I dislike ultramarines because they were complete and utter *bleeps* to my favorite legion -> Alpha legion, with Guilleman constantly saying to alpharius "your legion sucks because you haven't got as many victories as my legion" which is not fair because the alpha legion had only been prodding buttock (no innuendo intended) for a fraction of the time, even though Alpharius was the one who managed to halt Horus' armarda, in small 1/2 man fighters held together by duct tape, then get onto horus' bridge-where Horus has realisation etc etc- a feat which I would have liked to see Guilleman do.

I don't hate Ultramarines specifically, I hate all Space Marines equally. Games workshop's love child with almost half the codices in existence that get updated many, many times more often, sometimes from one edition of the BRB to the same edition, forcing GW to put in more and more outlandish rules/names/wargear in a depressingly futile attempt to differentiate one power armored loser from another based solely on the color of paintjob the exact same model gets while other armies that actually have style and character are completely ignored. Words can barely express how much I loathe seeing another codex-hopping loser across the board from me with either totally grey, or if they're a real over-achiever primed, models that they don't want to paint so they can always jump to the newest, 'most powerful' codex every few months.

So Ultramarines are just a part of the crowd. That's why I hate, in part, them.

Why does this threat pop up every month or so?

Their fluff is disgustingly Mary Sue, their Primarch is a stuck-up scumbag, they are conformist, and they are a rare spark of light in a universe filled with glorious darkness.

A really good buddie of mine palys a beautiful UMarine army. I LOVE the fluff, the paint scheme. I think people love to hate them to be diffrent. They dont have any ryme or reason, just "you like em, we'll I hate em".

Not everyone hates them, I used to play Ultramarines. Now I play Blood Drinkers.

I wouldn't say I hate them, but I do dislike them. Pretty much for the same reason I really dislike John Cena in WWE, they're the poster boys that are rammed down everyones throats.
Plus their name has never quite sat well with me, not very imaginative is it - Ultramarines.

Plus they're my brother's favourite chapter, he reads their fluff and novels but doesn't actually play table-top W40K, instead he just argues that they're the best.

I quite like ultramarines, but i think its because everyone has labled them as smufs :/

People hate them because they're all over the boxes and have the most special characters. That, and their fluff gets silly sometimes. Most of it is okay though, IMO.

Also, people hate uriel ventris because of his idiotic decision to NOT declare exterminatus on a planet that the nightbringer was on.

I have heard almost everywhere that people hate Ultramarines, whether it is on 40K sites or in stores. What I never heard is why. So why do you hate Ultramarines??

Actually; I'm sure last time we had a poll on this we found out that people don't really hate Ultramarines at all... They hate Space Puppies.

He worried about the Melta Bomb because it would have locked him inside the planet and He'd Starve. The same could be said about exterminatus.

What problems do people have with Matt Ward's Space Marine codex aside from the fluff? I think it plays quite nicely. At the very least the fluff is better than the Blood Angels', which is a shame as I used to like them a lot. If I ever played BA I'd probably just run them as codex Marines or stick to the more sane unit choices.

Because Mat Ward ruined the fun for everyone when he fangasmed all over the marines 'dex. He is beginning to redeem himself with the WHFB 8th ed. book, though. He just need subject matter that he can't fanboy over.

The fluff in the vanilla marine codex is the entirety of it, other than that it's good times.

They used to be alright but they just seem too vain and douchy at the moment with the whole "The greatest marines however are the Ultramarines" that they seem to have everywhere.

I don't know what it is with Matt Ward but Blood Angels seem too much like Khorne followers to be loyalists, while Ultrasmurfs are almost vain to the point you could consider them Slaanesh worshipers. >_>

Personally; I kinda Hate Ultra Marines, I'll tell you why:

While they won a Great many battles during the great Crusade at the time of the Horus Heresy they were nowhere to be found(Flying towards terra but stopping on every planet on the way will not help Daddy-Emperor survive); then afterwards Robute pens the Codex Astartes and tells everyone else that they have to follow his guidelines or suffer the consequences. Being that his legion suffered very few losses during the Heresy(because they didn't really involve themselves beside squashing minor rebellions) he had the military might to back up said threat.

I think alot of the hate towards Ultramarines stems from the fact that they don't really do much unless it involves Tyranids or releasing the embodiment of Death on the galaxy.
