trying Les bursley's method of applying wash. First marines were basecoated using my airbrush. once the colors were on I applied a liquitex matte using my airbrush. When that set I covered them liberally with a homemade ink wash. I let that dry and then used a big brush dipped in alcohol to remove everything but the wash in the crevices. I was quite pleased with the results.

I'm not a big fan of chaos models, however your painting is great, the subtle green and gold combined with the deep bases makes a very striking model. Nice work!

WELP, I just got this guy to a point where I can show where I'm going. basically I wanted to stay close to my color scheme but some variation. More damage, rust and weathering etc. for these guys.

a: adding details from spare parts
b: cut off the sides of a chainsword and wrapped it around the shoulder pad. a pretty cool effect I think.
c: Painting on some chipping and cracking around the legs.

thats it for now. comments welcome.

I'm glad I found this log - great painting all round!

I love how muted and pale the colour scheme you've chosen is, that's just what I look for in Chaos Marines.

Hey all. So here is my final update for the plague marines. I had a lot of fun with them and got to experiment with some weathering powders for their bases. They are ready for Papa Nurgle's blessing. enjoy!

Lovely and pale without being too dull or monotonous.

The weathering pigments have worked well on the bases.

Finalized my khorne berzerkers today....learned a valuable lesson, don't Airbrush matte varnish. It just dries dusty on the model. Just paint it on, goes on much smoother and there is no "chalky" look. I didn't do too much customization to these. I hated the default "one leg out" pose from the sprue so I broke the legs and made them more aesthetically pleasing to me. I also added a horn coming through the captn's armour and did the bases myself.

I recently purchased a citadel finecast nurgle deamon prince. I like him a lot. the details really pop on him. I don't like his face much though....looks like he's getting kicked in the nuts. so I decided to try and make a mask for him. just something simple and that can be removed if I want. The pictures break down as follows...
1. using autodesk Maya I made a very simple 3d mask.
2. I laid out it's Uv's flat like the mask was unfolded and set in a 2d plane. Anyone familiar with uv's will understand this concept.
3. I then printed out the uv's on a thick bristol board. I cut out two of the shapes and laid them on top of each other using super glue.
*at this point they are about as thick as a plastic sheet. Using the back of a xacto blade I scored the edges where the mask would fold.
* I then folded the paper into the exact mask shape that was made in Maya.
* I covered the paper mask with a thin layer of super glue. and at this point it hardened and was very similar to plastic. The porus bristol board soaked up the glue and once set it was not going to budge.
4. the mask was then covered with some greenstuff to add small details and I also added some horns and a nose guard piece from some leftover sprue.
5. you can see where I'm at currently with it. I like it but i'm not sure i'm going to use it. It was a really cool experiment and I can see myself using this technique in the future to build larger objects or details that could be added. It's kind of an involved process but since I don't own a 3d printer it might be the next best thing...
*note: I actually liked the mask better on him upside down that's why it looks different from the 3d render

Wow, it's been too long since I came here!

- Berzerkers are great indeed, that "simple" leg change just allows them to avoid looking silly!!

- Rhino + weathering look good too!!

- As for the mask... it reminds me of Bioshock's splicers, so in my mind it's hard to find it fitting for a Nurgle Beast.... But that Finecast model looks great, I'm sure it'll be awesome when painted!

I like the mask!

Just curious how you figured out how to make it the right size? Just measuring or was it some techno-wizardry?

Tabletop quality Orks for Sale. Plenty of converted vehicles. Moving and don't want. PM for details.
GENERATION 8: The first time you see this, copy and paste it into your sig and add 1 to the number after generation. Consider it a social experiment.

good question. actually there was no techno_wizardry at all. Unless guessing counts I originally printed out 3 different sizes of the mask around what I thought the size might be. and I just ended up doing a quick fold and picking the best size. Then, reprinted out on bristol the correct size mask.

OK small update tonight. Basically I have a ton more work to do, but this wip is mostly about the skin. I Started with darkflesh base, worked my way to tallaran flesh, used a vallejo flesh, and then some tallaran flesh, space wolves grey and bleached bone. It may be a bit too colorful right now. I might make it a bit more washed out. thoughts? <3
