@ tehbarry- Those are Ripper Jacks from the old Necromunda range. You can find them on eBay every now and then.

@ Theofilos- I'm glad you enjoyed it. Stop back by, more is coming!

@ spencertheman- thanks for the clarification. I looked it up after I posted this. Should have done my homework before I posted.

@ lord marcus- AWESOME! I've been hoping other people would post their ancient metal here. I have the two models in the back (Mago Maxwell and his cloaked counterpart) but I never painted them. If you have more to share, please do!

On that note, if anyone has anything they would like to share here they are absolutely encouraged to do so.

The cloaked model is actually a resin cast from Troll forged. He just looks deceptivly like his older counterpart. Funny thing, I received Magos maxwell unpainted as a secret santa gift. I have a thing for mechanicus stuff and i always want more. its why i've been trying to organize a system where i can swap bionic bits with people.

I always like the old bloodletters better, they are more alien/demonic looking, the newer ones looked like big red guys.

I wish I had kept my childhood minis in reasonable condition, but I suppose you don't know how much you'll wish you kept them when your that age.

@ lord marcus- I have been looking for those miniatures and I can't find them! I've torn apart every place that they would logically be. I'll start looking in weird places next. I will post them as soon as I find them.

@ Andrew1975- I get the whole "twisted by the warp" thing but I'm always going to like these better:

@ Rayvon- I have 9 in all, if you'd like I can post the lot of them. There's at least one of the old models I do not have, perhaps someday I'll eBay for it.

@ deejaybainbridge- I agree. I'll always love the old models but the newer sculpts amazing me when it comes to detail. More are coming, I'm going to dig out my WFB Chaos and Undead soon.

@ dantay_xv- I'm a huge fan of weety and have credited her w/ inspiration on some of my paint jobs. And speaking of weety...

@ weetyskemian44- Yay! I'm glad I could finally return the "favor". I've gotten completely lost in your blog before. I'll be posting a lot more stuff before long, it's easier to update threads w/ stuff I've already done that keep up w/ my other two blogs. Ha.

@ 92acclude- Almost everything (except the Death Guard) is stuff that painted back in the day and profiling now, but I'm going to start getting back into my RT / 2nd Ed stuff because what I would really like to do is actually paint the stuff I have had around for years. I know I'll never get to all of it, but the things I can actually put on the tabletop deserve to get finished.

Thanks all for your comments, it's really appreciated! I'll be posting more pics soon. If anyone has any requests I'll see if I have it and post it here. And remember that everyone is invited to post their old RT / 2nd Ed stuff as well. I'd like to see this thread become a community project if possible. There's so many people with so much great stuff from back then, it would be awesome to compile some of it in one place.

I'll be back with more memories soon!

I understand, but to me those just look like everything else. Those could be red painted beast men. I liked chaos when it was more chaotic. Monsters looked like monsters and chaos marines were not just spiky.

Ok, got round to digging out the remains of my old 'stealer cult (those that haven't seen the light and joined the guard or turned completely to chaos). Hybrids, scavvies, tech-gangers and pirates, with the last few having already lost their arms in preparation to moving faction.

Genestealer Cult!!! Yes!!

That's a great collection you have there. I know what you mean about losing Cultists back to the "light" of the False Emperor or embracing the entirety of Chaos (all of my 2nd Ed Cadians got pulled from the Cult and put back in my IG force, and some of my weird mutie but still human models went to my new Cultists list I'm working on right now).

Now I want to go pull more of my Genestealer Cult out! Thanks for posting that, looking forward to anything else you feel like sharing.

I was going to post more of my own Genestealer Cult but when I started getting into things I thought instead I'd post my old Tyranid army.

I remember the very first time I saw Genestealers. They were in a box set at a game store in Hawaii called Jellys. I looked at them for a bit and decided they were pretty cool but I had no idea what they were (I hadn't been shown the light if the True Emperor yet). A short while after this I bought the original Space Hulk game and man I went back to Jellys and bought ALL their Genestealers. I started a Cult force shortly thereafter. It never saw the tabeltop until '96 or '97 becasue it took me a long time to actually get it built up enough to play. As with most things I went way nuts with it and wound up with around 160 Genestealers. When the Tyranid Codex came out for 2nd Ed I figured I already had a Tyranid army so I just needed to fill a few pieces in.

