Ugh. My wife has a two name first name, Ana Marie, so it's always annoying having to explain multiple times that Marie it's not her middle name. Everyone, including the Pharmacist, seems to get that messed up at least one time.

My future Father-in-Law has taken to calling me 'Giles'. This is because his other daughter is seeing a bloke called Giles. I wouldn't care, but she's only been seeing him for a few months! I've been together with my missus for 6 years!
My surname is the thing that gives me the most gyp. It's Magee, and let me tell you - I've heard 'em all: Maggy, Majee, Mahgee, Mayjee...
It's pronounced just like the other one, the one with the small 'c' - 'McGee'! How fething hard is that?
And the one with the small 'c' can kiss my arse as well. It plagues my life. Because of that one, I constantly have to spell my name out loud to people.
"Ryan Magee, M,A,G, double 'E'..."
fething small 'c'....

I go by my middle name (my parents fault) so imagine the OP problem but 'cept with everyone.
Also I spell my middle name with one letter different then what is normal. So I have friends who have spelled my name wrong for years...even though I correct them.
I have name issues......

Actually, I do have a story!
For the better part of the past ten years, I was spelling my friend and gaming buddy Jamie’s name as Jaime. Now, as we mostly just see each other at the gaming store, I didn’t have a lot of call to write down his name, but it comes up occasionally. In email, and in writing down our names for a team tournament, for example. IIRC it was someone else on my Adepticon team, just last year, who asked me if “Jaime” was actually right, and so I double-checked, and Jamie told me the actually spelling. I felt like a bit of a tool.

I live on a street named "Caesar". You see that, where the "a" is followed by an "e"? For some reason many people assume I don't know how to spell it and I get mail to some similar address on "Ceasar". I've taken to pronouncing it "Kaisar" when I get asked my address, so I have the opportunity to spell it, but sometimes that doesn't work. On the bright side the mail gets through.

I have a couple of problems with people getting my name wrong. As my last name is Haines not Hines, Haynes, Hanes. I am not the underwear Haines! It has come down to me having to actually say i spell my name like the underwear only with an "i" in the middle. Also my first name is Christopher and my mom whenever i visit insists on calling me "Kissyfur" to piss me off.... i just want to strangle her when she calls me that. Note to self: Cant strangle mom when i go to visit her on Mothers day ill just have to let it slide.

My first name is Rory, and people always seem to spell it wrong, putting an 'a' in the middle of it. I have no fething idea why, because it's not a terribly uncommon name, and it drives me nuts. Most people don't notice anything wrong with the way they spell it, but when I first introduced myself to the my FLGS manager, he drew a connection between my name and Roary the Racing Car (you know, the children's show). He's started telling me to 'light 'em up' when I walk away and has the show's theme song on the store computer, ready for me whenever I walk in. Oh, and one of the other store workers (a pretty cool guy) has picked up the habit as well. Feth my life.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made. |

I've actually got two midde names, second being from an old family tradition where it gets passed down from first born to first born. Occasionally I have to point out that I just have one first name and it's not said with the first middle name. The main problem is that the local fish and chips place calls me John for some reason, none of the letters that make up my first name are even in John and my name obviously sounds nothing like it either Automatically Appended Next Post: Cheese Elemental wrote: I have no fething idea why, because it's not a terribly uncommon name, and it drives me nuts. People don't usually confuse my name but for some reason I know of two people who just call me something else, they know my name though. My name is Joshua and this one girl calls me Hector, which by the way is one of my middle names and one guy calls me Ray Liotta... Apparently I look like him (to him) but having nicknames is cool so I go allong with it. The biggest problem with my name is how common it is. Throughout my life I've had one or more people named Joshua around. Last year in school I had class with a Joshua, now there is one in my new school (ASE ftw) doesn't seem like much but this school has around 40+ people in it so we are together a lot. Finally, in my biggest choir, BCYC of the Bach choir, there are three permanent Baritones around right now, me, Joshua and you guessed it, annother Joshua. We all sit beside one annother and surprisingly there hasent been much confusion. Go figure

When I was introduced to the states in 1st grade, there were many 'james'-es in my classroom. We had to divvy up the nicknames, so we had james, jimmy, jimbo, jim P, jim D, and Jamie. Being english I had been called jamie as a child a lot. Later in life, I got tired of constantly being confused at who in the room was being addressed, so after a high school of being 'james kallend' as that is how they called me in role-call in classes, I broke free and became Jme again. That solved all the problems. I just spelled it more obvious.... J-me when I wrote my name. It's a nickname I can spell it how I want, right? Not a lot of Jamie or Jaime or Jme's out there, so I never had to worry again about wondering which 'james' was being referred to, and the odd spelling makes it pretty standoutish in other people's minds.
Y'know who I feel sorry for is politicians named Richard who became 'Dick' instead of 'Rick' somewhere in childhood. That's just a load of childish humor waiting to happen.
A guy in the town I went to college was running for mayor. His last name, I gak you not, was 'schmack' and his first name was Richard. You saw signs all over campus "Vote Dick Schmack". I never found out if he did that on purpose, thinking it would get the Beavis-n-Butthead vote of all the college kids but it was pretty damn funny. I saved one of his signs.
Another one, that would be great to get the Beavis vote, is Martha Fokker. I saw it in a movie long ago. It's just so stupid it might work.

My name is Jordan. For some reason, a few people used to consistently spell my name as Jordon. It was weird because even people who knew me pretty well did it. I always tried to correct them though and it hasn't happened in a long time.
One thing that does still happen from time to time though, is that I get called any other more common name that starts with a J. Usually it's something like Jason, but someone even called me Jeremy this year. It's kind of funny that they remember I have a J name but forget that it's Jordan...which seems like it would be easier to remember since it's less common, but whatever. I always laugh and gently correct people, or give them a good-natured razzing if I feel comfortable with them. It doesn't bother me or anything though. I'm pretty bad when it comes to remembering names, it usually takes me two or three times to remember (especially if it's a group introduction...those are the worst). Sometimes getting my name mixed up works out well though, as I can use it as an excuse to ask them what their name is again.
"It's Jordan, actually.....Don't worry, it's all good. What was your name again?"

So far I've gotten by with never saying it, at some point though, well, hopefully she'll let it ride

My last name is 8 letters long, and contains one full vowel. This is only a problem when people are either reading my name from a page, or taking my name over the phone. I usually expect to spend at least 5 minutes correcting their spelling when its re-read for accuracy.

My wife had her name spelled incorrectly on the air tickets we had for our honeymoon And people always get my last name wrong. It is not even as if it is uncommon, difficult to pronounce, or has a strange spelling. And it is almost always them adding in an extra syllable that has no relationship to the name as written as well - I thought people were supposed to be getting lazier, not making more work for themselves And my Grandma just picks names at random to call pretty much everyone, which can be entertaining.

Pfft - my own family can't agree on how to pronounce our surname (Koehler).
The half I'm in pronounces it with a long "O", silent "eh".
The wrong half (heh) pronounces it with a long "A", silent "o".
Considering that I've had Germans pronounce it with the long "O" only convinces me that I'm correct.
