Yay, 2 pages!

Working on the left "knee" now...

There is an attitude that not having an insanely optimized, one shot, six stage, omnidirectional, inevitable, mousetrap of an assassin list army somehow means that you have foolishly wasted your life building 500 points of pure, 24 karat, hand rolled, fine, cuban fail. That attitude has been shown, under laboratory conditions, to cause cancer of the fun gland.

Well, I didn't get anywhere close to as m,uch done as I wanted to... combine having to catch up with a couple days worth of DVR with taking a 2 hour lunch break with my buddies at Battlefoam (yep, name-droppin' [ish] like a mo-fo!) and with driving a stick shift after having knee surgery yesterday pretty much amounted to me NOT going to Roy's Train World to get the supplies I need to do my hydraulics. But let it not be said I did nothing...

This is the right knee (our left looking at the model) and the upper shin. A couple of angles here for ya. Keep in mind that there's no rivets yet, as that is pretty much the last step, and that there will be more hydraulics than just the 2 main "leg bone" hydros - waist to "upper" leg, foot to shin, heel, etc. Keep thinking fourth dimensionally...

Oh, and please forgive the poor quality of these shots, I have a really nice nikon, but a disadvantage of an SLR is that pesky little focal point. When I am up to driving around and doing shome legtimate shopping I'll go get me a macro lens. This project deserves one!

And while I was watching all my poor, abandoned DVR episodes I set to work on the foamcore shell for my first killtank. No details as of yet, other than basic hull shape, and of course the turret nor the track units have begun to be assembled.

Well, off to a drug-induced sleepy time. Now that I have one knee done, the other shouldn't take too long to slap together... then it is on to the feet, followed by the "upper" leg, and a pelvic area for thrusting. Then, of course, all those pesky detail hydralics and rivets and all that other time consuming crap. See you all on the other side of my dreams!

Automatically Appended Next Post:
....aaaaaand I wake up this morning to get back to wor and realize now, without my drug induced state of bad measuring, or whatever, that the leg I have bulit is at LEAST too small by half. Good start, but time to scale it up...

Updates as I go.

And here we go, some legitimate work I can actually use, lol.

Up first is the bare bones hip assembly. Obviously there is no armor plating or other fun yet. Once I hammer out the "thigh" piece I will start to plate the hip, and after the armor plates will come the hydraulics and cabling, lastly followed by rivetting.

Viewed from the front:

From the side:

And the rear:

I also have the knees done. Cabling, Hydraulics (once attached to the rest of the parts) and rivetting still to go.

Exciting to make some post-surgery progress!!

And finally, some work I can post and be proud of, and not realize the following morning is way way way too small, lol. Hips, pelvis, upper leg, knees done. Tomorrow will see the shins and the feet, God willing! Obviously, the rivet/cables/pistons/etc addendum is still applicable.

So here is a view of the legs unit from either side and the top:

And the torso just sitting on toip of the legs unit. Not attched, so that I will have free reign to do all the detail work down the road. Voila:

UPDATE TIME! It's a short one, but here ya go:

First up, the legs are done. I worry that the lower legs are too long, but then they haven't been fleshed out yet with pistons and (maybe) some armour plating, so we'll see. The left leg has not yet been attached yet (obviously) and the ankle joint is pinned but not glued, so I can build the base up a little and pose the leg to be stepping on and crushing... something.

And next we have the first foot. The ankle fits right inside of it, so the only added height is a couple of pieces of plasticard, maybe 4mm worth. We'll have all sorts of spikes and kicking gubbins on the toes, and all sorts of places to add on the aforementioned pistons and cables.

Hoping to completely finishe the basic structure of the entire legs unit tonight or tomorrow morning, then get started on my pistons and cabling.

So, I have had absolutely zero motivation to work on the megadread the last couple days. But that doesn't mean I haven't been working...

So, what the hell is this? Is that some cool ork terrain? It's pretty big...

From the side it's... even bigger. But what is it?

But wait, I think I get it... look what the ork is standing next to now. I think it's... yeah... it's a jet turbine intake. And it's HUGE!

You guessed it (I hope!), it's definitely a Bommer! i have decided yet if it's a standard bommer, or a Blasta Bommer yet... though I certainly love the idea of a Deff Arsenal airstrike. I also love the idea of transporting Stormboyz into battle. Damn sexirrific. Anyways, onto the build...

So here is an engine (there will be four) further along:

The foamcore sticking off the side is gthe beginnings of the wing mount onto the main fuselage.

Front view of the engine nacel. The only detail work I have done is on the interior blades, so that I didn't have to work on them around the housing. Other detailing will be a long time coming.

Yeah, I've seen his work over on Da Waaagh. It's fantastic, though not the inspiration for mine.

Me, I just read about it in Imperial Armour, wanted one, and slapped that together.

As a contrast from his work... I'll have a LOT less engines... 2 per wing, none planned for the tail, though I might add soem directional thrusters ala the fighta-bommer. Mine is obviously more angular than his, with his smooth line ribbing for the fuselage. A) I'm just not comfortable working with the rounded shapes and B) Foamcore being immensely cheaper than the thick card he is using, and foamcore doesn't lend itself well to curves.

If I make it a Blasta Bommer, it'll be mostly projectile weapons in the Deff Arsenal, where Suki looks to be going with a crapton of rokkits.

And a small update, the join for the wings to the fuselage. The engines will fit right into the rounded edge. Now off to work on the other engines...

6 foot underwater

Mega-dread is progressing nicely there, I wouldn't worry about the shin length, like you said the extra pistons, cables and assorted gubbinz will cover it, if indeed it even is too long.

Interesting start to the bomma too, looks like it'll be another big beast.
