Some folk be a trolling

I fail to see why a space wolves player is complaining about a new toy another comparable army has. Unless all he uses in is super list is melta spam to stop tanks. Methinks changing the list up a tad would do well for you. Then again I have lascannons and railguns on the field to kill tanks with instead of relying on the melta. Course my orks have a lot more trouble killing tanks than your sissy wolves ever will.

I must say I like the model though and the fact that many players will now enjoy destroying a vehicle that went flat out, and the models inside, ahhahahahaahhahahah!

What's funny is I'm a Wolves player, and I run melta-spam (total of 8 meltaguns and 2 multis) - but I'm still not worried about it. Then again, I run 10 Long Fangs with Missiles, so there.

Oh, and unless I'm mistaken, you can't blow it up and get rid of what's inside if it went flat-out - that's player turn, not game turn. (If it happens to move flat out and destroy itself on its own turn, you'll lose what's inside. Not if it goes flat out and the other player shoots it down)

I think calling this guy a troll is giving him too much credit.

I prefere my Thunderhawk Mark II, bigger and carries more troops and rhino sized vehicles for 900+ pts

unit isnt really BS. its costed right and will get shot down easy enough. Doesnt have scout or infiltrate so not really worried about it. Only thing that makes me ಠ_ಠ is that it can change out its TW heavy bolters for a TW multimelta for free.

You're 0 for 2. SRs aren't Tanks so may not Tank Shock therefore cannot be DoGed.

Your buddy was wrong. While the Feb White Dwarf contains the Stormravens rules, nowhere does it say that any Space Marine faction can take it

Well this is straight from him, and he works at GW, and i dont suspect hes pulling my leg.

Considering that people already have the Feb White Dwarf, and have confirmed that it doesn't have anything stipulating anyone other than Blood Angels can take a Stormraven, your friend is wrong, regardless of whether or not you believe him.

GW have published the rules for codex units in white dwarf before, usually whenever a new kit/unit is released and they want to convince people to buy the model. No, it does not unlock it for all chapters, the primary reason why it doesn't is that the rules entry in the white dwarf printing doesn't say which force org slot it falls under. The Nightspinner for the Eldar for instance, said that "The Night Spinner is a Heavy Support choice for Codex: Eldar armies." The stormraven rules in White Dwarf doesn't say that anywhere.

Oh noes, my wolf army that can bring 20+ missile launchers is totally boned by an AV 12 vehicle!

A mini-thunderhawk fit the fluff for me. There are many missions (like recruitment, or a small investigation into something) that requires less than 30 marines. One or two of these would suit.

I doubt that. GW rarely releases a new unit in WD for a codex that has been updated that edition. If so, I hope not in 5th ed. let it be exclusive to GK and BA for the next year or so IMO.

Blood Angels has been out for awhile now , and its not a surprise anymore that new armies often get some very OP toys to get the players excited... bit of encouragement i guess?

Regardless, the Stormraven's rules are in the February White Dwarf.

Nowhere does it say "The Stormraven is a Heavy Support choice for a Codex: Grey Knights, Blood Angels, Dark Angels, Black Templars, Space Wolves, and Space Marines army", which would indicate that they just reprinted the rules as a throwback to how they'd do White Dwarf every so often back in the day where a major new release included a retread of the rules.

It's kind of a "preview" mechanism for your opponents who had not seen it before.

On paper it looks better than it is in-game.
stormraven- It normally hides turn 1, zooms ahead 12" turn 2, and either drops them turn 2 or fires at any nearby threat turn 2 and drops them turn 3. It then kills, say, a tank or 5 marines then dies.
infrantry- either kill something and die next turn or get shot up.
Dread- glass hammer IMO- In CC, most units now have power fists, and at range there's a lot of melta spam floating around. It normally kills a few guys/a tank and dies.
really, the most common thing I've seen put in it are sanguard (200pts) or DC (140). Then there's a dread (105 min.) and then there's the stormraven itself (200)
So if DC and a dread are in it, it's 445pts in one place. Then there's the wargear and different weapons options. You could potentially have 1035pts in one thing. If you kill that...

Dude you should drink a cup of tea and calm down, then take a look at the sw codex: tactical/assault marines with backpacks for 15 points!!!!!

Oh god no I do not want spacewolves being able to fly around in a flying vechile, with at least 3 of these things and 20 missile launchers aimed at my army. I do not want GW to release an entire army of rampaging drunken vikings with air support. God that sounds familiar. And to the OP, you kinda failed in that a lascannon + Storm Raven = Dead Storm Raven.
You just need to shoot it with anything with a 8+ Strength and its dead.

The last thing we need is SM riding giant wolves charging at us, 10 ML pointed at us, while having to worry about 12x 15pt ECCW SW's flying around in AV 12/12/12 fast skimmer land raiders with Bjorn hanging on the back.

Site I use is Wikipedia....Thunderhawk....from there you can see the history of the Stormhawk.....all the way to Storm Raven in one blog and even find stats from there to lead you to stats that are legal. Besides I bet a new Armor Book will have to be made just to handle the fluff for this kind of craft.

Shrike, while thunderwolves are a pain, its JotWW that annoys me most

You mean the Stormbird?

It's nearly triple the size of a Thunderhawk. It could carry an entire Chapter at once, not a Company or Strike Force.
