What kit is that bearded head from?

BTW, I read through your posts a little more thoroughly this time, and I now understand that you're after weathering/dirt wash (not just shading). Have you checked out Forgeworlds weathering powders?

I'm not entirely sure what result you're after, but it seems you want a finish that's less crisp than mine or migsula's?

yeah,

I little more dirty. No i haven't looked at the FW weathering powders but I will. Also, I would suggest using dakka for your image uploading it shows up on more servers and will help place your forum posts on the front page. (just a thought because my work is blocking your pic)

Also before you put all your hard work into these again, buy some of those $8 marines and practice on them. They're cheap, and if it all works out hey you've just gained 3 more marines for your squads. The magnet on the Rhino is a great idea, i wish I've thought of it earlier. Keep trying on those marines, it'll turn out with enough practice. Also i liked the whole concept of a four legged dreadnought, but it was poorly executed. Try experimenting with it some more, maybe give the 2 sets of legs some space between each other using plasticard. and some coils.

Not much work done this weekend

put together another crusader squad

Now what?

A little something else I have been working on. To bad you can't use librarians (or my converted scouts) with Templars.

That is an inspired librarian conversion idea!

that librarian idea is simply awesome. Hope you don't mind if i steal it
but on a different note I have to agree with an earlier post about the 4 legged dreadnought i hate the idea, but it was executed okay. If you like it work on it some more and best of luck to you, but all i can say is ugh...

No, you inspired me- I never would've thought to do something like that for a conversion of a powerfield. That's cool as hell.

How exactly are you gonna color it though? if the paint is too thick it will obscure the model.

Sometime ago I created a four legged dreadnought and got ripped from people saying how stupid it was or how bad it looked.

Here are some of the comments:

Clthomps said "Honestly that four legged Dread looks terrible. "

BlackdracoSLC said: " think that adding an extra section to each leg on the four legged dread would look a little more feasible. Right now the poor thing looks like it would have trouble walking"

and Limbo said: "Dread looks pretty terrible IMO, would like to know the fluff behind that one "

etc, etc

So it seems like the overall community is pretty anti four legged dreads. Some because of how terrible mine looked and some just thought it didn't make sense.

Well, I think it makes sense and here is why.

EXAMPLE 1:
ED-209
A two Legged robot about the size of a dread who was easily taken out because he couldn't even get down a flight of stairs. I believe if he had been given 4 legs robot cop would have ended up in pieces again like the beginning of the movie.

EXAMPLE 2:
AT-ST
This poor 2 legged sap was taken out by a bunch of teddy bears and some tree stumps. You don't see any AT-ATs being brought down by a tree, no, it took Luke Freakin Skywalker and a squad of Rebel fighters

AND 3:
I just really wanted to convert my dread a little and think four legs would look cool.

So here is my new progress on the four legged monster.

It was a pain. I had to cut everything off the front legs and rebuild the extension bars with metal and plastic tubing.

Then I had to replace the cords with guitar string (which does not bend has easily as I had hoped)

I didn't do anything to the back legs but I am switching to a different torso so the body won't be so high of the ground ( as compared to the original). I'm just waiting for the new dread to come out on Thursday or Friday and then Ill put that bad boy on.

Thanks, again for the comments. It really did need some more work. But, as for now, I don't intend to make any changes or go back to 2 legs. I just wanted to show my progress.

thanks

Personally I like the idea of four-legged dreads, or dreads with tracks etc etc just for a little variety.

I mean its the sarcophagi that are sacred to the astartes, the dread bit is just manufactured to give the sarcophagi something to kick ass with! Commander-directed-Mechanicus improvisation has given rise to a great many new variants of tanks so why not these fellows.

Also enjoying the 'chained into place' icons and such, makes it look more like a bunch of zealots impatiently prepping for battle than the carefully-attached approach!

On a side note, you have actually set up the knees to bend in the right direction, if all the knees face forwards it becomes very difficult to do so (cf cow, can go up but not down)

SOMETHING ELSE I'M WORKING ON

I'm still waiting to get dreadnaught leg guards to use as his shoulder pads. I'm also going to use one of those oversized helmets in the new dread box for a familiar to carry for him.

