I can see where you are coming from but they also were one of the groups that pushed music away from being all hair metal bands. I can appreciate the sea change they were part of instigating in mainstream music while also recognizing that we have moved on from those early days. The Unplugged in New York album is still a great album though.

Likewise. I still listen to some of the punk I listened to in my teens, but I've widened my musical tastes quite a bit. I can really only think of a few active punk bands that I still follow.

And yeah, many punk bands are lacking in musicianship, but they more than make up for it in heart and creativity. It's amazing what old bands like The Saints, The Ramones, and The Stooges can do with only a few chords.

Well...the whole idea of Punk (the sound at least) was to move away from the overblown, over produced and over complicated sound of arena rock bands of the time...which they did.
Personally I'll take the Ramones over Jethro Tull any day.

Oh indeed,I got my first Ramones record when I was 12 (almost 30 years ago) and there hasn't been a day in my life since that I haven't listened to them.
I was fortunate enough to see them live several times as well and am actually saddened that I'll never have that chance again.

I like lot's of mainstream artists like Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Metallica, Pink Floyd, Iron Maiden, etc. But I also listen to less well know artists like King Crimson, Possessed or Blue Cheer I couldn't give a rat's ass if a

song is popular or not just as long as I like it.

The bands I listened to in highschool I still listen to.
The bands I discovered later, I still listen to.

Usually, if I didn't like them to start with, I still won't listen to them. The exception so far is Daft Punk's Tron:legacy sountdrack. The rest of their stuff is a frisbee or coaster, from my pov.

@Son_of_Deddog: The last release from FF I got was Demanufacture/remanufacture. I don't get a lot of music.

That's my view but i know a lot of people who seem to value the 'elitist' part of liking a band.

I think one of the reasons some people (like hipsters) brag about listening to obscure bands because it's hard to criticize something you've never heard of so they don't have to worry about other people disapproving the

band.

Totally. I just find it difficult to take Cobain seriously these days. When I was 13 I thought he was Jesus, though.

The Unplugged in New York album is still a great album though.

I will respectfully disagree. Now, Alice in Chains Unplugged.... THAT is awesome. Why don't they do Unplugged sessions anymore?

For me, hands down are Greenday and Blink 182

Both bands did exactly the same thing:
'Lets play punk, it's not real punk, but it's close enough'
*2 albums later...*
'Hmm, this 'EMO' milarkey seems to be making a tidy sum, lets play that instead!'

After American Idiot/Blink182s self-titled album came out, I wanted to torch their musical equipment for the horrific whiny 'black-and-white-photo-of-me-crying-in-the-attic' filth they called music.

As a hardcore Foo's fan, I'm confused at that one, the band pretty much has got stronger with every album. In fact with Wasting Light and the return of Pat (yay!) its more rough feel, it has much more in common with the early stuff.

As to my own, I've been trying to think, I've sorta gone off a couple of bands, but like FITZZ there are few bands I'd not pick up and listen too once I've been a fan at some point. It's more of a case of them falling out of favour rather than me disliking them. Still have plenty of songs I'd listen too, but Red Hot chilli's for example, wasn't a big fan of their last album apart from Dani California so I've not put a chilli's album on in months.

I'd say Green Day, but the only thing of theirs I ever liked was only their first album.

Also, System of a Down. Their newer political preachy BS turned me off to them forever.

Were they? Never owned any of their disks. Seems more overt in their later stuff.
