I Used to have a Carnosaur in the army. I'd bitz ordered an old metal Stegadon head, carved it down smooth and hollowed it out and put on the Carnosaur like a giant Stegadon Skull Helm, and used it as a Stegadon being ridden by a Skink Chief. Worked out well back then because a character on the steggy replaced the big bow and all the crew, but now not so much. I've kicked around putting a Skink on a Carnosaur and calling it a Counts As Old Blood.
And I still need to pick up a pot of that Hawk Turquoise to give that a try on the gold.

I decided I did not like the Big-Block-O-Skink's Musician. That little horn was too small and you didn't really notice it, plus the Lizardman seem more themed to drums now days, so I made up a little Skink drummer boy. I'm also redoing the standard to be more in line with the minor theme of Plaques thru out the army. Be awhile before the Plaque hardens and I can make the Standard Bearer, but I can at least show off the Plaque that will be the standard.

Hope you were still able to find the thread. I had been unable to come up with a nice witty title when I first made it, but thought up this one today and decided to go with it. Anyways...
Been doing some work off and on with the Slann, who having dedicated himself to the Lore of Life, I've been slowly adding more leaves, more branches, and more roots. I decided I wanted a Plaque on my Slann, so I used the one I made for the Standard Bearer as I'm waiting to get a Stegadon and use the Chief and Priest bodies from there to make my Command figures suitably cooler than the other RNF. Also got the first gap filling done on the two main boughs and some of the roots. The inspiration I'm going with for the tree being attached to the Palanquin are those Old Trees That Grow Thru Fences. I have to stop working on it for now as I have a bad habit of putting my thumb in soft Green Stuff and ruining previous work when doing other areas.
By the way, I'm thinking of going with a Cherry Tree for the painting inspiration the tree.

Nice new name for the thread, and the Slann's ride is looking amazing! Every time I look at the box for this kit the leaves look cheese, but most of the modeling I've seen with it is great! Are there many other good bits in the forest kit, besides the trees themselves?
What are you thinking about painting the Slann himself?

Random opinion poll for the day.
I plan to eventually get a couple small units of Terradons in the army. As there are no winged lizards to base their paint schemes on, I'm planning on doing a couple different tropical birds. Then the other day while browsing random fantasy stuff waiting for people to show up for games, I came across the Wood Elf War Hawks. Since I'm going to Paint them as birds, why not just Use birds? So what do you think, get actual Terradons and paint them like birds, or get the War Hawks and put Skinks on them?

Caution on warhawks all of them have some sort of Face mask, but I'm biased I think Warhawks look cooler than Teradons, problem ends up being Your skinks will be surfing the Warhawks (not sure how they look on the new teradons)

You say that like surfing on a giant hawk would be a bad thing! The mask might be a bit more of a problem, but I figure the Lizardmen like to bling thier animals up, so I could just paint it gold and it'll fit right in for the most part.

I like those two. Hmmmm... Terradons or Parrots... I suppose I could always do one unit of each mayhaps. Got some other stuff to buy first so I've got a few weeks yet before I can even get the first one, so I'll think on it. In the mean time, I think the Slann is all done being detailed.
I think all the spots that needed filling are suitably well filled. Good number of leaves, not super even tree, but then real trees don't have to be. Never sculpted a dirt ball before, so I suppose that's alright. Got a couple of rat tails to stick out of it for worms. Sculpted a lizard and a snake into the tree branches, and picked up one of Reaper's Familiar Packs to add in a squirrel, raccoon and fox for some furry friends. Added in a second Plaque just because I thought it looked like a good spot for another one. At this point I think I have to call it done unless someone sees something I missed, otherwise I'm just going to keep trying to cram more details in on it and it will get too cluttered. Although I suppose I do also have a penguin from the aforementioned familiar pack I could always throw on as well...

Well I've got Some paint onto the Palanquin. All those branches and roots are going to make that tree a royal pain to get painted up good.
In the mean time, I picked up my first Stegadon. The Stegadon and it's Howdah go together Super easy. I was worried of numerous gaps because of the number of parts, but everything really fits together well, with clearly marked tabs and joints, and then parts that go over the joints to hide most of them. The only real spots I had to gap fill were right on the front of the face where the crest goes over the head. I may have trimmed down the injection points a tad too much there but it was an easy fix. Howdah's the same way, with everything fitting together like a breeze, and didn't have to fill any gaps there. Virtually no visible mold lines on anything. I used the extra crest to make more armor plates over the back legs, as I did not liked how the armor there suddenly ends and leaves it looking like a gap. Plus I want to paint this thing up turtle inspired, so I wanted more "shell" visible from under the howdah.
The Skinks that ride the thing are another matter. Mold lines in the same places as normal Skinks that have to be shaved off. Getting those two-handed Javelins to line up didn't really work out, and I ended up having to really gap fill their shoulders, and actually replace one entirely. One minor disappointment is that the Skinks are smaller than the normal ones, even the two character Skinks. I was going to stick a Skink Champion up there since I have a ton of extra Champion bodies, but he's too noticeably larger than the others and really makes it cramped. I want the Skinks to be removable, both so I can paint them up separate from the Howdah, and so I can pull them off as they die, so they've all got a thin pin on one foot that fits into drilled holes, except the two firing the blowpipes where the blowpipe has a pin that sets it into the mounting.
Never one to let good bitz go to waste, and the reason I'm waiting to make my Engine of the Gods with a later second Stegadon, I used the two character Skinks that come with it to make better looking command figs for the Big-Block-O-Skinks. The Chief was used pretty much stock to make a Unit Champion. The only thing I did to him was removed the feathers from his helm. His slightly smaller stature, less detailed gear, and that fact he's going to get painted in unit colors rather than the stand out Albino of the actual Chief should keep him from getting confused as one. Used the body of the Priest, the head from a normal Skink (i hate that bird skull helmed head), and one of the left handed Hand Weapons from the howdah crew, and have a new Standard Bearer In Progress. I made two Plaques that were intended to be used for his Standard, but since I did not have his body yet both in turn got added to the Slann. Now I've got the body, but no Plaque ready to go. I made up a new one, and will get that on him and get him all finished up once it's hardened.
Last, but not Least, a first small piece in what will hopefully be a series of Lizardman themed terrain pieces. A simple Magic Portal. It still needs a base and a near-by control tablet. I've not yet decided if I want to paint the portal or leave it clear green. If I paint it I can fill in those gaps where it didn't get trimmed quite right to fit inside the ring.

