I just finished watching the episode where they took several sports cars up to some snowy place (came in half way in the show) and did a race on a iced track... it was really funny. It was like watching adults playing bumper cars.

The [some former eastern blck country] SUV/Cross-Over where he made it seem better than a Bently and beat the Stig driving Supercar [Cheeting of course], but it looked like a fun vehicle

You guys mean a Skoda Yeti..... And the Stig was driving a Ferrari 308. Ya know, like Magnum PI used to drive......

I love the show,particularly the specials ( botswana and vietnam especially ) and the challenges.But all in all it is a great show and i continue to laugh at their antics ( scripted or not,i do not care ).

Love Top Gear... (UK version... accept no substitutes).

Favorite of my whole family is the regular show (as opposed to a special) where they were driving lorrey's (sp?) i.e. trucks around and each had to complete a series of challenges with something delecate in the back. Jeremy's trailer had some hay bales and a heat source at opposite ends... and ended up engulfed in flames.

A classic.

The "turn the cars into boats" episode was really funny too.

I thought they were both pretty darn good.

Jeremy had a Toyota truck with a 250 hp motor, Richard had a submarine made out of a VW micro-bus & Captain Slow had a convertible sail boat.

In the first one they built those boats, then sailed across a lake. In the second, they modified/rebuilt basically the same boats, and then tried to take on the English channel.

Granted... the micro-bus was *supposed* to float... but it pretty much sank on contact with the water, which makes it a sub in my book.

That's what makes it so fun to watch, haha.

As they've described themselves on at least one occasion: Ambitious, but rubbish.

True that. They are such a random group of people that really do try hard to win... but somehow always fail in the most funny of ways.

Top Gear is the best show ever made! They're not afraid of being politically incorrect to the point of pissing off governments and the entertainment value is just great. My favorites are the specials especially the Polar expedition.

The USA version doesn't work because they lack Clarkson and Co.'s chemistry and because its interrupted and shortened by commercial breaks. But the first few season or two of the Clarkson era Top Gear were pretty rough as well specifically before James May became a host.

Yea, without James May I don't think the show would have taken of like it did.

Going to throw a curve ball here (You Americans will appreciate the idiom) I prefer 5th Gear, Top Gear is more scripted than a soap.

Why do people see scripted as a bad thing? If it works it works!

Even though it is scripted it doesn't seem like it is when you watch the show. Plus most of the script is written by Jeremy Clarkson himself. So I see your point, but I don't think that really matters.

Top Gear is my favorite show too! I was watching the new US version of it (Definitely not as funny, but still informative) and they were testing the new Lancer Evo's. I haven't had my jaw drop like that for quite a while. They had one of the guys racing against 2 skiiers on one of the mountains at Mammoth. Literally racing in a car down a snowy mountain, like nothing. (Can you tell how bad I want one?)

I have to say nothing beats the UK Top Gear though. When I go to England this year, I'm going to hunt down the Stig.

It would have to be the one where they tried to put the reliant robin into space. But the hilux was pretty good.
