The amount of heretics here, dont you get a clue from the fact that one in 3000 marines become a daemon prince, the rest being condemed to eternal torture/ spawnhood

Well its not like been part of the imperium is all flowers and sunshine. Dont need to be a daemon prince, just enjoy a life of chaos and see how it goes.

I would definitely not serve Chaos, but probably still be branded a heretic for my controversial viewpoints.

Personally, I would prefer to be a 'shadow Samaritan', of sorts, wandering the galaxy, attempting to do good, the system be damned.

I would side with Chaos. Might be a little short life if I was a traitor guardsman but same can be said about the loyal ones. If I was a space marine I would try to join up with the Iron Warriors or the Black Legion. The thought of raiding imperial planets is just too appealing. Plus there's the chance of living for thousands of years or forever.

It's the only way to be sure...

I would be. I'd end up being more loyal to the community than to offworlders and as more come I'd start down the same path as the Night Lords. Thugs/commissar/guardsman harrassing the market vendors? In the morning there will be nothing left but a blood stain and a pair of pants made of skin.

Of course, there is no path to immortality as a loyalist. Live forever, sleep with Daemonettes for eternity? Let me grab my pen.

Depends on what I'd be. A regular Imperial citizen probably has a good life, no all of them have to fight.

But if you were born in a zone of constant war like many are, I can imagine that I would pray to the Dark Gods for power. To defend myself and the ones I care about. A noble fall but a fall nonetheless and Daddy Tzeentch would laugh for having a new puppet.

If I were a Space Marine, hell yeah, I'd go renegade! I don't wanna die any minute on some random battlefield, I'd rather chill somewhere and be a huge coward who just plans evil missions or something. Only idiots are in the front lines!

I'd probably be inadvertently corrupted regardless of if i was a guardsmen or a marine Id be intensely loyal to the imperium and the emperor but when push comes to shove Id end up doing something that sets me on the path of corruption i.e Draw on more psychic power then i can consciously handle to smite a foe, use a daemon weapon to kill a otherwise unstoppable enemy or practise some kind of illicit method of increasing my own psychic power. Id basically be that isador guy from Dawn of war, until eventually Id end up so confused and mismatched by warp influence id end up serving one of the chaos gods or others.

I think the time frame changes the answer to that question. If we focused right before the HH I would go in the same direction as my Primarch. The Primarch seems to be referred to as a father figure to the Marines he leads. Most of them would listen to his guidance and views. Being a former infantryman I have had a huge amount of respect for some of my leaders which could have lead me to question a figurehead that left in the middle of the job. Frankly I feel that the mutiny was justified in the Emperor’s leaving to play bureaucrat back home when his men would have fought without weapons at his command.

Post Heresy seems kind of silly at times looking at the religious moments in the books. One side has a figure that is strapped to a wheel chair like a super psychic Stephen Hawking that nobody sees. Ok I will admit that people the 40k universe believe that they heard his voice but we have had people that experienced similar situations in the past century and we call them cult leaders. The other, Chaos, has the ability to deliver a raw power that many people would have a hard time to looking at and denying as it is summoned around you. Religion alone can have a huge impact on the society not just in its roots and laws but the mindset of the followers both practicing or not.

Just using real life as the example to show that many people today would be considered heretics by the Imperium standards; how many of the people that use this forum have served in their own countries protecting the ideals and the society shouting battle cries that ring with loyalty till death for their political leaders or worship that country’s dominant religion?

Personally, being a fan of the rock and roll orgy train know as the Emperor's Children, I would in a heartbeat sport some pink shoulder pads and a Doom Siren to walk around like Ozzy stumbling in a film shoot with Chasey Lain. Or looking at the religious fanatical Word Bearers I know a chaplains job that would equal the cats pajamas. (I love a good zealot; they always seem to be so passionate and crazy) Which side of the fence is this nerd on? Hmm... What has two thumbs and would serve the Dark Gods? This guy.

Yes.

Morality means little to me in a galaxy were I know I will be rewarded for doing the will of thirsting gods. Thou its a gamble and I might just be a damned soul for all eternity or transformed into spawn I'd rather risk that than dieing a inglorious death of a guardsman and having my soul eaten anyway by some horrifying monster on some far off world...