This is the stuff I have so far. Which shield do you think I should use?

I want to add some of this ribon. Does anyone know what this guys ribon is made of? It looks like tape, do you think that would hold up against paint?

Scale wise I'd have to go with the Forgeworld shield but design wise I would go for the black shield with the sword on it.

No idea what he's using for the ribbon, but I guess any ribbon-shaped thing should work? Try rubber bands. I have no idea how they react to spray paint or whatever.

Nice job on the Dread's legs, btw.

Oh, for pity's sake - brake fluid?

Ugh.

Do we really need to play with obviously toxic and carcinogenic stuff when "safe" alternatives like Super Clean / Purple Power and Simple Green are readily available and disposable?

Mind that while this is certainly true, stuff like that might not be as readily available outside of the Americas as Brake Fluid would be. Either way, you should be wearing a pair of gloves whenever you're taking paint off miniatures.

Lots of good conversions and poses here.
The new version of the 4-leg Dread looks MUCH better. It has a sense of movement to it, which makes it look great.

As for Simple Green, I've used it to string several thousand points worth of Marines I've gotten secondhand. There are two things it simply cannot remove: white spray primer, and gloss varnish.
No matter how long I've soaked, or how hard I've scrubbed, Simple Green has NEVER gotten off GW's White Primer, nor is it able to dent spray-on gloss varnish. It rips right through everything else I've pitted it against.
To remove white spray primer and gloss varnish, I have to resort to filling a jar with models, and then blasting the jar full of oven cleaner. Sounds odd, but it works like a charm.

I really like the way you repositions the dreads legs. It looks a lot less static now, as if it's about to charge over the rocks and step on someones face.

I don't have anything mixed up, it just had that "raw metal" look that GW describes as the GK power armor.

______________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Soooooo,

I decided not to go to work again today. Even though I have been home since last Thursday (3 days and the weekend) taking care of my girlfriend because she got her wisdom teeth out). And now am feeling just a little guilty.

BUT I got a little work done. It might not look like much to those of you who checked this post a month ago and saw a bunch based white dudes and then came back to this post and now only see a bunch of based white dudes but ALOT has happened.
For those of you who have followed along in my misadventures in army building or have read the previous posts this will be redundant but ... lets recap.

1
I was like gee let’s do a white templar’s army because you can't paint black

2
lets prime half and go straight to the white base on the other half (not good friends)

3
let’s start washing squad by squad in a dirty wash and then adjust the mixture in-between each one

4
Wash nor paint will stick to models

5
All the models look WAY different

6
Simple green it all

7
Super clean it all because simple green sucks

8
re-prime everything

9
make another crusader squad for no good reason except that you want to procrastinate from re painting

10
waist a lot of time on a four legged dreadnought

11
re-magnetize all your rhinos and land raiders because SUPER CLEAN dissolves glue

12
Rebase all of your models with white primer from airbrush not caring and just trying to get it done already

and 13 steps later
It looks to you like this project hasn't even moved

Ok

back to the last couple of days

A little work on my Marshal

a new termie head because the last one was too grimy from all the simple and Superstuff

Another procrastination project

Totally forgot TEMPLARS don't have the Thunder cannon

The stupidest, ugliest converted Plasma Servitor EVER!! I mean wow, what was I on

Primed all my bases ( can you tell if any of them aren't primed? I'm colorblind but I'm pretty sure there is one little booger in there hiding and I can't tell)

Question, does anyone know where my 5th sword brethren is? Did I sell him in the swap shop because I thought he was a bad sculpt and never thought I would use my SB.

anyhow, this guy might take his place. And some work to the dozer blade

thanks

(didn't want to quote the whole thing, way too lazy)

WOW i must say that is looking much better by just having its feet firmly planted on the ground as for not going back to a two legged version, its your army and you can do what want with it but my main things with it is that 2 legged robots tend to have more manuverability (ie: keeping your front to the enemy in the assault as long as your not immobalized) and more importantly the dreadnought is a tomb for a mighty hero of the chapter and putting one in a "real" (not sure if white templars are real) would be a breach of tradition and might be seen as an insult being put in a "mutant" dread, but hell if you like it what can i do about it
