'll bet.

Well, the engines and cockpit frames are still plastic, so not all is lost.

edit.

The only thing I'd like to know with the heavy lifter is just how stable she is on that flying stand. The Vulture is rather wobbly.

Hehe, I should've spotted them this morning when I was gawking at the cabinet, but I was a bit too giddy from the signed books by mister Dembski-Bowden.

Anyway I've seen the Valkyrie heavy lifter, which is a Valkyrie with the rear compartment left off, instead there are four hydraulic arms. A bit like that Sykorski heavy lift chopper. The wings sported rocket pods, didn't get a glance at the right cheek though, so I can't say if it comes with a ML or LC as well. It is a single seat aircraft BTW, just a lone pilot, no second crew station.

Second big reveal was a massive Ork tank, larger than a Land Raider, which was dubbed the "Kill Bursta" by the FW staff. Lovely tracks with nicely detailed road wheels, a huge big dozer blade, a massive hull-mounted main gun, perhaps a siege weapon of sorts. Has two smaller turrets up top with limited traverse, one with a skorcha and the other with twin-linked heavy shootas. Also comes with a gun toting Ork tank commander.

Lastly, I briefly spoke to Simon Egan and asked him about any future Elysian releases. Currently the Elysians are only getting the heavy lifter, Tauros and seated Elysians for the Valkyrie. He wants to do other stuff, but as of right now that's all that's on the list. I asked him about drop commissars and the other heavy weapons that were mentioned in the past, which he admitted he wanted to do, but as of right now it's not know what will they will get in the future.

IA8 will be expected late Q1 of this year.

I officially take back my offer to trade my Orks for Tyranids. I wantz dat tank!!! Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaggggggggghhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What is that Jeep with the twin linked guns on it? any way of getting those for other regiments?

Are all of those jeeps and tanks Resin, or are they coming out in plastic?

Me like. I just hope the lifter is not a complete resin kit. I'd hate to use a full resin flyer.
Here's a question: can that thing actually hold the model from the vehicle? Because, if it can I'm so sold.

The Ork tank is nice, but I already have so much Ork vehicles and still want more. They just keep adding to the list.

I mean, the Thunderhawk Lifter can carry what it says...but I wouldn't really try it, except in a very, very, very controlled setting.

Imagine how furiously peeved you'd be if some kiddy knocked over your Valkyrie Heavy Lifter and broke both it--and the Venator it was carrying?

As for the Heavy Lifter--it looks like it's a resin/plastic combination. If I had to guess, there's a "sheath" that slides over the copilot's area and forms the main body.

That heavy lifter is ace! The detail on the crew is fantastic, I love how it looks like they are talking to each other and going over mission briefs. Sweet stuff! Too bad I don't play Elysians, but those models are still really, really cool.

did I call it or what? - Valkyrie Skycrane FTW!

Valks are pretty darn big, but with very little work, you could lose the huge Transport capacity and skeletonize it for a Valkyrie Transporter capable of airlifting a single Chimera or Hellhound. Being able to touch & drop a Hellhound-class light Tank would provide tremendous close-in support, and the Transporter itself could still provide supporting fire via its wing-mounted Rocket Pods, and perhaps Heavy Bolter Pods.

The Chimera-based Artillery vehicles would be too large, due to the oversized turrets or gun barrels, while the Hydra would be redundant due to the Vulture Gunships.

The actual FW design is quite good, very clean. The only minor disappointment is not keeping the dual cockpit.

I approve of this design!

Oh, yeah, kit-wise, it looks like plastic wings, tails, and stabilizers; probably engines too.

If GW had only designed the cockpit parts with an integral chin turret / sensor array, FW would have had a much easier time for everything, and the Vulture / Vendetta / lifter variants would be easy and even cheaper.

Elysians don't need no stinkin' Chimeras. They've got Sentinels for close-in support, especially when you arm them up with Multi-Meltas or Heavy Bolters.

Add in HK missiles for when you need that extra hitting range, and fwabam.

The lifter Valk offers some intersting tactical options. Can you now deepstrike tanks with it?

Dropping Banewolves would ruin many a player's whole day.

I'm assuming the lift Valk will be able to drop Chimeras and any Hellhound variant.

Deepstringing a Blast Multimelta would be indeed be very cool.

I'm bemused that the heavy lift Valkyrie is not lighter armed than the regular variant. You'd think the extra weight of rocket pods would be a problem when carrying big heavy items.

The supply does not get to make the demands.

It's trading a fully-loaded AV12/12/10 cargo compartment for an AV12/12/10 carried tank. Seems pretty fair to me...

The Chimera chassis is too big and heavy to handle for the lifter. It might be called a heavy lifter but don't let the title fool you. Besides, the Venator is tiny, which surprised me but it's okay I guess, Elysians needs tiny equipment.

Agamemnon2 wrote:I'm bemused that the heavy lift Valkyrie is not lighter armed than the regular variant. You'd think the extra weight of rocket pods would be a problem when carrying big heavy items.
Well, if the pods bother you, maybe you could swap them out for a pack of aircraft fuel tanks that they have for sale. I've been thinking of adding those myself to one in the future, a bit like the old Valkyrie rules that state if you wish to have it transport a Sentinel or Tarantula it needs to replace the pods or missiles under the wings with fuel tanks.

Chimeras are too big, the lifting gear on the HLV looks to match up with the Venators wheels, and the Elysians have never used Chimeras/chimera based vehicles.
So I would be prepared to lay money that they won't.
Elysians use Valkyries/Vultures like the regular IG use Chimeras.

If the thought of something makes me giggle for longer than 15 seconds, I am to assume that I am not allowed to do it.

They saved weight by dropping the extra pilot! haha.

I guess the extra pilot was Porkins.

Completely untrue. The Valk cargo compartment is essentially the same size as a Chimera. I checked it when I first made the note back when the Venator nee FAV was first mentioned.

Completely irrelevant whether a HLV can carry a Chimera. Indeed, one key point against the HLV carrying FAVs is that a FAV is Open-topped, and therefore completely exposed during orbital descent. If anything, the FAV should be deployd via para-sled drop out of a standard Valk.

Up until a couple years ago, SMs never fielded Ironclads or Thunderfire Cannon. Up until last year, IG never fielded Banewolf or Devildog tanks. Up until this month, Nids never had Pyrovores or Hive Guards. You're telling me that I'm supposed to believe that Elysians won't use bog standard Chimeras? Really?

Until we learn more, I'll believe it on the basis that Forge World army lists seem to be written to be as expensive and exclusive as possible, and letting Elysian players use Chimeras would break that pattern.

The supply does not get to make the demands.

Requiring a HLV to field a Chimera would do just fine to push the cost up.

I could see other regiments use the heavy lifter for tossing around Chimeras, but not the Elysians. They're airborne, Market Garden, 82nd, 101 and all those other overrated units.

I love the heavy lifter, but it looks like you'd have to have it off the flying base to have it actually carrying the FAV, which is a shame.

And no, I can't think of anywhere else you'd attach a flying base
