Cool batreps, very nice matchup for a final game. I'd actually be curious to see the Wolf's rise to the top table as he's certainly using a non conventional list to get there, those were probably some awesome games.
Hmmm, if you're moving to Jacksonville you and I will have to try to meet up some time for a little DE on DE violence. Automatically Appended Next Post: Sergeant Horse wrote:I'm at the front left with the pepsi bottle giving a thumbs up.

Also, maybe I should say this in the painting thread, but I'm a rebel and/or stupid - your paintjobs were sick looking, very cool work.

Hey folks, just wanted to issue a little challenge. I'm the defending circuit champ, and I've been scrubbing it up with silly armies for the first two events (melee necrons in the first, carnifex stampede in the second). Enough of that. I got Fargo and Player A together, and we vow that Dash won't win the third one. We're gunnin for ya! Next time I bring my best list, either Fatecrusher or the Pain Train, depending how lucky I feel.

All in all, fact is that Warhammer 40K has never been as balanced as it is now, and codex releases have never been as interesting as they are now (new units and vehicles and tons of new special rules/strategies each release -- not just the same old crap with a few changes in statlines and points costs).

Even my own hatemail segment on Stelek's Ranting.
I lived in Jacksonville before Phoenix, and the gaming scene there is not that great. War Dogs is the only decent store, and they have a tournament every other month or so.
Orlando has a much better 40K crowd though, and I went there for a lot of tournaments. It is about a 118 mile drive, but you seem like me and not adverse to a drive for a good game of 40k. I even drove to Tampa (4 hour drive) for a couple of tournaments.

Where does it say you get extra movement from rotation? It just says it doesn't cost you any movement to do so it does not give or imply extra movement. I think it is fairly clear on page 57.
If your vehichle is farther than 12 inches from where it started and you deploy I would contend that you are breaking the rules.

You're misunderstand what is happening. The basic strategy goes like this; First off, most transport vehicles in this game are more accurately described as rectangles - none are squares. Second off the front and rear of the transports are almost always the 'short' parts of the rectangle. Third - if you rotate an rectangle on its center axis the two long sides will be further away then the short sides. So if I deploy thusly; ----------------------------------- <--edge of deployment line XX XXXX XX XXXX XX X's represent two vehicles, one deployed sideways and one deployed facing the line. Both vehicles are deployed legally. When you move a vehicle you are allowed to rotate it to point in the direction it is going. Now, consider what would happen if you rotated the two vehicles on their center axis - would one of them end up crossing the deployment line and, in effect, gaining a couple of inches?

I completly understand what is happening. I also don't want to take away from this win. The extra move clearly wasn't a real factor.
Gaining movement clearly violates the 'maximum' move distance rule.

No it doesn't. It's called "capitalizing on your vehicle's large frame to gain an advantage". Smart players do it all the time. That's how you form walls or give 2 rhinos cover with a land raider-spam list. In the case of open-topped vehicles, that's how you get extra-charge distance. Casual players may call it shady, but me, I call it competitive gaming.

They probably would if they were open-topped. But as it is right now, they don't gain any advantage to doing so, but instead exposes their weakness.
One of the things that separate a good general from a mediocre one is how well he understands the nuances of the game and how he exploits it. Sure, some of that may border on the shady or against-the-spirit-of-the-game side (especially from the "unawares victims"), but what they are doing isn't illegal. That's just the difference between a casual gamer and a competitive one. You don't have to like it, but then again, you have to deal with it because it does come up at competitive events such as tournaments.

True that.
When I have friends over to my house to play 40k its relaxed and involves booze whenever possible.
When I go to a tournament, I'm in a completely different mindset.

Good to see DE in action, nice report.
A question:
Is the table depicted in this batrep typical for this event or tournaments in general now?
For one it looks 'messy" as if someone threw a bunch of terrain up into the air and left it wherever it landed, and secondly it looks very sparse...
Always found it funny that most events require painted armies, that are then put down onto tables that look like ass.
Event organizers should get scored on their terrain presentation me thinks...
