Am I the only person trying to figure out why so many people seem to really hate Dash?
Is this a case of internet nerd rage and jealousy? Is this a case of "where there's smoke, there's fire?"
Man, I love the internet.

Man, I love the internet.
A lot of folks attribute it to jealousy. Its hard to be a man and accept that someone else is simply better at something than you. Especially when you believe its based on luck. Worse, you can't SAY that without more people thinking that you're an egotistical prick for saying it.
I get people who write blog posts about how much they hate me...and they list all the other people who hate me. And when I research if I've offended the people in question they're like, "Uh...what?" I get people who accuse me of being a terrible sportsman. But I do very well in the sportsmanship category in every tournament I go to. And where my opponents also post on Dakka, they show up and note that they had a good game with me. I get people who accuse me of using "Vassal hacks" to cheat on dice rolls, which is the only way that I could possibly do as well as I do. I get people who accuse me of cheating in real life because they disagree with something I do in a game - and even after 10 page YMDC polls overwhelmingly agree that it is legal, they still rail against me for being a cheater. And blog about it. And call people on the phone about it. And post in usergroups and other forums about it. And best of all, I get internet trolls who keep their real identity secret to avoid repercussions of being a douche in real life who show up and make wild accusations in my battle reports.
There's ONE common thread that follows all of it though. There's never an actual FACT behind any of it. Its always "Dash is a horrible sport," never "Here's an example of Dash being a horrible sport." And "Dash is a well known cheater" not "Here's an example where Dash cheated."
Vipcaniac, how about supplying me with your real name? And meeting me for a game? I'll arrange for a judge to be present to watch the whole thing. I'll even video-tape it and post it on youtube along with the pictures. Wouldn't you prefer to flame someone with real stuff instead of having to make it up?

The thing is, there are a lot of great 40k players, and none seem to attract the vitriol you do (except Stelek, who actively seeks it out). Even if you're not doing anything wrong, you may be doing something incorrect. I don't know what you should do, but something is clearly rubbing a lot of people the wrong way.

#1. As far as the heat goes, welcome to my world. Then the temp is over 100 degrees outside, in a large tournament it is over 90 degrees inside.
#2. I would not mind playing DoP again. I played him in a horrible mission when he played a rock army to my scissors. I would like to see how good he really is when he plays a real army.
Your opponent's mistakes where:
His army build: A couple of Multi-Meltas are good, 6 of them are awful. They are very hard to use because they are short range and heavy weapons. He should have had a few Lascannons in there and that would let him combat squad some for some long rage firepower when he needs it (like for killing battlewagons). Some armies you do not want to drop right next to, and some ranged shooting gives you some options.
His deployment: Turn #1 and #2 people are turtled up in their anti-drop pod deployment and sooner or later you have to break formation and go take the objectives. He dropped his sternguard down on turn #1 and he should have just dropped down his tac squads. That way when you break your defensive deployment then the sternguard could have dropped next to your battlewagons and taken them out.

Polonius - Dash steps out and posts all his games. He does so in great detail. He also travels around the country playing against different people who have different playstyles. This all comes together to present a big fat target on his back. A lot other players don't post their reports for others to see and become that target. Others just post the reports from their localevents because they don't travel as much. Dash and Blackmoor are the only two I can think of who do and Allan has been hacked about because of his footdar list.
I think Dash is just making himself a target. There are a bunch of poeple who appreciate his reports and enjoy them, but it makes him a target, IMO.

I don't mind 100 degree weather. I'm originally from AZ; I moved to the North later in life. I love AZ. When you couple 100 degree weather with 100% humidity....it sucks hard. That's Florida.

The man Dash is a decent bloke. Goes at a fast enough pace that you still learn something if you're new-ish but doesn't stop to crunch the numbers. (Which is a good thing). I mean, sure, me and him are never going to completely agree about my list, indeed I respect him a little for that, but the bloke plays a good game and I'd love to play him again.

Yep. Hulksmash is the only player I've ever met who can regularly trounce on me. Most of the losses in my signature are from him. I've learned a tremendous deal from Hulksmash in terms of gaming and sportsmanship. Great example: I let my opponents measure, template, blast/ordinance as they like. I don't check their model counts. Learned that from Hulksmash. If someone needs to cheat, they probably can't beat me anyway and it won't affect the outcome.
There are a lot of players out there that I definitely respect for having mad skills, but Hulksmash is the only one who has a pedestal in my 40k hall of awesomeness.
Now Hulksmash will put that into his signature.

Orks are an incredibly competitive codex. Look at the winner of last year's 'Ard Boys (guard player Darkwynn) whose closest game was against an Ork army that came very close to breaking his mechanized wall.
I have not met Dash, maybe he will come to Da Boyz GT in Rochester(?!) but he seems to offer opinions and does not tend to dance around what he means. This means people are going to have strong opinions one way or another about him rather than someone who is more diplomatic. That is who he is, it is not doing it 'incorrectly,' it is just being himself. I also like his pink army.
I have seen way more people get angry for candid remarks that are true but upsetting than for someone who is just in general a dick. Self realization is a @$#@&.

