Versteckt in den Schatten deines Geistes.

Very little of my stuff is 2nd hand - all of the 1st Ed Space Hulk stuff is, and about half my Warhammer Quest stuff - but otherwise I buy new, or buy unbuilt and/or unopened models off people who have already owned them (technically making them 2nd hand, even unbuilt).

Always bought new myself. Usually this is due to my lists being slightly bizarre, and struggling to find a decent amount of the models I need online. Like my Savage Orcs.

Other than that I really enjoy the process of cleaning and assembling models, so I go for kits, again limiting my 2nd hand options.

I admit I like the new kit smell and going throught a new box to see all the extras, but I prefer to buy used if it means i'll get a better deal- look long enough and you'll save a lot of money. As long as its got the right options and isn't covered in thick paint I am fine with it.

The reason I go for used is that it's cheaper, and If I want an entire army it's much easier than buying it all seperately (I'm that lazy ). However I most often buy new stuff as I find it hard to get the right stuff used.

As long as they are in new condition , and doesnt require me stripping paint , and it comes in the weapon option i need , its good!

Also , been in multiple trade and buys , i no longer believe / trust in "primed" figures. Because i realize most of the seller
prime over bad paint jobs which I see this as a form of scam.

If a buyer is painting a Golden Demon entry then buying previously primed/painted minis is something I could see being an issue. But seriously, as long as the models are glued together nicely and the paint isn't glopped on, I really don't see the big deal or difference btw painted or primed only. If you're going to paint over it, a couple of nanometers of paint (again the glopped on problem I can appreciate) ain't making a difference.

wheres the fun bying used? thats part of the game man. if you dont want to build and paint then dont play a game in which that is a major part.

Somewhere.

For me, the fun of getting them second hand is the additional challenge. For example, I'm supposed to be buying a Land Raider, some Grey Knight Terminators, three squads of power armour Grey Knights, some Inquisitorial Troopers, Stern and an Inquisitor. The guy who owns them keeps them in a tupperwear box, so they're badly chipped and the weapons are often bent or damaged. Getting those in good condition, looking nice and well painted, adds a layer of fun for me.

Plus, the warm glowy feeling of getting over a hundred quids worth of stuff for twenty...

2 things.

1) You never see badly primed / chipped figures , when you repaint that "nanometer" pretty much looks like a hole on a fabric.

2) You are assuming people only primed 1 coat. Because there are people that state "primed" to cover previously painted models.

The way I end up looking at it, assembly, priming, and painting of figures are all places for the other person to either do something wrong or do something that I don't agree with. I've bought used models with the intention to strip them but changed my mind when the models arrived, but I've never bought a used model expecting to field it as painted.

I've only rarely purchased used plastic because most of the time the extra bits and the added difficulty of disassembling and stripping plastic models. I'll buy used metal kits without hesitation because most of the time there aren't extra bits in the original packaging and the greater ease of restoration.

This is exactly how I feel. The "hunt" for the bargain is part of the experience for me. I'm working on a squad of Basilisks right now, and I've had to stip off old paint, chip off old glue, trim off odd option choices, rebuild railings and pivots from plascard, and of course do a bit of customizing with bits from my box. I really enjoy this stuff, and a full squad of bassies for $55 (+2 bucks in plascard) aint' nothing to sneeze at.

I said barring gloppy paintjobs. Priming over a paintjob is again in the nanometer range for most cases. Again, if it makes that much difference to a person they should go buy new. I actually prefer pre-assembled and painted/primed. You can always give it a new paintjob in the scheme that you want.

I play infantry heavy lists. The thing I like best is individually posing and customizing each man. I just couldn't do that as easily with used stuff.

Oh yeah and I wanted a Perry metal Brettonian army as all the models were out of produvction I couldn't buy it first hand at all which probably encouraged matters......

I pretty much always buy new. Mostly, I'm very distrustful of people I don't know, and I don't want to risk a bad deal. Models are my only luxury, so I like them to be NIB and have fun with them.

I only ever buy new. Building and posing is possibly my single favourite bit of the hobby (with gaming second, list-writing third and painting fourth, but with painting jumping to an easy first when I'm in the mood) so buying pre-built models just... feels like a waste of money.

Hell, I've bought models from new purely for the joy of building them before! Not many, granted, but I have - a good example is my Psyker Battle Squad, converted from plastic Flagellants, when I already had a perfectly servicable set of older models that would have fit the bill perfectly.

The only things I would ever buy pre-built are things which, frankly, have no building options whatsoever. So maybe the occasional metal model (unlikely, I enjoy converting them too, and I don't like playing with metal) or things like LotR one-piece models. Aside from that, I have to buy everything new, normally at (*gasp*) full price from a GW.

I hate stripping models, and the conversion aspect is my favorite part of the hobby, so it's either gotta be brand new in shrink wrap, or at least unassembled and unpainted.
