I don't see this movie doing well. I can't figure out why he's a superhero, other than the epically cool " Surrender? What do you think the A stands for? France? " But then again I am not into comics very much.
-"Wait a minute.....who is that Frazz is talking to in the gallery? Hmmm something is going on here.....Oh.... it seems there is some dispute over video taping of some sort......Frazz is really upset now..........wait a minute......whats he go there.......is it? Can it be?....Frazz has just unleashed his hidden weiner dog from his mini bag, while quoting shakespeares "Let slip the dogs the war!!" GG

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

IIRC, that was actually the Ultimate version of Cap, who IMO is more of a jerk than the regular universe Cap and not nearly as inspirational of a figure.
I think there are some elements of the Ultimate version they can bring in, but personally I hope they generally stick with the more inspirational version of the character. I'd like Steve Rogers to represent the America we aspire to be rather than the America we sometimes are or are portrayed to be. At least I think the country could use some of that after everything that's happened in the past decade or so.
(And if you aren't familiar with the whole "Ultimate" thing, it's basically a side series of books Marvel does with reimagined versions of their characters. Rather than reboot their entire universe, they split it off as a side project.)
Regarding the character, yeah, he's barely a superhero. He doesn't have superhuman strength, speed, etc. He's basically a perfect human, physically speaking...maximum human strength, speed, agility, etc. He's also been trained by the top martial artists, military strategists, etc. That's kinda what I alluded to earlier about the character having similar potential to the recent Batman movies. He's more identifiable and inspirational of a character because he can't lift islands and throw them into space.
The tricky part IMO is balancing the right amount of gritty war stuff (because Cap is a soldier, after all) with the inspirational and even a touch of smaltz at times. Although he's a well-grounded character like Batman, Cap is ultimately clothed more in light than in darkness. I worry that Marvel's actually TOO close to the character to be able to boil it down to the right essence and get it right. That's what Nolan did perfectly in his Batman films.

I can kind of see that but I disagree a bit. With the Ultimate version they tried to play up the fish out of water aspect of a guy from the 1940's suddenly thrust into the modern world. It showed the difficulty of adjusting to such radical tech and (more importantly) cultural shifts. Now this is going off of Ultimates 1&2, as after the original team was replaced for 3 and all the reviews of 3 being very negative.
Since this will almost entirely take place during WWII I don't think this will be an issue.

Ultimates 3 tries too hard to be something it's not: 616 Universe.
Spoiler:
They mess with the characters too much: Tony's all mopey, Thor suddenly decides to talk and look like he's from Asgard(something he always knew was true but just now decides to change?), Hawkeye's all suicidal and decides to become the new Bullseye, Mutants were suddenly created in a lab and aren't actually a genetic mutation, etc.
Oh, and the Savage Land is suddenly just like Universe 616. They made it less Ultimates and tried to make it the Original Avengers, failing all around.
And half the book, Cap runs around as Black Panther, who's a real character in the story, but you only actually see in Ultimate Origins, WTF? Oh, and BP's a Mutant, to boot(it's how the find out that Weapon X created mutants).

One of the nice things about Ultimates was that there was an underlying origin for why many of the supers existed, namely the attempts to recreate the super-soldier serum. Ultimate line was a great idea but they slipped to easily back into old habits.

And so, due to rising costs of maintaining the Golden Throne, the Emperor's finest accountants spoke to the Demigurg. A deal was forged in blood and extensive paperwork for a sub-prime mortgage with a 5/1 ARM on the Imperial Palace. And lo, in the following years the housing market did tumble and the rate skyrocketed leaving the Emperor's coffers bare. A dark time has begun for the Imperium, the tithes can not keep up with the balloon payments and the Imperial Palace and its contents, including the Golden Throne, have fallen into foreclosure. With an impending auction on the horizon mankind holds its breath as it waits to see who will gain possession of the corpse-god and thus, the fate of humanity......

I have to Agree with mattyboy, while X-Men 3 was a steaming pile of gak,I don't belive it deserves the "worst comic book film" award,Daredevil,Elektra & Ghost Rider are far worse. ...and then there's always that piece of cinematic garbage "The Phantom",staring Billy Zane.

I dont know much about Cpt America but he doesnt strike me as someone that should be played by that fantastic 4 guy.
He looks abit lightly built ( captain america looks like... middle - heavy weight class ) , and that stupid smirk doesnt fit on someone supposedly very dependable.
I rather have Tom Cruise or Keanu instead of human torch.

Captain America's a superhero because of the fact that he started out as a panzyboy Art Student and took drugs to become a supersoldier and kick Nazi ass.
FOR AMERICA!

That's why they're using this particular actor, apparently. Steve Rogers has more of a swimmer's build than a hulking manbeast.

Tom Cruise?,Keanu Reeves?...Well why not Will Smith? or Johnny Depp?
I agree that "the Human Torch" is a bad choice to play Cap,but Tom Cruise?
No offense to you Luna, you did state you weren't very familar with Cap,and I wasn't trying to be "jerkish" in my post.....
.....Keanu Reeves?

And he does need to bulk up more. As fit and well muscled as he is, he is just not the right kind of build for the Cap.
Will be interested to see how it is done, but I don't have a great deal of hope of getting the gritty kill-a-thon that I want over the naff-ness that we will probably get.
Yes!
Set in WWII, with the Red Skull?
This could, and should!, be really good.
The later AVENGERS stuff will be harder to pull off...

Without a doubt, certainly one of the worst of the latest generation of Super Hero movies...

Marvel has pretty much made their intentions clear that they're striking all the older stuff from the timeline. From what I understand, they're going to redo Fantastic Four...at some point, with a completely different cast.

IMO after the 2 movies , its beyond redemption for the franchise. The whole FF4 team is like the geek / nerd brigade -_-
*edit , im sure anyone can pour enough money to save something , but i meant its just not feasible to save that wreck.
Easier to make new movies , like... teen titans or something

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

I actually have enjoyed pretty much all of the comic book movies. Yes even the 2 fantastic 4's, both Hulks, all 3 x-men + wolverine and even daredevil, elektra and ghostrider.
The only one I can truly say that I "almost" didn't like was the Dark Knight. The crazy Joker and the bat voice almost killed it for me.

I don't understand how you could NOT like "The Dark Knight". That was the best representation of The Joker since the Batman Animated Series in the 90s.
Joker's always been just insane, with a murderous prankster spree in him. The Riddler is the one who's just wacky and ridiculous.

There was an option taken out on a Strontium Dog movie, but I don't think it is going anywhere.
There is still a Judge Dredd reboot in the offing, I believe.
Personally, I'd LOVE to see Halo Jones as a movie trilogy.
A Sinister Dexter movie would be good, but they'd struggle to remove themselves from their Pulp Fiction roots.
Nikolai Dante is a cool character, but god alone knows how you would make a movie out of his story. A trilogy maybe, but I can't see that;
Dante 1: The Gentleman Thief
Dante 2: Tsar Wars
Dante 3: The Gentleman Thief Returns/Sword of the Empire/Scourge of the Empire
Skizz would be a fun series, or maybe a Doctor Who episode!!!
It would never happen, but how awesome would a Nemesis/Deadlock/ABC Warriors movie be?
The one comic I would watch as a film though? Not actually 2000AD, but created by Pat Mills: Charlie's War.

Best comic in the world. No-one expected it to last so long back when it was created in the 70s. They decided to keep the name when it became the sole meaningful survivor of Britain's collapsed comic industry.
