To paraphrase Cracked.com:
[Eldar/Human Hybrids] become totally ridiculous when you realize that, despite sharing a good 99.9 percent of our DNA with chimps, we're still genetically incompatible with [them].
Since the [FOUL XENOS SCUM] is way, way less like us than the chimp, this would be like saying a Komodo Dragon could successfully impregnate a human.

I've heard that in some very, very, old source that a human, an inquisitor, no less, had a kid with an Eldar women(if they're called that).

Despite this talk of genetics, where is this info from? that's right, GW. Who contradicts themselves many, many times every year? GW.

And keep in mind, as said on the previous but similar threads under "40k background",Wait for it.........THIS IS FICTION. ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN. NEW RACES UNDEAD ROBOTS ALTERNATE DIMENSIONS WITH DEMONS TRYING TO POSSESS US, WHATEVER YOU WANT.

It's from Xenology.

Stop screamin' "OMG ITS FICTION!!!111oneoneONE", we know that already.

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

Seriously, there needs to be a rule in Background against that line of argument. And these threads.

this is also from the RT era.

according to fluff that old the Ultramarines are based upon a desert world and scavange their equipment from traitor marines and their Chief Libby/astropath is a Eldar Hybrid.

Seriously, anything from 2nd edition back should be treated as garbage, along with anything written by C.S Goto.

Hang on a God-danged minute.

RT-era fluff and C.S. Goto can not under any circumstances be mentioned in the same sentence.

RT-era fluff is the venerable backbone to the entire game. Things might have been changed, but the RT-fluff is still the "father" of us all.

Now C.S. Goto on the other hand. He is a vile boil on the backside of fluff. Nay, on the backside of literary accomplishments everywhere!

Every Background thread devolving into "OMG ITZ JES FICSHUN GUIZ LOL!!!!1!" gets pretty tiresome. It's more serious variation "there is no canon" is just as awful. Additionally, there are a few threads that need to be stickied so that no one has an excuse to post new ones: human/eldar reproduction, missing legions, Tau are good/bad, femarines are (im)possible to name few.

YEs Humans can Reproduce.

Yes Eldar can Reproduce.

Tau can Reproduce

Nids can reproduce

Daemons..... I'm not sure. Moving on.

None of these races can reprocduce with one another (and I feel sorry with the poor bastard[IE Leman Russ] that has to take it from a Bloodthrister[See Home Improvement with M. Calgar)

Humans cannot reproduce with Apes, even considering how close they are to humans Genetically.

Tau, Nids, Daemons(Do they even technically reproduce in the same sense as Humans?), and any form of Eldar cannot reproduce with Humans.

I just think Dakka should lighten up on occasion, not just this thread, but someone (obviously new) started a CREED thread earlier and the responses he got were less than friendly, even though some of the jokes aren't half bad.

I grow tired GRIMDARK/GRIMDAKKA occasionally, difference of opinion I guess.

Anyway, I think interspecies in 40k is the same as interspecies in say, Mass Effect, you can do the deed but you won't get offspring out of it. And there may be some side effects.

Versteckt in den Schatten deines Geistes.

Too many years of sci-fi nerds watching Star Trek has left a lot of people thinking that Half-Klingon-dom is as simple as your mother or father having a few big wrinkles on their forehead.

Genetics don't work like that. For any of the 'Half-' species in Star Trek to exist all the races would need to be variants of humans.

The same would apply here. Eldar are not humans, so they cannot breed with humans (and vice versa). Sure, you could try DNA manipulation and make some sort of hybrid, but hybrid =/= offspring.

I wonder if the Old Ones worked in a way for Eldar to breed with Orks.

shudder

From the space elf perspective, however, breeding with mon'keigh must be just as gross.

How do we know Eldar do, either?

I don't have a copy of Xenology. In these kinds of threads, someone usually suggests that Eldar have mammal-like reproduction except that multiple males contribute genetic material over a long fetrillization/gestational period. I don't know if it's canon or not. Sounds pretty gross, though.

Given that Orks reproduce like fungus, I'd say that'd be impossible. I'd also say that the Orky genetics (genetikz?) would be some what aggressive, and would likely starve/destroy/eat the cells of other organisms if an attempt at combination was made.

Though if you want an example of hybrids in 40K - look no further than the Tyranids. Everything they do involves mixing the DNA of something with something else. I even wonder if the original 'Tyranid' even exists any more.

Or Kroot. In a similar way.

Is the division of the Tau species the product of genetic engineering, eugenics, or both?

Eugenics most likely.

To be expected in a caste system really.

in theory Multiple males can produce a single eldar offspring.

A single male can do the job over time by himself, but the possability of multiple males allows for genetic diversity.