Standard Bearer is done, just needs a bit of Green Stuff to patch up the shoulder holding the Plaque, and I'm all out of Green Stuff. Some shots of him and better shots of the Unit Champion, and then the finished front rank's Full Command, plus the Battle Standard Bearer Skink Chief, and the looming second rank of Kroxigors.

Yeah, this is all seriously awesome. Absolutely love the palanquin with the tree. Reminds me of Laputa and also another animé called Origins.
My only slight gripe would be the mix of animals you've got going on on it. Obviously it's your call but I'd worry about keeping to a theme personally (same argument with painting the tree as a cherry blossom).
If you're wanting a Southlands (ie African) theme then I wonder how well a fox, a raccoon and an owl fit in. Also it might just be me but I tend to see the lizardmen as being pretty "racist" and only hanging out with other reptiles...
...please don't let my comments take away from how cool I think it all is!
Suggestion: If you wanted to gap fill the portal you could putty the gaps and then do a graded paint scheme that was opaque at the edges with thinner and thinner paint mixes towards the centre until you had it just pure see-thru plastic in the middle

Yeah, the Slann is a bit random, with a kind of minor Japanese sub theme going. I almost gave him a little Koi pond even! I figure his special tree comes from an inner garden inside the city, and is not just some random jungle tree. Plus jungle trees are huge, and would be kind of hard to fit onto his Palanquin. The animals he probably picked up during various travels and forays. In the end though, it's really just because I think it will look really cool and striking on the table as a nice center piece.

Teaser shot for my next project, getting my Carnisaur back into the action. I want to stick with the all Skink theme, so I decided to go with a model I otherwise did not intend to use, Tenhenhuin. As a Skink I do not like him, I feel he's too beefcake to be a Skink, but if I want something to be a Counts-As Oldblood, then he's the only guy up for the task. I'll have to take off his legs/tail entirely and give him a saddle to ride the big lizzie. He'll have to lose the heart, because I want his weapon in that hand, and the shield in the other so it does not cover up the armor he's wearing on his right arm, which is also important for the more durable role. His crest will get taken off and replace with something more in line with the other smooth crests Skinks normally have, though bigger and fancier to fit with the fluff of his Mark.
The Carnosaur itself needs his nose remade entirely. Had been ground down in the past to fit a big Stegadon Skull Helm on when it was a Counts-As Stegadon. Some gap filling around the joints. Assorted other cool details as he needs to be another center piece since when he's in the army the Slann won't be. I got more Green Stuff ordered today finally, so I should be able to start on this in more either this weekend or early next week depending on how quick the delivery is.

Another minor update, this time showing off some new movement trays I made for use with the new rules for Skirmishers. They use 1.5mm thick Plasticard for the base and spacers, and the edging from GW's modular movement trays for the trim. A good Paper Cutter is a near essential tool for these.
First one I made I measured wrong, and it ended up too small. Applied what I learned making it and made a better one, 5 x 4 in size, with the thought that when I form smaller front ranks to fit into smaller areas I could turn it sideways so the tray itself would fit into said smaller areas. Decided that tray was too big for the actual size of the unit, and cut it in half to make the two 5 x 2s shown below. Now I need to make a pair of 3 x 2s for Chameleon Skink units, and a pair of special ones for the Salamander Hunting Packs. When I get the Green Stuff in, I'll fill up the gaps in the trim so it's smooth all around, and when I decide just how I want to base my army I'll base the spacers to match.

And the Chameleons and Salamander trays are done. Went much faster/easier now that I got the techniques down. The Chameleons are just a smaller version of the Skink one. Salamanders get a more uniquely done version. Properly spaced spots got the two large bases Salamanders, a spacer behind them, and then spots for the Skink Handlers. As no measuring is done to the Handlers for any purpose, they don't have to be as precisely spaced. In addition I've got the longer goads on them, so I gave them more wiggle room to fit in there better. If I use more than the minimum six Handlers then I can toss one in the middle of the others or just move them along separately behind the formation, as again they have no need to be in any specific formation.
