*puts on the nostalgia cap*

Hero Quest, I remember it well. This was the first board game in which the goal had nothing to do with the almighty dollar, or getting your units, (whatever form they took) to a goal line.

I was enraptured when, on my 9th Christmas, I opened this up and began playing it with my father and stepmother, (both Ubernerds to this day). We did every mission in the original game in 2 days. My father then taught me Dungeons and Dragons and this fine piece of my childhood fell into some dark and dusty corner.

*raises his glass* To Hero Quest!
*drinks*

Also, I seem to have lost the nostalgia hat, who took it?

I sold my copy of Hero Quest a few months back. I have however, kept my copy of Battlemasters.

The GW/MB game of massed fantasy combat. Except for the inevitable broken spears and flagpoles, it's complete and it's not going anywhere!

I had alot of fun playing that game with my brother. Someday I'm going to get around to painting it up...

A guy in our roleplaying group has it, so we play it sometimes.
It's very much fun, particulary when the adventurers all want to have all of the treasures: "You won't search this room for treasure or else I will not kill that mummie", "Oh yea? I'm the one who has the holy water so I'm pretty much the only one who can kill him so you'll do what I say".
Oh the memories.

have two sets picked up from the local charity shop for £2 each

The second set was missing the dwarf, but I managed to get one from Games Emporium in Sheffield YAY!

that set will be used for the kids at our library's Study Support
Also got a Space Crusade, but with various bits and bats missing, so took the figures to the library and now some of the kids are playing 40k all the time now

is a lot of jolly good fun!

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

My brother-in-law has a copy and I played it with him, my wife (his siter), and their mum last Christmas. It was pretty fun.

Though I still plan to get my wife into D&D and Warhammer somehow

She did express an interest in Necromunda, so I will probably give that a go at some point

I've got 3 copies of HQ that I've picked up over the years. 2 at car boot sales (which where both battered and missing bits but where only about £2 each) and one complete one I got off ebay for a tenner.

There is a site somwhere that has all the expansionpacks and floor tiles as downloadable PDF's. If I find it I will post a link.

I was always very fond of HeroQuest but the one I really got into was Advanced HeroQuest which I think was the real precursor of Warhammer Quest.

I remember loving dungeon design at the time. It's actually got quite a lot of scope for expansion, would be nice to see it return in some form.

I enjoyed Heroquest greatly, but I found it doesn't hold up very well playing it now. This of course is for me and my friends. I find Descent to be a much better version of Heroquest and the models and props are really nice looking.

Was there a pitfighter with a net and a fist-spike? I remember playing something like this and falling down pit traps everywhere. Long time ago. Might not be HQ.

There was a pitfighter for WarhammerQuest. Not sure if there was one in an expansion for Heroquest though; the only other heroes i remember were the henchmen you got in one of the expansion packs.

There was no pitfighter in Heroquest. Not sure about the Henchmen you mentioned either... I think you might be thinking of Advanced Heroquest.

Heroquest had the base set, with the Barbarian, Elf, Dwarf and Wizard. The first two expansions (Kellar's Keep and Return of the Witch King) just had extras of the same monsters from the base set. Then Against the Ogre Horde added in Ogres.

The individual character expansions (which were only available in some countries) included an alternate model for each of the characters from the base set, and some new gribblies (like an Ice Monster in the Barbarian one).

So far as I know, there were never any different character classes added in.

@Ratius - Still a lot of fun from where I'm sitting, been using it to introduce my two boys o gaming on the sly. They love it as a game, plus I picked up a create-a dungeon box, so I can mess about as well.

It is simple, but that was half the charm.

@Insaniak: I'm pretty sure there was an expansion where you could purchase henchmen before you went down into a dungeon. IIRC they were armed with either sword and shield or with a pike. Hang on; i'll go check

Yep, here we are:

http://heroquestbaker.altervista.org/wizards_of_morcar_english.htm

The henchmen did make it a bit too easy though; i think the pike men had about 5 defence dice and 4 wounds.

Well, this likely explains why GW isn't releasing an update anytime soon. Licensing and business agreements being what they are this game may be destined to fade into the history books.

Hero Quest already faded into the history books. It hasn't been produced in at LEAST 15 years, if not closer to 20.

Fantastic game. I remember seeing this on the shelf at Toys R Us all the time - still have my copy in the basement. Sadly it failed to see much tabletime after Warhammer Quest was released. WHQ, along with Space Marine, are my two all-time favorite GW games.

I have been pushing for a Warhammer Quest game at AdeptiCon for years now, but I have just never had the time to make it happen. This year however, I made sure it happened. Four adventurers will brave the Domain of the Beast-king Friday evening...should be a blast.

I've tried 2 or 3 times to get some of my local 40K group and/or people from the Battle Bunker to play a WHQ campaign...just never enough interest. Sad.

Battlemasters! HeroQuest! Wow, I feel like a kid again.

I'm also another one who played the Noble in Warhammer Quest - it should totally come back. With the new Space Hulk, I wasn't that arsed, but I would deffo buy a New version of Warhammer Quest.

A friend of mine got a copy. It was interesting, but felt very restrictive as we already had AD&D 2nd Edition.

Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.

Exactly.

I tried trowling the intrawebs for a copy to play with the GF just because she enjoys dungeon crawls.

We bought Claustrophobia instead. In some ways even more fun than heroquest, even if you dont have a billion different monsters, but the cross breeding between hero quest and space hulk is one we have found immensely enjoyable, and even has already made some boardgaming stories which are amusing (if your a nerd ).

Had Heroquest when I was younger.
My younger sister and I used to play it.

Still have the treasure chests.
A few of the rats are on various conversions, and the Gargoyle stood in for a Bloodthirster for a long while.

I remember playing a Module for Neverwinter Nights on PC that was 2 or 3 of the missions from HQ.
The spawns were different, but the map and overall scenario were dead on.
IIRC, there was even a spot where you got ambushed.
I thought it was really cool that someone had spent the time to do that.

This for me is what started it all the classic that is, hero quest and as you can see with the pics below my two youngest are working their way through the first book included with the game

It's a perfect tool to get younger gamers interested although very simple it's excellent.

Recently have just started updating some of the miniature's and painting furniture etc and hopefully, I shall throw up a couple of pictures for you to see.

And with that said I have just got http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110497982212&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT#ht_500wt_1182 and hopefully it should be here this week.

Plus there are still is an active community trying to support hero quest, check out http://www.freewebs.com/phoenixgd/links.html
