and he's actually a decent choice. Chris Evans certainly has the physicality of the part. Original article here.

Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.

I've only seen him act in the god awful Fantastic Four movies so my hopes are not high. Evans has the face for the part but his body looks more like a lean athlete like a swimmer; whereas Captain America has about 50 more pounds on him since he looks like a huge steroids-popping, ready for WWE wrestling kind of guy imo.

Also not a fan of the director involved (Jurassic Park 3 guy).

I do like Hugo Weaving as the Red Skull then again Hugo Weaving is bad ass in just about any role

All in all I have very little hope for this movie. Not only due to most of the people involved but also because Captain America seems like one of those lesser-cared about characters and one of the more difficult ones to transform to the silver screen. Imo his name, story, shield, costume, etc have not aged well and most of these qualities will likely see significant changes.

Well he's already played the Human Torch*, maybe he's going to play the Submariner as well and star in his very own Invaders film.

He's done well playing an arrogant jerk. See if he has more range than that. He was good in Sunshine too, but played the same basic role.

I disagree and agree. The character has aged just fine, if you've read Ed Brubaker's current run on the book. It's a very gritty, grounded, espionage-based approach to the character (rebirth story excepted). Heck, he even made Batroc the Leaper seem like a decent character.

The Cap movie is potentially Batman Begins + Saving Private Ryan, if handled right. Having said that, Marvel will likely muck it up. You don't have to go much farther than the title -- "The First Avenger: Captain America." Sounds to me like it's headed too far down the corny path (a little corny is good), and that's a shame.

Well, it is basically being done as a prequel for the Avengers movie but I do agree it doesn't exactly flow very well.

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

We need Cap kicking Nazi ass damn it!

And he does need to bulk up more. As fit and well muscled as he is, he is just not the right kind of build for the Cap.

Will be interested to see how it is done, but I don't have a great deal of hope of getting the gritty kill-a-thon that I want over the naff-ness that we will probably get.

I must say I had big, big reservations about Iron Man and they did that extremely well.
Even the redone Hulk was a massive lift of the one from 10 odd years ago.

Gotta agree, his physique is all wrong for Captain America.

I bet Chris Evans has feet and all sorts of crazy stuff.

I concur that he was surprisingly good in Sunshine.

Does anybody else think that the Captain America film from the 80s is actually not that bad? (aside from his fake ears of course).

I'll agree that the Captain America film from the 80s wasn't entirely bad,in fact it had alot of potential ...it just sort of fell apart in places.
However,it was infinatly better than The Captain America films of both the 70s and 40s.

As for this latest "vision" of Cap,guess we shall have to wait and see.

The "muscling up" thing is overrated. He's not going to be in spandex, head-to-toe.

Regarding the uniform,
Spoiler:
there was a rumor that in the movie, Rogers gets sent around the country as a propaganda device after Operation: Rebirth. When he finally gets sent on a mission, he takes the show uniform and adds bits of body armor, equipment, etc. So I think it's quite possible the uniform ends up looking something similar to what the Ultimate Cap wore in WWII.

Yeah but there are gay undertones in the iron man movie. It's all over the net, it's so blatant!

Never much liked Captain America as a character, indeed during the Civil War, well what I've read of it, he comes across very much as a petulant little brat. Gimme Tony Stark anyday. Even if he was a Skrull.

On the subject of other Marvel movies, X2 is the best I've seen so far. They really nailed X-Men in that one IMHO, with only Cyclops being underused.