Man, I love the internet.
He recently got banned from an NC shop for terrible sportsmanship and drinking in a kid-friendly place, during the day he did nothing but complain about how cheatyface the sisters player was, and yelled at the nid player for not just opening a baggy of gaunts and throwing them on the table.
Personally, the only things he's ever slighted me with were:
Using his friends to call out rules he forgot for his benefit
Telling me I don't know my army
Informing me my black templar are jetbikes
Started yelling for an hour at a tournament about how templar are jetbikes
Yelled during the rant about how he goes to tournaments in california and how he does videos online that millions of people love(This somehow was supposed to change the rolls)
Played slow for the benefit of keeping grots on objectives
Pushing someone's models back(FOUR times!)
and last but not least:
Still getting his gak wrecked after all of this.
And there was the whole being drunken overly friendly at a tournament thing but it's not something I slight against him, he was plastered, and challenging my templar for one "final battle to decide who's better" was pretty much a given for someone with such a case of unwarranted self importance. They're plastic spacemen dude.
Not making personal attacks, just saying my two cents.

no personal attacks here....I just do not see any sportsmanship in rushing an opponent in their turn. I witnessed DoP try to force an opponent in a tournament past the assault phase in hopes that some of his units wouldn't have assaulted him.
Stuff like this just does not sit well with me. Repeatedly asking the opponent "are you done with your assaults" or "ok so my guys move in to respond" before he is done declaring assaults is just poor sportsmanship.
BRB clearly states that once the defender reacts, you are no longer able to declare any more assaults.

Heh Dash.. I suffer from a lot of the same problems you describe in my area. I totally agree that some people can't accept that luck does not determine who is wins or loses most of the time. Especially for some players who have very very few losses
In my case it's just a vocal minority no one really respects anymore anyhow.. but the best way to deal with it is usually simply ignore them and don't make threads discussing your prizes hm? :p
BTW, can i get some templars on jetbikes? lol

Not making personal attacks, just saying my two cents.
Just gonna start with the first two since you seem prone to extremes here.
1. "Did nothing during the day but complain about how cheatyface the sisters player was." I didn't even learn the guy's name until our round. 45 minutes into our game when he was still figuring out where to put his rhinos I went out back to ask the TO Mike what to do about a slow-player. He said, "Well...he's a slow player. Deal with it." I did. Had nothing else to say that day either.
2. "and yelled at the nid player for not just opening a baggy of gaunts and throwing them on the table." Nice. Todd's my friend. We were going to go to another store to game actually (SciFi had a tournament the same day) but decided to play at AF&G. Literally, I was outside on the phone with him during registration talking about whether we actually wanted to game there or drive over to SciFi for their tournament. Todd rarely posts on Dakka, and I'll save him the trouble of having to come on here and call you a flat out liar, m'kay? If you're referring to Jordan, the other nid player (which I must presume you are not) the only thing I said to him were "Nice conversions" and "feel bad for you for that mission."
The rest is gross exaggeration as well. Mark (Waggles) we had an argument once. About righteous zeal. You were right, I was wrong. Instead of me tabling you, it let you get a tie with me. Well done. I felt so bad about arguing with you when I was wrong that I gave my store credit for 2nd place to you, apologized to the TO and the store owner (she didn't even know about it but I did it anyway), and sent you a link to the YMDC thread about it and and e-mail with an apology. And I shook your hand and apologized the next time I saw you.
And....the rest of it is pretty much gross exaggeration and worse.

This is the last time I'll respond to you here, and since you offer nothing constructive, I'll ask you to stop posting in my threads:
In Round three of a tournament not being discussed here....but which has its OWN set of battle reports HERE, when you can't get through three turns in 2.5 hours with a 1500 point army....in a DOW MANDATORY RESERVE GAME....its time to start rushing your opponent. I wasn't worried about him having to stop declaring assaults, I just wanted him to do everything he was doing much faster so that we could actually finish the game.

He said, "Well...he's a slow player. Deal with it." I did. Had nothing else to say that day either.
You say extremes like I'm trying to troll you, not to point the finger but you glaze over a few important details that might have caused such idle internet goers to target you, such as the part where you never asked the TO what to do about the slow player, you specifically demanded the TO to DQ the sisters player for intentionally being slow. In all the time I've known that guy he just plays deliberately, slow and purposeful even if it's to his disadvantage.
Dashofpepper wrote:2.
I'll admit that was what I heard from our FLGS nid player during ard boyz, I can't defend it, but it wasn't directed toward your long-winded tale of Todd and how great a super awesome guy he is.
The nid player you condescendingly informed, actually remarked later that he wouldn't have minded the sheer arrogance had you not at the end of the day came back into the store to ask us "Come on guys, where's all the competition?"
Baring that in mind he now refers to you as "Everything wrong in the hobby"
But hey congrats on having a friend named Todd.
Dashofpepper wrote:The rest is gross exaggeration as well.
Tabling me would require you to be skilled enough not to behave like an enraged baboon at an infinitely small tournament. I'm unsure why you think I hold it against you, your second place prize money made one necron player extremely happy(He tried so hard.) and it was a great gesture. I just did not agree with throwing fits at a table and thought you'd like to explain the counterside of the story. Your many fans wonder why you could be hated, I'm explaining what might be misconstrued, and what is a negative smear.

I find it funny you call me a liar when you later claim to finish all your games when the second game we played you lagged out on me and we never saw that beautiful turn six looming just over the horizon of your grots taking their tactical advantage squeezing millimeters in each phase closer, then away, from a drop pod.
