Because the imperium is holding humanity back. The species is experiencing a psychic awakening, and the only way to defeat the ever more numerous enemies of man is to embrace the powers of chaos and use them to complete the conquest of the galaxy.

Don't you have GPS?

You are all aware that serving Chaos is typically extremely painful, right? To ascend to Daemonhood, you must endure an agonizing realignment of your various limbs and body parts, and to get to that point you need to suffer unimaginable pain (especially if you serve Khorne/Slaneesh).

Additionally, you would be just as expendable as under the Imperium, with sadistic commanders to boot. In their depravity, they would likely send you uphill directly into a heavy support team simply for the fun of it; very, very, few heretics ever achieve a role of power. Your best hope is to be killed quickly by a boltgun, lest you attract the attention of the Sisters of Battle and roast slowly on a pyre.

For all it's failings, I think I would serve the IoM.

And then Kharn would kill you. . .

I would probably be an Inquisitor trying to gain power over chaos rather than be chaos.
There are plenty of times where it is mentioned that using chaos safely can make you powerful, like in the DaemonHunters codex.

Not right away. But due to my nature, I'd probably start a slippery slope down towards Slaanesh, and not even realize it before it's too late, if I realized it at all.

As it has been stated previously, being a citizen in the Imperium of Man sucks ass, but think about this: The heretics are the scum and lowlives of the Imperium, they're alone. + they have sucky lives. Unless they were high ranking Slaanesh, then their lives would suck, but they'd love it and thank the Lord of Excess for it.

You can never use chaos "safely" its a slippery slope in the codex it talks about how some extremist inquisitors attempt to use chaos weapons or chaos knowledge against chaos, but your simply just exposing yourself to the taint I like to think of it as radiation, after a certain amount of exposure ANY human will be corrupted / killed we just all have different thresholds.

If the circumstances allowed, I would either become a rogue trader or join the Tau.

As a common Imperial citizen, I'd most likely drink the cool-aid and bask in ignorance. Just like the Ecclesiarchy says, "Ignorance is power."

Hopefully I wouldn't end up working for the Administratum. A job like that is the worst thing imaginable. I'd probably try to run away and become an underhive vigilante bounty hunter.

As far as chaos, I would never consider it. It's just too grotesque. I am content having the amount of limbs I have now, and I don't want to burn runes into my skin.

But this isn't reality and I'm unsure how it's the worst thing you could ever experience in 40k?

For me it depends on what type of heretic because there is more then just following chaos. There is deffecting to the Tau Empire or even just going off on your own seperate from everyone which the Imperium sees as being a heretic all the same.

If we're just talking Chaos the if I was a Space Marine then yes I would since Space Marines tend to have a better foot hold on the process and aren't so much cannon fodder as mortals. If I wasen't a Space Marine then no I woulden't unless I came into chaos by being turned into a chaos marine and if that happened I would already be a up, son of a in order to join them .

The choice in 40k isn't "black and white", it's "really really dark grey and ultimate, stygian blackness". Hth.

And my answer is no. Because even between grey and black, there's a choice. Amalathian supremacy. Imperator defendit.

I would never turn from the Imperium of Man it'd be like turning against your own kind and no one likes traitors.

Also why would you want to be a Daemon? Do you really want to look like that for the rest of your life?

I've got to go with the radical inquisitor line of thinking, either Xanthite or Istvaanian.

Worshiping the ruinous powers is just outright foolish, not least of which because they care even less about their followers than the Imperium, and the "rewards" they grant come in the form of mutation and daemons to slaughter you.

Your fellow traitors would loathe you the more powerful you became and would most likely attempt to betray you to get closer to daemonhood rather than help you.