Since getting back into 40K in 5th Ed I've bought the new Tyranid Codex and it looks pretty awesome but I just haven't gotten into it. Things have cnaged a lot and I'm just not feeling the interest. I did try playing a 100% Genestealer list, and it was great fun for my opponents to crush me. I haven't tried again.

Anyway, here's my Tyranid Army.

Genestealers

Green, white, brown, red... whatever. Genestealers are blue and purple. I'll never see them as anything else. But the rest of the Tyranid list was all sorts of wild colors, none of which I thought really worked with Genestealers. I had a few models already painted in GW Tyranid colors (A Carnifex and a Lictor) but then I had an idea. I traded the painted models w/ a friend of mine for bare metal and started over. I used the Genestealer color scheme straight through my entire army.

Hive Tyrant

RRRaaaaggghhhhh!!! Man I just love this model. I remember painting this and not having much fun w/ it at first because I knew the model deserved more skill and attention than I was giving it. I kept going though, and while the finished product on this model (indeed, my entire army) is not anything I'd ever enter into a contest I'm satisfied with my results.

Zoanthrope

I played this model only a few times because I was really more intent on the rip / crush / consume aspect of the Tyranid list.

Lictor

I have 2 of these, but the other one was converted into a Tyranid Prime for my 5th Ed. Genestealer HQ. I used to play these every single game I played. The psychological aspect of having it in my list, just sitting on the side of the table, waiting to deploy into the forces of my enemy... the stats for the Lictor says it cases Fear. Yes, it did.

Carnifex

Also known as the Screamer Killer, it was almost always the heaviest-hitting model on the table. And at 199 pts before Biomorphs it should have been. An absolute monster both figuratively and literally. After I played one the first time it started attracting a lot of attention... usually in the form of Lascannons. So I bought another one and let them play on the tabletop together.

Tyranid Warriors

I have... 12 of these? Maybe more, not really sure right now. I usually played these as CC troops w/ Boneswords but after a while I painted these up with 2 Deathspitters (stock model option) and a Barbed Strangler (conversion w/ leftover bit from the Hive Tyrant kit) to change things up a bit. These are the only Tyranid Warrior models that got the "Genestealer" color scheme, I never got around to finishing the others.

Bivore and Spore Mines

I'm missing one Spore Mine. Hmm. Anyway, being an Ork player primarily back when I was experimenting w/ 'Nids, I absolutely HAD to have this in my list. The entire table was in range, it scattered minimum D6 from where I shot it, but if I "missed" it was ok because the mines just drifted around looking for something to blow up on. Loved playing this against my friends IG.

Hormagaunt

I got these towards the end of my Tyranid experiment. They aren't finished because of that. Base colors are good but no shading. In game terms these were a decent alternative to Genestealers in CC at 13 pts apiece w/ Sharpened Claws biomorph and could be in broods of 24 where Genestealers were 28 pts and could only field 12 in a brood. In game terms it made sense to try playing them. In real-life finances it was insane! GW priced me out of these and after getting 12 I was done. I never did get to see if they were worth it or not.

Termagaunt

I have these in metal and in plastic. This was the prototype, the very first model I painted in the Genestealer theme. It was also the only Termagaunt that was painted this way, the others were based blue and that was it. The interest in playing the army started to fade as the clarion call of Chaos grew ever louder and I returned to the Black Crusade.

It was a fun experience and if nothing else it was unique in my gaming group because out of at least 20 people I knew who gamed, I had the only Tyranid force.

That's all for this one. More coming soon. Thanks for reading and as always I encourage other people to post their RT / 2nd Ed stuff. No matter what comes in the future of wargaming I will always have a place for old miniatures.

Not appearing in this list- Ripper Swarms. I have no idea where they are.

I pulled this old Daemon Prince out the other day, had to do some repair to his CCW, it's not the original. Not sure where the original is. Hmm.

Also painted up some more old CSM for my Plague Marines. Some are original plastics, some RT / 2nd Ed. Metal, some 2nd Ed CSM plastic.

Cruising in my CRASSUS ARMORED ASSAULT TRANSPORT

A year or two ago, I found a pack of Bugman's rangers rotting from dust under a shelf at my FLGS (the store's old, okay) It turns out that they are over 20 years old, and were removed from inventory about 17 years ago when they went missing. I lovingly painted them and are now the stars of my WHFB collection. I should take some pics of them with my new Nikon and post them.

Happy Holidays!
