utrinque's attitude to fellow users of this site is very diminishing of his character and of my view to his modelling abilities. Missing half your hand because of a birth defect or mishap injury does not justify being a troll that persists in casting insults to others.


Age, origin, race, etc should have no bearing on the merits of users of this site. However their actions and decorum should; this individual does not want to take his time to post in a manor understanding to that of others, and reaction to others offering said suggestions shows his view of the community. I'd say let him sulk somewhere else for some time; but that's not my call. But at the very least this thread should be locked as the OP is not producing images or opinions relating to this forums category and thus trolling ((in insulting manor as well)).


EDIT: I'd like to add, that there are often many times good excuses to people not being able to post with good grammar and English skills; such as those that do not Speak English as a first language or are only just learning the language themselves. But he has not put that out there yet, which would likely have been done if he were.

well, before it's locked, I'd like to say it's a beautiful paint job on the model pictured.

so let me understand..!! i get shouted at for typing in captials which i did not know was a offence.? and i explained i only just joined the site a few hours b4 and did not understand the rules sorry. 2 i then get told i have a spastic nature. 3 i then have advice that my spelling or grama is not up to speed. 4 it's then suggested that this min is not painted by myself un you expect me to remain calm..?? As for my injury i was explaining how it happened and why not having caps lock on wasn't really my main focus when i was putting my mins on here. As you can see if you spk to me tidy i will respond in the proper manner but the you did add the insult of me sulking far from it just dont like bulling tactics dont work on this soldier if you or admin staff wish to banned or block me then that your choice

1.) You got asked to type without caps, you got rude.
2.) You got asked to use English and not net speak /mega abbreviated or just plain bad spelling. You got rude. It's not like there is an excuse, Dakka has a built in spell check lol, you just have to right click on the myriad squiggly red underlined words you'd see while posting.
3.) You then start throwing out the hand and shrapnel bit, as if that makes any difference to how you are acting and what you CHOOSE to type. We are all sorry you are injured. We do not however feel like your injury explains 1 or 2.
4. ) Almost forgot, the 'typical yank' comment was just plain bad. You are on a forum with people from all over the world, throwing out derogatory nationalist terms in here also won't go down particularly smooth.

The other things you mention were people just trying to move things along in good humor, and or becoming frustrated with your attitude and baffled with your pride at barely being able to type 2 words without a spelling mistake. Then you are upset that people would prefer to read something remotely understandable if they choose to interact with you.

My advice, take a break from painting, take an English course or six and come back when you are ready to act like a rational person looking to join a community as a contributing and pleasant member.

It's got very little to do with caps lock (which is a fairly minor thing when all is said and done) and everything to do with being a d*ck to everyone and trying to pick a fight.

Stop, breathe and relax. Realise that people are more likely to be friendly and attentive to a post written in legible and punctuated English rather than a stream of consciousness, This is a text based forum; don't type how you speak; it doesn't come off well.

That being said, it's a nicely painted mini so good effort there.

Well I appreciate that written English can be a difficult skill for some, for various reasons (and it seems to be a disappearing skill but I'll leave that for the Daily Mail!) but as I said, bear in mind that struggling to read a post and trying to decipher what someone is saying naturally puts people in a bad mood and on the offensive. After all, most people come here for recreation, not to spend half an hour puzzling a post out because it is badly spelt or punctuated. It's the same reason Dakka frowns on leet speak.

The P&M forum is for painting and modelling, not fighting. Moderators police it strongly because we want it to stay that way.

Back on topic; excellent work on the original figure!!

Lighten up on the speling and capslock and run on sentences. Did anyone mistunderstand that? No? Well then I guess it is effective communication in that case. If things are ALL CAPS they are still quite easy to read. Quit nitpicking on people and just enjoy the paintjob. I think he did a great job.

Dakka, lets make an effort here; ok? It's been made clear that caps lock is not the way to be heard here. It's been made clear some felt pounced upon by the way that came across. I firmly believe at this point we should all forget previous insults and slights, cut each other some slack for offenses real and imagined, and get on to something that spends our time a little better.

I'm not telling anyone what to do. I am seeing if Dakka can rise to the occassion, and not circle the drain like the turd this thread is becoming. Sometimes, manning up is realizing that you, really, are going to lose only if you actually fight. Vigorous defense is essential, except when there is nothign to be gained by fighting, and no real way to win. There is no "Win" here, except to refuse action.

If i may paraphrase the immortal words of Joshua, sometimes "...the only way to win, is not to play the game."

Let us move on to games we can win, and enjoy playing.

Indeed, the point is not to say caps are the fountain of all evil (or even bad spelling/grammar, as many people here do not speak English as a first language) but simply giving advice that would prevent this kind of thread from developing.

31rls31 and Guitardian, it would help this dude out more to guide him towards habits that won't ruffle a not insignificant portion of his fellow user's feathers. You have both been on Dakka more than long enough to know plain, normal English encourages talk about minis, and leet speak and all caps encourage talk about leet speak and all caps. To be honest I personally don't mind either, but I also can't blame an older Dakkaite not being able to make heads or tales of hardcore net speak. Which is a shame, as these are many of the dudes with most experience/advice to give.

Anyways, both 'sides' have presented their arguments, let's leave it to the Mods to deal with anything further shall we?

LoL, i think this thread should be shut, and re-opened, so everyone can dismount their high horses and start again. This all came about because of CAPs lock one a first time poster, CHILL guys (sorry if it seems like im still in the saddle). Anways, i agree that the reds could do with maybe one or more highlights, just to give it that little extra definition. Still very good tho, and i could see others using the head idea for figure pieces or dioramas.

As for your other pics and threads, they all look very promising, keep it going.

Very nice standard, i like slightly weathered and grubbier models. Back in the mid 90's everything went really colourful, crisp, strong and comic like. I prefer a darker, dirtier look i find it is more in keeping with the Gothic 41st Millenium feel.

On a separate issue this guy has just joined the forum and is contributing a nice picutre and model, it would be nice if rather than abusing him for using CAPS LOCK, some one could have said in a friendly way "just a minor note, try not to type in Caps as it winds some people up" rather than the "Man, whats your problem there is no need to shout!" attitude which is actually quite insulting and not very in keeping with our friendly war gaming ethos. Anyway i'm off my soapbox

Keep up the standard and check out all the articles especially the Painting and modelling ones, i have gained alot from these (especially the Paynes Grey and quickshade stuff!)

I'm with Mwinciboo I like dirtier figs too. Lots of drybrush and ink and you get a grubby grubby Eldar. If that jerk hadn't stole my camera when he moved out I would post some pics :( but yeah... I play some grubby Eldar of all things. My Guard were even worse. Think 'Luke on Degobah" style grimyness. I love torn up looking armor, vehicles riddled with holes (use hot pin), a little bit of melting/cutting to make claw marks on shoulder pads. Old schooly was how I learned, and I can't for the life of me paint to GW standard today, just revert to the old ways of a base, drybrush, and wash.

Its definitely a good paintjob and conversion, but personally, I think the red should be a little bit brighter, he has almost a Blood Ravens color to him right now. I'm also not sure on the head swap and the pose, the positioning of the head and neck make him look too static and stiff. Great painting though, I'd love to see some more of your work!
