1 Troop and their dedicated transport can be deployed in DoW since that fills your requierment for two troop units.

sorry im confused here...not that im arguing, i can see logic for the dias counting as "hq"... but since i plan on taking vect in larger games this is an issue i need to clarify.

since the wording of the dias rules requires it to have simply "9 other models", and is a dedicated transport treated exactly like a raider, could one not argue that the dias was purchased "with the unit of troops" as well as with vect and therefore serve a "dual slot" or unique slot? i didnt read anywhere that a dedicated xport purchased with HQ counts as HQ, only that it counted as a second unit of troops (although it was purchased with troops). in fact nothing in the BRB indicated HQ could even purchase a xport, or have rules regarding that situation. the only example i have is the one stating xports are troops choices in DOW.

if im wrong please clarify how and provide refrence.... again not arguing or trying to be a douche, just want clarification.

My personal opinion; unclear. Check with opponent.

It's in the HQ choice thus it's a HQ choice that doesn't take up a slot... not hard really.

talked to some redshirts at the local GW...they seemed to think you COULD deploy it in DOW providing the 9 men were troops. simply because the dias is a dedicated transport treated like a raider. a few players though took diffrent aproach much like the debate here....so im unsure. still.. maybe just something to determine before hand?

The Dias itself is a DT which makes it three separate units:

Vect, Squad and Raider. Two of those are HQs so it's not deployable.

GW went out of their way to confuse people on this one.

No where in Vect's entry does it say he may purchase a dedicated transport.
It says, under Options "Vect may be mounted upon". Nowhere does it say this counts as a dedicated transport, just that he must start the game in it. This wording differs from every other codex I have seen, and from any unit in the DE codex that can take a dedicated transport.

RAW - I think the game breaks because the Dias dosn't really count as DT and has no equivilent FoC slot that it counts as.

When the faq comes out (if they address this) I believe they will say its legal to deploy in DoW since it dosn't count as any force listing, but then that will break the Dias when it comes to what it counts as for KP missions.

Checked with a friend and yes that box does say dedicated transoprt. I recant my last post, and say I pretty much don't care, its getitng a lascannon in the face no matter how you deploy it.

So I guess they added the whole "may be mounted upon" part in his listing instead of just saying he can buy the damn transport far the sake of variety.

I swear GW loves secretly reading these threads. This is to much to put at the feet of lazyness, it has to be malice.

This thread (and the OP) has so much wrong with it, I can't even respond with anything else. The rulebook is a great place to start when learning to play 40k.

I find it funny how these people are trying to convince themselves they aren't breaking the rules when it clearly says etc. etc. etc...

i agree that redshirts often dont know the rules and have horrible advice. that said, this particular RS does know his stuff reliably for the most part.

i can see both sides of the argument, and to me there are valid points on both sides. im done debating what the RAW means here.... its too much hassle and confusion for something that wont happen often in a game.

Personally i think the play here is discuss it with your opponent before the game, and if its an issue, deploy something else for sanity sake. or at the very least in the intrest of keeping the game fun.

I just read the DE Codex, The Dais is treated like a Raider so, Vect and 9 model that are troops and Dais can start in DOW deployment. There isn't any mention that the Dais is a Heavy weapon or takes up am HQ slot.

It's choosen in the HQ section thus it's a HQ choice.
I'm not understanding what's causing so many people problems with this?

Please read the Dedicated Transports heading under the Organising a Battle section in your BRB. Its page 87 in the big book. not sure the # in the Black Reach book.

Does Vect have to take the Dais?

Whoever had to take it, it counts as 1 of that type.

Example; Commisar yarrick a HQ, a Veteran Squad and a Chimera. If Yarrick buys the Chimera its counted as HQ, if the Vet squad buys it ... troops ...

You CAN Deploy the Dias, ALong with Vect and his unit of 9 (can be Wyches or Warriors),

As the Dias is CLEARY stated as a Dedicated transport, Dedicated transports take up NO slot in a FoC, Therefore allowing you to put Vect in a Dias, And his 9 units. This would count as 1HQ and 1Troop. With a dedicated transport. this is the same with any army who has dedicated transports.

I have deployed Dias in DoW in Provincial tournaments. therefore anyone trying to beat down this rule must go back and re-read the rulebook, No where in the book does it state the Dedicated transport. (that takes up ZERO slots in FoC) becomes a Choice of what the unit is (I.E Vects Dias becoming an HQ choice)

You're allowed to deploy the Dais AS LONG it comes with Vect AND a troop choice in the DoW scenario. However, purchasing it and sticking Incubi is NOT okay for DoW.

Also, why the fck are you using the Dais in the first place. It doesn't even have the Aerial Assault rule.

I suggest you calm down and read the last paragraph on pg 93. It is a clear example of how DoW deployment works. It also disproves your entire above post.
