PP quite aggressive hey? I think they smelled the blood on the water and are in for the kill... I mean crazy good warmachine starter, new sci fi, big crazy machines etc

Level 7 I like that name, simple and catchy... now lets see the game, as long as its not prepainted I'm happy.

Stupid! They shouldn't have said anything until a week before the game was released! Do they know nothing about business?

To be fair, GW gets criticized when they do announcements, such as Incoming! emails, without any accompanying photos or info, as well. People wanna hate GW regardless of what direction GW takes in engaging their customers.

To really be fair, one has to keep in mind that there is a world of difference between;

"We are doing a sci-fi game called "Level 7"..more at Gencon"

and

"We are making some amazing stuff....stay tuned".

It sounds like a boardgame to me. Well, let's see where this is going!

The one picture they showed I hear was of a partially open, grundgy looking door, so yeah, I'd agree to it being their version of space hulk rather than a scifi Warmahordes.

On thesubject of plastic, they also announced plastic warbeast kits next year. I think I also heard mention of character beast upgrade kits like the Jacks get.

Oh, and we also get to see eeAsphyxous and eeLylyth next year as well. Maybe more.

Good news, I have a soft spot for space corridors infested with aliens games.

...Summer of next year, the first product in Privateer Press’ all new science fiction setting Level 7 will be released worldwide.

So L7 is one product in a new sci-fi setting. Possibly a board game as an entry level product into the game/setting?

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

Not a fan of the warmahordes look or fluff (what little I know of it), so would be interested if L7 were a different style of game setting.

They started releasing plastic models some time ago... It's not regular polystyrene, but still better than metal. In fact, given the detail level in their plastics, it's probably better that they went the way they did instead of just using polystyrene like everyone else.

I'm not a fan of PP's plastics :-/ although they do SLASH the prices for plastic models (i.e. pass on the savings). I love their metals, though...

Looking forward to hearing more about this game!

I'm betting Necromunda style intro---then slowly ramping up to a traditional game. It would fit their MO----and I'm pretty excited about it.

Also just found the original quote.
So Level 7 is a new SciFi SETTING with several products! Not just one product like a boardgame.
I agree that Privateer has smelled blood now (like Mantic) and grabs the opportunity of a tabletop market thrown away by GW management.

If it were a all encompassing starter box with terrain and everything, and could also be used to expand into a larger game in the same setting, I'd be in. What I like about PP is the relative ease and low cost to pick up a box and you have a playable force. I'm eager to see the design of the setting. If they can get far enough away from the established look of WM while still remaining a uniquely PP style.

You can never beat your first time. The second generation is shinier, stronger, faster and superior in every regard save one, and it's an unfair criticism to level, but it simply can't be as original. - Andy Chambers, on the evolution of Games Workshop games

Something along the lines of necromunda would get me very excited about this. Yes please PP.

What's the second "e" for? Extreme? I say this presuming the first still stands for Epic.

Yep. People have been speculating on certain characters going Epic Level 2/Double Epic/Super Saiyan for a while.

Will be interesting to see it actually happen, though.

Indeed.

40K already gives me enough giant shoulder pad sci-fi with Marines.

If you guys are right and it does turn out to be an expanding kinda deal that would be awesome. Being able to choose the size of game you want to play and still using the same minis and basic rules would be great.

Its a smart idea business wise too. People start with the board game, but then PP can tempt them into the larger games by simply showing that they only need a couple more units for the skirmish game. Then you only need a couple more units for the army level game. Much better than GW essentially coming at you with a several hundred dollar minimum buy in just to get started.

Whats my game?
Warmachine (Cygnar)
10/15mm mecha
Song of Blades & Heroes
Blackwater Gulch
X wing
Open to other games too

The name immediately made me think of a secret government agency. My guess is the game is a Men in Black type setting of high tech humans versus strange alien races. Would be neat to see less power armor and more slick three-piece suits toting around bizarre weaponry.

We don't know what it is yet. There will be plenty of time to be virulent.

I'm up for white armored guys and gals space church faction (Warzone's Brotherhood part 2?), they may even get updates from time to time.

Well, this is grand news for me. I was excited about Warpath from Mantic, but so disappointed when I discovered the game may really just be a WH40K clone...not only in feel, but also in looks.

PP has proven that they are a company that is willing to generate their own image, designs and style, and while it might not be to everyone liking, I have every confidence that a Sci Fi game from PP can have it's own feel and they have the resources to scale it up to big wargame sizes.

Bring it on PP, and don't let me down

The more I think about this, the more I hope it's in the IK world, but far in their future. I think it would be awesome to keep to the same world, but to jump to the future of it. See how the IK world turns out. That way they can keep a similar feel, yet keep the systems seperate.

I would heavily bet on it being exactly that. The IK universe has been well excepted. Not only would it be safe for PP to stick with whats working, but it saves a lot of time (and $$) on development when all they have to do is high tech the existing universe. They might change the names of the factions to help separate the game more from WM, but Id still bet on each of them being recognizable.

On that note, I wouldnt be shocked at it using the same rules or something very similar.

They DO have another universe, though. It could be more Monsterpocalypse universe. Who knows, the intro game could be a G.U.A.R.D. squad vs some sort of alien or Cthul based enemy.

Honestly I'd respect them more if they didn't take the short cut(and frankly, stereotypically boring and unimaginative) of just making it the future version of their established world.

From the sounds of it it's supposed to be a new setting and this is kind of the intro game to the setting. Warmachine started with just Iron Kingdoms RPG books (which was announced to be getting a revamp/rerelease). I don't think it will be Warmachine in space or Monsterpoc or anything like what they've done yet.

I also don't think it's a blood in the water thing. That just feeds into GWs "We Are Everything!" attitude that someone else couldn't do a Scifi game without it being copying them.
